as a 30 year resident of Gulfport, I was excited to hear that O'Maddys had reopened from the Hurricanes (Helene and Milton). we are unable to get permits to fix our houses but hey... the restaurants are opening...???
the place looks barely put together with temporary support beams (that look super sketch!), open walls (from the initial gutting) and signs of rust in the outlets below 3 feet. but it is open!
we took our seats, ordered food and drinks - all of that was to the standard O'Maddy's is known for. no complaints.
THEN... it started to rain. One of those Florida torrential down pours. Water started pouring through the ceiling... not a little leak or drip. POURING. We were fearful that the roof was going to collapse so we left - fast.
It was good to see O'Maddys open as a sign that life might be coming back to our city but - no. I'm not sure how this building has been inspected and deemed safe to occupy. We hope that no one is injured in the race to return to normal.
Please close and do the work to make this spot structurally safe... to the same standards that all the Gulfport homeowners are being held to. I'll update my review and rating when that happens.
UPDATE in response to owner reply: WOW owner! Calling my review "a distasteful review" and calling me "unkind and wrong" - I can understand you may feel attacked but my review is fair and accurate. As a 30-year resident - I care deeply about this community. I have been a part of this community far longer than you or your business. Attempting to shame me for reporting the facts does nothing to change the reality of the current condition of your restaurant. Using a loophole of working under an existing permit does not make your decision to open right or safe. Until such time as your building is safe, we will take our friends and family elsewhere. If your disregard for community persists, we will be okay to never return again. Great food in Gulfport is not unique to your...
Read moreI will love to take this time to rate the service at this unpleasant restaurant. I visited this location on St. Patrick’s Day 3/17/24 and the waitress was very rude & racism was at an all time high. The communication between the bar attendant and seating host was very unorganized. First the bartender stated you can sit yourself and handed me some menu’s then the host comes out and states it’s a 45min wait and demand me to leave after my party placed an order with one of the other host that actually came to our table to take our order. After that the owner daughter who’s actually a waitress there came to my table with the rudest attitude stating she will cancel our order and make us leave because she felt like we didn’t wait to be seated. The police was called and we didn’t receive our food after we started to voice our concerns. I will never recommend this restaurant to any one. I will never spend another one of my tax dollars at this establishment after attending the St. Patrick’s gathering 3/17/24. I have been a customer at this restaurant since “2017”. The owner & his manager was one sided and didn’t care to hear the customers concerns. As an African American I felt that we wasn’t welcome to the restaurant like others and that was a disappointment. We was treat so poorly. I rate the over experience as a -0. It’s was a waste of my time and money I spend at the bar before being seated. Now I know that African Americans aren’t accepted & I will...
Read moreDefinitely the place to be in Gulfport, O'Maddy's Bar & Grille was packed on a Thursday evening. Live music by a so-so band who did not know all of the lyrics to "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" (just repeated the last stanza 3 times) made conversation a challenge. Enjoyed the slightly higher than normal seating and tables with the beach vibe. A little too warm for outdoor dining in late July, but those fans helped. Pretty view over the marina and across the bay.
Ordered Grouper nuggets - absolutely delicious! It's been a long time since I've had Grouper, and I had forgotten how good it is! Breading was crisp, light and allowed the Grouper to shine. I ordered Donna's Shrimp Wrap (grilled - it comes with shrimp grilled, fried or blackened) with coleslaw and my companion ordered the Reuben and fries. Out of marbled eye, he had it on Texas toast. He raved about his choice - a generous portion of corned beef and very tasty. Said it was okay on the toast. The shrimp in my wrap was not very warm, tasted a little undercooked and had no seasoning to it. Grilled, to me, does not mean bland. It was served in a soft flour tortilla with lettuce and tomato, which were warm and the opposite of my expectations - nicely grilled hot shrimp wrapped in crisp cold lettuce and tomato. Would have been the perfect bite! The coleslaw was in a celery seed dressing that I...
