This place is excellent. Every motorcycle trip we try and find a new BBQ joint that is on the route. This was one that I will return to. From someone who knows BBQ, and has been to alot of BBQ places, this food was amazing.
The Pros: I got the two meat platter with pulled pork and smoked sausage. The pulled pork was one of the best I have ever had. The smoked sausage was the best I have ever had. My buddy got ribs and the smoke ring was almost to the bone (no joke). I didnt try them but they looked great. I got mac and cheese and slaw as my side. Mac and cheese was amazing slaw was good. Meat was moist with good smoke flavor.
Service was great. They got us a pitcher of sweet tea so we didnt even need to leave the table for the re fills. The gave us a tour and showed us the smoker. The staff was some of the nicest people I have met. They have an air conditioned room where ya sit and it was nice to cool off during the bike trip.
The Cons: This place is hard to find. It is behind a strip mall and there is a small sign to show you the small dirt road you need to take to get behind the buildings. I like it though because the more people that find this place the busier its gunna be (And I plan on going back). We had to ask a guy where the address was and he was about 80yrs old and lived in Greenwood his whole life. When we told him where we were goin he said we picked the right spot (lifer's never lie). If owned it I would def. get a bigger sign.
They have five different bbq sauces. I am not much on sauces but I always like to try what the place has got and maybe use it on half my plate.... All five are to die for. They had mustard sauce, vinegar, two Ketchup based and a fry sauce. Perfect heat on the hot ones and good sweet on the sweet ones. This isnt even a con just made my decision hard.
Wish they had beer.
It is a good 5 hours from my house but I think this place is worth the trip. I will...
Read moreIf you are looking for great BBQ, then you need to find the Carolina Barbecue Shack. It is hidden behind the University Grill. Take the road beside M&M Tire and find the sign. Take a right and drive on back to the building.
They offer pulled pork, hash, beef brisket, and smoked turkey. You will want to add a baked Potato and barbecue beans to that plate with a roll. They have a Shack Sauce, which is a ranch/sour cream based sauce with a hint of garlic that is so good you could probably use it to eat a rock. It tastes great on everything.
You will be hard pressed to decide which BBQ sauce to go with, their signature Carolina Barbecue Shack Barbecue sauce or their Carolina Gold sauce, which is a mustard based sauce. They have lots of sides to choose from but the baked potato with the Shack Sauce and barbecue beans are my favorite. Don't want to cook supper, go by and get a Family pack.
When they first opened there were picnic tables outside. Then they added an awning for the tables to be under. Over the last couple of years they built a nice building with beautiful tables, air conditioning, and a...
Read moreI have been going to Carolina BBQ in Greenwood for many, many years and am a regular holiday face. I'm a work'n class dog. To date the food and service has been good but the cheapness of what I just experienced sickened me. Was there a week before last and paid by check. No problem. -Don't take security lightly. Today I find I'm to be charged an extra $1.30 for using a check/debit. What!? I have to pay you in order to pay you!?! When I asked why this was I was informed everyone else is and its for handling. What!?!? If I would have paid by cash you would have had to go to the register another two to three times spending 3 times longer to end the transaction. Do I get a bonus for my extra wait time? What about the customers I have brought there. (One just last week.) Do I get a per customer bonus!?! In a world gone crazy to turn that next dollar I'm disgusted that you are willing to nickle and dime a used to be faithful, long term customer. Seems its only good business to get long term customers to return, not drive...
