Finally got around to trying this local pizza place, after seeing the crowds there every weekend in the summer. The interior is large, if a bit bare bones (concrete floor, wood tables, nothing fancy) but they also have a ton of art on the walls (for sale) by what I believe are probably local artists. So that was interesting. One smallish tv in the "bar" area (they serve wine and beer). We came when it was snowing out so we got seated right away since the place was pretty much empty. We started with breadsticks (6) which came with a choice of 2 dipping sauces. We got nacho cheese (typical, from the jar kind of stuff) and a creamy garlic Parmesan concoction that, while it had sort of a strange texture to it, was really good when you dipped the hot bread in to it! Very generous portion of dipping sauce, and the sticks were good, though they were pretty typical for ones you might find in the bakery section of a grocery store. Without the sauce they were nothing spectacular (fresh and warm, with the sauce though....yum!). At the waiters suggestion, we tried a half and half pizza, half of two of their specialty pies. They seemed to have a ton of choices for the make your own pizza stuff. Lots of different cheese choices, sauce selection was impressive, as were the different toppings to choose from. I was sad they didn't have a "burger sauce" option (which is kind of like thousand island, or McD's secret sauce), which I love as a hamburger pizza. We settled on half a Maui pie (pineapple, bacon, onions, green peppers) and half of a Cheese Louise (like 5 different types of cheese, plus onion and bacon). Both were quite tasty and toppings are generously applied! Fantastic! Lots of cheese on both, lots of bacon on both. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be a thin crust pizza, or they just make their crust very thin, but that is what we are calling it.....thin crust pizza. While I enjoy thin crust on an appetizer type pizza, I am not really a fan of it for a dinner choice. That's really why I didn't give it 5 stars. To be honest, even with all the toppings and cheese it was a bit.....disappointing, flavor wise. Other than the crust, I can't pinpoint why we found it just "good" not great. We're glad we finally tried it, and I do love the different choices in cheese and topping selections, but I can't see making a trip there again, not when there are better options (Brozzini's comes to mind) for pizza with a thinner crust. It kind of reminded me of the pizzas my kids used to make at home on "make your own pizza" nights. Good, but not spectacular. Service was very good, quick soda refills (always a plus lol), waiter was helpful when trying to decide what to try, and prices...
Read moreWent to dinner at Jockamos in downtown Greenwood Saturday. With the exception of the bus boy keeping up on drinks and generally checking on us during our evening, service was very slow. Our server brings out our appetizers but give us no napkins or silverware. Thank goodness it was finger foods! A female employee brings out our pizza, still no napkins, no silverware, and no spatula to serve, which we could have grabbed with our hands if the damn pizzas had been cut! We didn't notice the pizza wasn't cut until after we told her we needed napkins and utensils. She returns with napkins, we tell her the pizza isn't cut. I said to her can you bring us something to cut it with or take it back to get it cut. She doesn't say anything but walks away. We are left staring at our food, not knowing what she is doing. Our waiter comes over after the girl has been gone 2-3 minutes, and we tell him what we said to the girl. He apologizes, said he would be back. He passes the girl as she's bringing spatulas, which we use to cut our pizza as best as we can. A manager come to our table about this time, asking if there is an issue. We explain everything to him, and this is when our experience went from bad to horrible due to his condescending attitude. He immediately says to us "Well, we can't bring pizza cutters to the table," to which I replied I asked for a cutter or for it to be taken back, and he shrugged. He talked over us as we replied, told us we really should have told our waiter the issue first instead of the girl since she has other duties. We told him twice the waiter was at other tables across the restaurant and the girl was near us, but he said again we needed to tell the waiter - basically putting blame for our experience on us! He also told us they usually run out of silverware and spatulas during the night, not apologizing for us not getting these before our food. As my husband told him, if you always run out often you need to order more! If he hadn't made this comment about they often running out of silverware and spatulas I would have thought this was just a bad night, but from that I think it is their acceptable norm. The manager was arrogant told us, kinda like hey, sorry, but we're Jockamos and we're cool so deal with it. He took one of our pizzas off, and that was appreciated, but his attitude still needs to be noted and dealt with. I thought it would be nice to go there since we haven't in a few years and the pizza is good, but the taste of the food isn't worth the arrogance and disregard for...
Read moreOne of my favorite places to eat in the Indy area. I first was introduced to Jockamo a few years ago in Irvington. Now that I live in Greenwood I am happy there is one down here as I can get my fill whenever I want.
The service is always great and the food is always excellent. It was refreshing to see the menu had changed and they can now do half and half pizzas on the larges. For some reason I always go have pizza with people who don't like the same as I do, so being able to do two different pizzas on one is fantastic. They do such an excellent job keeping toppings on your own side too.
The breadsticks with creamy garlic parmesan is to die for. So delicious...it's the only sauce we ever pick and we normally get the 6 where you get two sauces. It's seriously that good!
I feel that the prices are in line with other specialty local delicious pizza joints. I never compare a place like this to some chain like pizza hut. NOT the same....Jockamo is SOOOOOOOO much better.
This location also has outdoor seating if you would prefer to sit outside on a nice day. The dinning room is very open and has tons of tables to accommodate large groups and the busy lunch & dinner rush. They do serve local beer if that is you thing. Sun King seems to be their top choice as it's advertised everywhere around the bar.
Love this place, they make me happy, and honestly how can you not love a place that uses an ape as part...
