All hail the sesame seed bun! It's been my humble opinion that the seeded bun is an integral part of a good burger, and Marty's has that - and more - going for it.
I've heard comparisons between Marty's patties and those of Five Guys, and I can see why. They're fresh rather than frozen, and they're thin enough to approximate a smashed burger with those occasional bits of char while still maintaining enough heft that you can taste the beef. Their build-your-own burger menus are also similar, with plenty of free toppings to choose from. But I would argue that Marty's offers a fuller range of toppings from diverse cheese options to more premium ones like fried eggs, bacon, and avocado. I tried two of their signature burgers, and while the Swiss mushroom dijon was a hit with my husband (he pointed out the visible mustard seeds in the dijon sauce), the bacon avocado was the clear winner in my book. It not only had bacon that was texturally perfect (crispy and densely packed atop the patty), but also picture-ready slices of avocado.
For that to come out of a fast food restaurant kitchen within a matter of minutes? Color me impressed.
The banana pudding is dynamite. I'm usually neither a fan of banana nor puddings because those things combined just sound like mush. But here, the pudding is more of a whipped, airy texture, and I believe it when the lid says 'made fresh' because there were chunks of banana nestled in every bite. I admit it might not be much to look at, but I was hooked after a single spoonful (I'm actually greedily scraping the bottom of the container as I type this review).
The restaurant has a diminutive dining space (I counted four two-tops at most), but it feels super cozy and casual. I took my food to go and found nothing had deteriorated - in flavor, temperature, or texture - during my drive home because everything is well packaged. There's paid street parking available, but this area of Hackensack is pretty dense so you might have to circle around for a bit before...
Read moreThe hamburger is one of the world’s most popular foods, with nearly 50 billion served up annually in the US alone. Although the humble beef patty on a bun is technically not much more than 100 years old, it found its first wide audience at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, which also introduced millions of Americans to new foods ranging from waffle ice cream cones and cotton candy to peanut butter and iced tea.
Located on Main Street in the heart of Hackensack, my partner and I were greeted upon entering as first-timers to Marty’s for an Elite Event, thanks to Sara and the Yelp team.
This Garden State-born cozy restaurant creates a warm, inviting, and clean vibe with 6 tables.
Their menu features an array of specialty classic and signature burgers, fried chicken sandwiches with buttermilk-battered fried pickles, grilled cheese, or a griddle dog with onions, relish, and mustard, topping out with banana pudding and several milkshake options. It looks like a cross between Shake Shack and In-N-Out.
We decided on the Swiss Shroom Dijon Burger, Bacon Avocado, and Truffle Fries. Complimentary Banana Pudding ended our meal.
Food was made to order, arrived hot using fresh ingredients, was cooked to perfection, and tasty. Their special sauce blends wonderfully with the savory meat. Nothing was greasy, and it was a good portion at a decent price point. The staff was friendly and accommodating, especially Michael.

Read moreWe just moved to the area as first time homeowners a couple of months ago. Suffice to say, we have been overwhelmed! So we’ve been exploring the local food scene via various delivery services. This was how we first discovered Marty’s…. And it has become a top spot and definite favorite in short order!!
The food here is consistently good! We haven’t had a bad meal once and we have now ordered from them at least 10 times!! LMAO!!
The burgers are DELICIOUS and very satisfying! I prefer the potato bun but the seams seed bun is good as well. Their special sauce blends wonderfully with the savory meat and sweet pickles!
The poutine aka “Disco Fries,” is really good! The gravy is awesome - I just wish there was a bit more cheese. But absolutely worth getting! I order it every time!! My partner loves both the Old Bay fries and the Chili Fries. We just tried the Mac & Cheese the other day and it was excellent! And if you’re n the mood for something sweet, the Banana Pudding is the perfect end to this filling and very satisfying meal!
Everything is fresh and always delicious!! I’d give it 10...
