This was a neat little surprise. I'm sharing a video of my favorite part of our experience at the diner. It was the staff getting along together. Everyone was respectful and encouraging to each other. They were joyful and ready to wow their customers. Where can you get Greek and all American burgers at the same place? Here! I had the Greek salad and they did not skimp on the fixings. The dressing had perfect amount of spices and portion. The burgers are reminiscent of my childhood visiting the local greasy spoon. The burger my mom had made me sad I didn't order one for myself. The crinkle fries were plump and fresh. There are two doors into the establishment. The door with "take out orders" over it should have been a hint, but I saw a sticker I thought that said use other door so I went in this one. The girl took my order and handed us our boxes of food. It wasn't until we walked to the bar that I realized we could have ordered in the dining room. There are a lot of stickers on the windows outside. I would suggest having "dining room" above one of the doors. Or, the cashier asking "is this dine in?" I reduced a star for atmosphere and service because of the bus boy sweeping up under our feet while we were eating. He got up in between my mom's and my bar stools with the broom. Innocent enough, very friend gentleman but still it was offputting and rude. There is also a foot bar you rest your feet on that he would clang against when he was further away that was aggravating. I would suggest a soft push broom so dust isn't flying up while diners are there and reducing the...
Read moreIf you have ever heard the expression, "Eat where the Locals Eat" then the Dixie Drive In is for you. Back in the days when people "cruised" the path was from the "Dixie" to the "Caravan" and back. It harkens back to a day when waitresses used to roller skate out to your car and attach a tray with your food to the window. Those days are no more, but the menu is essentially the same.
When I was young at ate there the first time, I asked for a menu and was told, "we have had the same food for 25 years, you don't need a menu".
The restaurant underwent some changes in management a few years back and they had tried to add new things to the menu. Saturday nights now offer seafood. It was okay but I much prefer their burgers and fries. The best meal there is the Dixie Cheese Half'n'Half (half onion rings and half fries). Sitting at the bar you feel a bit like you have stepped back a few years. They wait staff has short nicknames for everything so while you may order it one way, their short cuts may from time to time make you wonder what you ordered. Don't worry, it will be what you ordered. Good food, fast service, a...
Read moreSo happy the Dixie is open again. I remember coming to eat there over 40 years ago with my grandfather and that started it and I have been eating there ever since. The place hasn't changed and it truly is like stepping back in time when the world seemed friendlier.
Nostalgia aside I always look forward to getting a Dixie chilli cheeseburger half and half. Love the fresh onion rings and fresh cherry coke. Many other great menu options too. Never once had a bad meal there. Throughout childhood, teenage years, college years at Lander, dating, and adulthood the Dixie has always been there. I hope others have such fond memories of this place as I do. Wanting another dinner from there just writing this review. Forget the Carolina classic at Wendy's and come get the real Carolina classic experience the Dixie...
