I went with a friend today for afternoon tea and we had a delightful experience! The Tea Room is operated in what used to be a home and it still has a lot of the character of the original residence. We each had the L.S. Ayres velvet chicken soup and the Duchess Tea. The soup was as delicious as I remembered. The sandwiches were very fresh and tasty and we had a nice sampling of sweets. My favorite was the teacake/pettifor. We selected almond shortbread and Earl grey for our tea selections and both were absolutely delicious. The service was excellent and they accommodated us by serving us immediately when we arrived a half hour early. There is a gift shop area in what would have been the foyer of the home with some delightful tea-related items. The owner was on site and we had pleasant conversation with her. It is clear this tea room is a labor of love. If I were critiquing, I am accustomed to scones being served with clotted cream and jam and this was missing and disappointing for us. I would have also preferred sugar cubes to packets of sweetener for our tea. The pricing is very reasonable for $21 for the full afternoon tea. The tea room is very quaint with many colorful rooms and the experience was simply delightful! This is little gem my friend and I were happy to have...
Read moreWent here for duchess tea for a friend's birthday (21 dollars plus tip.)
The good, a great tea selection.
The bad.
Our party was too big for the room we were put in. They should have acknowledged the size limit of the room instead of cramming everyone who could fit into it. The room was at least 10 degrees warmer than the hall.
Our plates were inconsistent. I was missing at least 2 desserts and so was the person to my right. There were several other people missing things as well.
The vegan in our group was served two desserts with dairy in them.
My scone was pretty clearly not made fresh that morning. The lunch, (a half or quarter salad sandwich, a Small cucumber sandwich, and some ham, apricot ham and a really small roll) was fine. The apricot jam, ham, and roll was delicious, but tiny. The cucumber sandwich was probably actually half a sandwich.
The salads served with the veggie and vegan meals were seemingly served instead of desserts and without silverware.
The staff didn't notice we were missing napkins for several minutes, after we had already raided the storage area adjacent to our room for three to share among the table.
Would i go back? Sure, to buy the loose leaf teas, sure,. if i can't find similar teas elsewhere. Which i hope i can find...
Read moreVery cute place with nice decor. Four of us went there for a late lunch. There was only one waitress working and she seemed stressed and was rather rude. I ordered a cup of tea and later asked for more hot water which she brought. My friend ordered a pot of tea and the other two ordered cups of tea. The waitress said they could share the first woman’s pot since they were all drinking the same thing. The pot was refilled once or twice with hot water but the same bag was used for all refills. The waitress explained that’s the way they do that but it seemed unfair because when I asked for more hot water she brought another tea bag for me. Their tea eventually was pretty weak. The waitress didn’t seem very accommodating when they complained. She offered to bring another tea bag but we were done at that point. I ordered the soup and salad duet. I thought the soup would be a bowl size but it was a cup and the salad was little more than greens and cranberries drowning in dressing. The scone was tiny and not that flavorful. No butter or spread was offered with the scone so it was pretty dry. Overall it was a big disappointment for a $22 lunch. My friends were not impressed with food, the service and especially the tea. I would probably not...
