I just had the worst experience i've ever had while eating at Shanghai kitchen. I'm not sure who is running this establishment but having 2 people run absolutely everything from the tables to the bar is a terrible idea. Our waitress was so preoccupied answering phones and handling take out orders that we were completely ignored for virtually the entire dinner. Our mini dumplings (only 6) appetizer took 30 minutes to come out, and prior to that our waitress had forgotten what we ordered Then my chicken pad thai came out after an additional 25 minutes, while my girlfriends sesame chicken was 15 minutes after that. Even worse, we were never once asked how the food was and if we needed anything. It was to the point where our waters were never refilled, and when i looked around everyone else had empty cups. Also amusing was that they actually ran out of glasses, so I saw a few people with styrofoam cups. We had waited so long after our meal that we just went to the front, paid and left (no tip). Absolute worst experience i've ever had eating somewhere, and this review isn't even about the food at all. The management needs to SERIOUSLY rethink their customer service strategy because the few people they had there were were stretched too thin to do anything correctly. They need a dedicated bartender/someone to answer the phones, a few waitresses and then a bar back to clear the tables. Not investing in your business because you're cheap is...

This restaurant is among the top Chinese restaurants in Denver. The food is very genuine, tasty, and flavorful. The décor brings you back to old Shanghai. The atmosphere is none but classy and reminiscent. For special occasions, for family gatherings, or just for regular outings, you will not regret coming here.

Be sure to try their beef/fish in chili oil. You are in for a treat!

Updates (Jan 28, 2024):

The food is as good as my previous review after all these years. This restaurant has a lot of authentic dishes that you won’t be disappointed. If you are unfamiliar with them, ask for the Chinese menu or ask the wait staff to assist you. For starters, try their scallion pancakes. The pancakes are freshly made and very crispy and flavorful. Their hot and sour soup is perfectly balanced, and the portion is very generous. Also try their wanton in chili oil. This is a very traditional Chinese dish. If you like spicy food, you won’t be disappointed. The chili pepper fish is another great dish to try. It’s crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Overall, this dish is very well prepared.

I am a frequent customer here, and I have not being disappointed with any...

I’ve been going here for YEARS. Their roasted pork fried rice has got to be a favorite of mine. I also came here on Christmas Day with my family and while they were EXTREMELY busy, they were getting treated almost inhumanly rude by customers. It was unbelievable. Customers were getting angry that it was a long wait. Well, here’s some two cents... don’t go into the only local restaurant that’s open on CHRISTMAS NIGHT with large parties and no reservations and expect them to have room right away! Not to mention that because someone was very rude to one of their staff, she literally had a flown blown panic attack in front of the customers. It was heart breaking. I am disgusted by the way people expect someone to kiss their feet when they want it like their a princess or something. If you’re reading this and came in on Christmas night, you should be ashamed of yourself!!! I am so sorry to this wonderful staff and restaurant for the disgusting responses they received from our community on Christmas. You all have always been so kind to everyone and the food has always been my favorite. Bless your hearts for taking a beating and handling...

The Ultimate Guide to Denver’s Best Chinese Food (Part 2) 🍲 Pic 1 & 2: Zeo Ma Ma As Chinese cuisine gains popularity in Denver, more locals are moving beyond classics like orange chicken and beef with broccoli, embracing regional specialties like Shandong-style noodles. Zeo Ma Ma’s unassuming decor might make it easy to miss, but it’s a hidden gem. Their Taiwanese-inspired beef noodle soup, paired with Shandong noodles’ signature chewiness, is a soul-warming delight. Whether it’s a hearty breakfast or a post-work pick-me-up, one bowl will leave you energized. 🍝 Pic 3 & 4: The Bronze Empire This upscale hot pot spot rivals Haidilao with 8 broths (signature spicy, numbing spicy, herbal tonic, seafood, Thai tom yum, tomato collagen, original broth, and organic veggie), 16 dipping sauces, and 56 ingredients. Must-try meats include Kobe-style beef, Angus ribeye, premium lamb shoulder, and top-grade cuts. Their bouncy shrimp and fish pastes are standout—the shrimp paste’s snap feels like live shrimp dancing in your mouth. Pro tip: Try instant noodles in their signature spicy broth for an unforgettable upgrade. 🍛 Pic 5 & 6: Shanghai Kitchen "Wu Li Xiang" (meaning "home") serves nostalgic Shanghainese flavors: soup dumplings, scallion pancakes, stir-fried rice cakes, salted veggie noodle soup, plain noodles, and shrimp-pork wontons. Don’t miss their wine-marinated fish slices, sweet-and-sour ribs, braised pork belly, eel with sizzling oil, or pine nut fish fillet. Bonus: They deliver! 🍗 Pic 7-9: Hong Kong Barbecue TVB drama fans will feel transported to a Hong Kong cha chaan teng—from the decor to the roast meat counter. Their wontons feature delicate "swallow skin" wrappers stuffed with plump shrimp-pork filling, served with springy noodles in rich broth (substitute with rice noodles or pho). Each bite is pure nostalgia.
