I have tried this restaurant twice, and I won't ever do that again. The first time I dined in. I ordered a filet and it was pretty fatty, but still delicious. Our server was also great.
Last night, I ordered to go: crab cake dinner and the blackened shrimp. I used to manage a high end, fine dining restaurant for many years and our food was quality. Our prices were just a bit more expensive than J Henry's. The only good thing about our dinner last night was the squash casserole, baked potato, and the blackened shrimp. The crab cakes ($27) were mushy, the crab was brown, and it had literally no flavor. Definitely not worth $27, let alone $5. But that wasn't the worst part.
The worst part was the woman taking payment outside and delivering the food. I pulled into a designated spot right next to a car in which she was helping. She turned around and saw us. Two more cars pull into the designated spots and after she finished with the current car, she immediately went to one of the new cars who parked after me (and she was well aware of this). She then goes inside to get that cars food, without even saying anything to me or the other car. After she delivered the food, she went to the second car that parked after me. Did the same thing, and didn't say two words to me. After that car was taken care of, she walks back towards the restaurant door and finally says "have you been helped". Mind you, I'm thinking "you're the only person working out here, so you know I haven't been helped." I say "no I haven't". She doesn't reply and simply walks back inside. Perhaps my food would've been warm if she tended to me first, but who knows. So my boyfriend just went inside to get the order.
If I wasn't in the restaurant biz for 15 years, I probably wouldn't have thought twice about it (aside from her having zero desire to take care of me). Normally, I would've given a 30% tip because I know the servers miss out on tips when people order to go. I'm not sure what my boyfriend tipped, aside from the 10% they add, but hopefully it was $0.
She could've been busy, which I get, but assisting cars that came after me first - coupled with the fact that she never even asked what my order number was or even said something like "I'll be right with you", sealed the deal on my patronage never happening again. I get food isn't as great when you get to go, so I was willing to try the restaurant one last time, and just order something different. I gave 3 stars because the server on my first time visiting was great and the food is simply okay (although I think the prices for the quality do not align). If I had to base the stars solely on this experience, I...
Read moreI want to begin by saying that I have always enjoyed the food at J. Henry’s. The meals are consistently good, and I’ve never had an issue with the staff or service. For years, this has been one of my go-to spots in Griffin.
That said, my recent interaction with the owner has completely changed my perspective. I reached out with the intention of offering something positive: a complimentary restaurant feature on my TikTok channel, which has over 300,000 followers. For context, I’ve already showcased around 30 restaurants in this region. The results have spoken for themselves—restaurants reporting doubled profits for weeks after their video release, lines out the door, and in some cases, running out of food due to the overwhelming response. Several owners have even asked me to visit their other locations, including those out of state, because of the remarkable impact.
Out of respect, I called J. Henry’s owner first, simply to ask permission before walking in with a camera. I wasn’t asking for a free meal or special treatment—I intended to pay for my food. I just wanted to give the restaurant a positive spotlight.
Instead of any appreciation, I was met with arrogance. The owner interrupted before I could even finish explaining, telling me he didn’t need the advertising, didn’t need me, and boasting about being in business for over 20 years. The tone was pompous, dismissive, and downright rude.
Hospitality is more than the food on the table—it’s about attitude, respect, and how people are treated. After seeing his response, it now makes sense why J. Henry’s holds a 4.4 rating on Google rather than higher. That type of arrogance at the top always trickles down, shaping the culture, the staff, and the guest experience.
The sad truth is that opportunities don’t come along every day. When someone reaches out to bless your business without asking for anything in return, the wise response is gratitude, not condescension. Owners who think they no longer need help often discover the opposite to be true.
I am deeply disappointed. J. Henry’s was once a restaurant I recommended to friends, family, and visitors without hesitation. After this experience, I have no intention of recommending it to anyone in the future, nor do I plan to return myself. The food may be good, but the arrogance at the top overshadows...

After the dining experience we had tonight. I am revising my 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 review to 🌟.
We were served the wrong food (ordered cinnamon pork chops with apples but just got a pork chop) and when we told the server (the one in the skin tone tights) she copped an attitude and told us how busy she was and that she would have caught it but since she is also delivering to go food another person who was not aware of our order did not catch it. It was very rude of her to, say multiple times how busy she and all the staff including the chef/manager who felt it was acceptable to bring out the missing part of our meal out to us after our plates and silverware had been cleared.
The chef/night manager also mentioned how busy he was .... He apparently was too busy to come out a second time when we questioned the bill being full price when the food was not served as advertised in specials.
I have always felt like I Henry's was an upscale place and a fun place to eat. Tonight it seemed that we dealt with people wearing multiple hats (overloaded to the point that they could not do their job properly) and a very tackily dressed I'll tempered server.
Overworked employees make mistakes at the customers' expense and make people think,of dining elsewhere. We have been, many times in the past and have had good food and service. I wonder if more staff should be hired to deal with the excessive to go orders our server mentioned.
We asked for a refill but never got one as well.
We gave a tip, even though the server was quite rude on at least 3 occasions.
Not a good place for evening dining...
