I recently sent my son to this establishment because I've had great service there before. My son was unfortunate and did not get the same service. A waitress from Ukraine that works there treated my son with the utmost disrespect. It's really sad when you send someone to an establishment that you enjoyed and they come out with a different experience . The sad thing is I have sent a lot of people to the sloop because I enjoyed it so much I wanted everyone else to experience it. My son was raised to be a Southern gentleman so I don't know what this waitress problem was with him but she doesn't need to be working with the public. I've also heard that this is not the only bad review that she has gotten. She has been rude to other customers. Some of the people that I sent there have said the same thing about her. She is rude. My son said he was humiliated by this woman. My son is 35 years old and she asked him if he needed a sippy cup. And then proceeded to slam the tray down on the table and spilled water everywhere all over people that was sitting at the table. Totally unprofessional.Maybe they should teach her the proper American rules before she works in such an establishment. Most of the waitresses that I've experienced in Alabama would not treat people the way she treated my son. And the way she spoke to him was absolutely uncalled for. And very unprofessional. I won't be back. And the people that I have told about this place I will let them know what happened. Nobody wants to see this in a restaurant while they're eating and nobody wants to watch a waitress go off on a customer the way she did. Someone that was sitting with my son told him that they do not want anyone but locals (my son is from Mobile)in this restaurant. I will make sure that word gets out to people who spend a lot of money in Gulf shores. The locals from Gulf shores are not the only ones that keep Gulf shores running and...
Read moreThis fairly new place that's goten a lot of buzz. Formerly Bywater Bistro under the bridge by the ICW on the south side just down from Acme Oyster House. They have the same owner of So. Foley Cheesesteak and yes they serve cheesesteaks here. This eclectic addition to Gulf Shores eateries has become a best kept secret on the Gulf. Not a secret for us because we live near by we are happy local regulars.
This is not your local seafood destination so when you're ready to take a shrimp break just drop in for Philly egg rolls, tacos and tamales, nice salads (antipasto is excellent), spicy sausage and peppers, legit chicken wings, homemade creations like the Cajun shrimp, andouille and taco quesadillas, baked stuffed mushrooms, shrimp pasta, chicken sandwich or burgers and some nice desserts and you can still get tasty fresh shrimp in tacos or in a sizzling skillet. The Philly cheesestakes are a standout for me because I lived in Philadelphia (also met my sweetheart there 41+ years ago) and we frequented quite a few of the areas most famous cheesestake joints as well as some more infamous ones as well. The owner is also a former Philadelphian and he has done a really great job of bring Philly to Alabama.
While the inside is a cool sailboat motif (my honey & I are longtime sailor's) there's also a nice outdoor area as well and there's plenty of oit front and adjacent parking. They've also got eight large screen TV's all around the entire room with sports of all kinds.
They're normorally open Sat-Thurs11am-12am Fridays 'til 2am bit currently, thanks to Covid the hours are shortened.
Bottom line: The sloop has strong drinks, friendly folks, cozy locals atmosphere and great food, what else do you...

This place was the standout meal for this vacation. It's a local bar for certain, and you can tell that everyone working there has been part of the team that makes this place amazing for a while.
It has a vibe that makes you feel welcome, relaxed, and comfortable. The service was on point for a little place that was filled up with folks.
The menu is some typical bar fare with serious care put into elevating that to comfort food that makes you want more.
We had Buffalo wings, an Antipasto salad, the chili cheese fries, and a plate of the cheesesteak egg rolls. Let me hit the high points for you. The lemon-garlic balsamic vinegarette for the salad was unique and complimented it perfectly. That along with the herb ranch and the buffalo sauce we tried are all made in house. The chili wasn't runny on the fries and it was held together with the cheese sauce. Chili itself was well seasoned and made me want to try the Sloop Dog, but I left stuffed and couldn't have eaten more.
The standout was the cheesesteak egg rolls. They come with pickled carrots and pickled red onions, drizzled in a sweet mustard that brings the whole dish together. I get the feeling that the cheesesteak sandwiches here are just as good.
I loved the food so much, I bought a round for the kitchen in appreciation for when they close up. Which is something I recommend for anyone who loves their meal. Show the kitchen the love they showed your food.
If you are in Gulf Shores, this place is worth a trip. It makes you want to have it in your...
