FORT MORGAN SUPPER CLUB dined royally at THE DINER in Gulf Shores on July 19, 2016. It is conveniently located diagonally across from Tacky Jacks in Gulf Shores, has adequate off street parking, and no steps. Since they take reservations, the hostess seated us immediately. The banquet room was quiet and accomodated about 60 people. The other half of the restaurant is mainly comfortable booths for four. We were all pleasantly surprised at the variety and affordability of the selections. Photos with individual member comments are available for all items served on FORT MORGAN SUPPER CLUB Facebook page. Our server, Vince Brown ,was most knowledgable , efficient, and eager to please. Appetizers vary daily to assure maximum freshness. We had Ahi Tuna Shasimi with wasabi sauce, crab cakes loaded with fresh crab, not fillers, and BBQ Shrimp with skin on mashed potatoes. Any or all of these could easily be a meal unto itself. The entrees included black and bleu burgers $9, open face prime rib roast beef sandwich $10, chopped steak with onions and gravy $9, two large fried pork chops $10, shrimp and grits $13, fried shrimp $12, mahi steak $18, 8 ounce filet mignon $20, 14 ounce ribeye $21, and many other very affordable sandwiches, pasta and fish dishes. Since I knew that the owner, Steve Nailor, had been head chef at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, I had to have the hand cut ANGUS ribeye which was better than even I imagined....but others said the filet wins the GRAND PRIZE. He puts a homemade rub on, then cooks over an open fire grille. The sandwiches come with a bag of chips, and you can trade up to fries or onion rings for a small upcharge. The entrees include a baked potato and another side, or salad in a large COLD bowl. The dressings are homemade and wonderful. Tonight's desserts were key lime pie, coconut cake, Chocolate sin, buttermilk pie, and creme brulee. WE HAD THEM ALL. They are all homemade on site and each member had a different favorite. I loved the coconut cake. You MUST look at the photos. A mile high, and infused with coconut and juice throughout. The best I have ever had. If you are looking for the fanciest white tablecloth restaurant in town, overlooking the ocean....this is not it. If you are looking for a clean restaurant with friendly staff who want you to come back often, great food and variety at affordable prices at lunch and dinner, you have arrived. Did I mention the grill and bar are open until midnight? All sixteen of us were duly impressed, and have a new favorite in our top five. I cannot wait to see someone eat the 16 ounce Steve's...
Read moreJust left The Diner at 2420 E. 2nd St across from Tacky Jacks. The reason I mention this is I read other reviews (poor) and manager/owner had the nerve to claim his complaint must be about another establishment. Ordered 2 coffees at 2.00 each (the worst coffee I have ever had) bitter and not flavorful. My order was the Black and Blue burger I ordered it medium rare and asked to sub chips for onion rings my husband sub was fries. I think I said accidentally sub fries for onion rings but I said onion rings at least two times. When the order was brought out I saw the fries and did not mention it, .a little bit later my husband noticed "Hey didn't you want onion rings? I said yes. So I told server who I think was manager/owner and he actually argued with us and protested I did not order onion rings and offered "proof" by showing us what he had put in the order for, all that proves is he did not put my order in right. Had onion rings been put on my order I assume I would have received onion rings!! So, my conclusion is the only case in which this place may admit to a mistake is if my order had onion rings on it already and yet I received french fries. The subsitute cost would have been 1.50 but a regular order of onion rings is 4.00. So i was going to get onion rings and he made certain to state "It will be $4.00 ! We said nevermind. I have worked in food service previously and even in cases where it was CLEARLY the customers mistake you without charge and without question fix your customers order no charge. What a cheap place because I got fries already he wanted to charge the full price for onion rings not the subsitute cost. Will never go back, and he is lucky we did not ask for a full meal refund I ordered my burger meduim rare and I took a picture of bright red ground meat. What a joke! I read all owner responses never once does he admit to a error. UNBELIEVABLE YOU ACTUALLY TOLD A CUSTOMER DONT THINK YOU WERE AT OUR DINER AND ASKED HIM TO CORRECT THE ERROR AND EDIT THE NEGATIVE REVIEW. I HAVE BEEN AT SUNLINER DINER AND GULF SHORES DINER, NO WAY TO MISTAKEN THEM FROM EACH OTHER: One The Gulf Shores Diner is small and in a strip mall of stores not free standing. The Sunliner Diner is near the beach And NOTHING like it I AM SHOWING SUNLINER DINER HOW MANY TIMES YOU HAVE ATTEMPED TO BLAME THEM RATHER THAN TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR...
Read moreThis place is amazing! Rarely do I ever write a review but the food was outstanding and the people were so friendly! We went back a few times during our stay because it was so darn good! The biscuits are flaky and some of the best we have ever had, fried potatoes were perfectly seasoned and cooked and the omelette was fluffy and so cheesy! Everything here is home made, notably from scratch and will knock your socks off! The Ruben was the best we had ever had and the burgers were huge and so yummy! We also had key lime pie, just wow!!!!! There was zested lime in the pie and it was soooo good! Did I mention the wait staff…..so friendly and helpful! Our waitress, (so sorry that I did not get her name but she was from NY, she was wonderful and a hoot)! The chef came out several times and visited with people….he was no joke, he was in his chef coat and is an amazing chef! The food is simple but so very good!!!! Just go, you will not regret it! The reason you see multiple reviews say we went back several times is because once you eat here and then try another place, you will be disappointed and need to return! We grabbed a coffee cup also that says the Ugly Diner, super cute and the coffee was pretty good as well and I will say I’m pretty picky about coffee! YUM!!!!! Also...
