My husband and I got The breakfast of Denver Omelets and they were delicious! He ordered toast with his and it came with sliced potatoes. I ordered a biscuit, it was huge and very good, but didn't realize I would be charged 75 more cents. That wasn't a problem with me but it might be to someone else. Neither one of us finished our potatoes, they seemed like they had been overcooked by reheating. The sweet tea was good too. We had to wait 10 minutes or so to be seated. I'm not sure what the time was but it was around 10 am on a Sunday. While we were eating, more people came in, being seated after a small wait. Four people were waiting on the chairs provided for that when another couple and a single man (I don't know if more were with him) came in and were waiting when the waiter came by the front where they were standing and told them breakfast was only going to be served for about 10 more minutes and he didn't know if he could get to them. Both the couple and the man left. I don't think my rating would have been half as high had I been one of them. We will certainly try eating there again in a future visit to Gulf Shores. The diner is located in a strip mall and was very interestingly decorated. You ordered off the large chalk board on the wall.

(9-12-23) This morning was my first time to The Ugly Diner. First tip, if school is in session, wait until after 8 AM for traffic to thin out. I ordered the Diner Plate, with a biscuit and a small side of gravy. The Diner Plate consists of ham, sausage, bacon, fried potatoes and two eggs cooked to order. Service was fast, friendly and efficient! In a very short time, I was served a platter loaded with a breakfast feast! I was hungry. The fried potatoes were like my Mom used to make. Very tasty! I started in on the meat by having a slice of juicy bacon. Then, I tried the sausage, which was seasoned just like down on the farm. I dipped the sausage into my fried egg yolks. Oh man!!! I dipped some taters in the egg yolk too. Then I tried the ham, which was exceptionally tasty. There was lots of ham, and I ate bites with the fried potatoes. After I ate the eggs, I had room to put the bottom half of huge the biscuit on the plate, and smother it in sausage gravy. Talk about good! For dessert, I put grape jelly on the top half of my huge biscuit. It was all I could do to eat all of this delicious breakfast! I highly recommend The Ugly Diner!

First of all we loved the sign at the entrance! We are from Missouri. (South of STL area) We have been in the area for about 8 days , leaving tomorrow. This was the first time we went somewhere that I've been 100% satisfied with my meal. This is the first place we went that wasn't wall to wall seafood. It was so nice to have home style food. I had a hard time making a choice because I wanted several things. I chose the open faced beef with green beans. The green beans were amazing , it was all amazing. My son said the cheeseburger was amazing. My husband got a Gyro... whatever that is...idk I didn't even ask him what he thought because...who orders a gyro. Hahaha. We ended our meal with strawberry bread pudding. It was huge. And also amazing. Sorry for the excessive use of the word "amazing" . Five stars. Already recommended to the family back home. (They frequent the gulf shores area too)

My daughter and I tried THREE other restaurants in March starting at 5pm. One had a two hour wait, another one hour, and the last 30 minutes. I happened upon The Diner and they were able to seat us immediately with very prompt service. The server, while not personable, was polite, helpful, and very quick. The menu was easy; offering selections without an overwhelming amount and the prices were fair. I ordered the steak and shrimp boil (I think is what it's called) and it was fantastic. My five year had their chicken strips and fries (of course) and they were great. Our server also went ahead and ordered hers before mine so it could cool and she could eat. Overall, fair price, decent portion size, excellent taste, and FAST!!! even my five year old said, "mom that eat was a really fast eat."

The old Diner was one of our favorite restaurants in Gulf Shores for excellent food at a very reasonable price. We visited the new "ugly Diner" location yesterday. The dining room is a lot smaller but tables were either spaced 6ft apart or divided by plexiglass. A full house is about 20-25 people. The food, still an exception value, was delicious. I ordered a BLT which had bacon perfectly cooked and fresh lettuce and tomato (best BLT in Gulf Shores). My wife ordered the Rueben which, as always, was exceptional (also, probably the best in Gulf Shores). The fries were cooked to just the right state of crunchy outside and soft inside. Steve has done a wonderful job creating this restaurant. The man is a blessing to Gulf Shores. We will be back often.
