Altos De Jalisco — Restaurant in Hagerstown

Check your bank/card statement I know when I see a long review I lose interest, but please stay with me. I am a TripAdvisor user and this restaurant is not on that platform. Explaining my lack of reviews. We stopped in around 1pm on Saturday Feb. 1. There were 6/8 other tables. Not busy and plenty of staff. We were seated immediately. And waited about 15 minutes for the waitress to take our drink order. We were ready and ordered food as well. Food was good. The service was horrible. We had to flag her down for to go boxes. Again for the check. Never had a drink refill. They were not busy. I gave her a 15% tip. $6.27 on a 41.25 bill. My credit card statement reflected a $10.00 tip. That's 24% Tuesday morning I went to the restaurant and spoke to the assistant manager. She confirmed that my signed receipt reflected my intended tip. She also confirmed that a $10 tip was entered into the computer. She was very apologetic. Called the manager, who told her to refund the difference. HA HA. Nope, sorry I'm not even tipping 15% now. She was very apologetic and gave me a $10 bill. I don't know what personnel decisions will be made. I was lucky to have the receipt balled up in my purse. Buyer beware. I had dinner with 3 other people last night at Altos de Jalisco, and I first have to say that the restaurant is absolutely beautiful!

Here is a breakdown of my visit.

Appetizers ordered: small guacamole and small chorizo queso

Entrees ordered: pollo asada, shrimp and scallop fajitas, Texas fajitas, and chipotle chicken which was served with mashed potatoes.

Unfortunately- all of us started to eat before I was able to take photos…but I did get 2 pictures of our margaritas (priorities, iykyk!)

As for my rating broken down:

•Food: I rated the food a 3 mainly because it was very simple, and nothing about it set it apart from other Tex-Mex restaurants in this area except for the price! The price is easily 25% higher than other restaurants in the same category.

•Service: when we were seated, we had a server who helped us to the point of getting our food order put in. After she finished doing that, she told us that she was getting off and that we were getting a new server (it was around 5:30 pm). Service was extremely slow after that, and once we received our food, we didn’t see our server again until she brought our bill.

•Atmosphere: The restaurant is absolutely beautiful inside! We only got to see the main dinning area, but I imagine that the bar side is...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Altos De Jalisco , and I can confidently say it was one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had in a long time. From the moment I walked in, the ambiance was warm and inviting, creating the perfect setting for a memorable meal.

The service was impeccable. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations without being intrusive. It's clear they take pride in their work and in making sure every guest feels special.

As for the food, every dish I tried was a delight. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the presentation was beautiful. It’s obvious that the chefs put a lot of thought and care into their dishes. My favorites were the fiesta parrillada which were simply outstanding.

I also loved the attention to detail in the overall experience — from the carefully curated drink menu to the cozy atmosphere. Whether you're a foodie or just looking for a great place to enjoy a meal, I highly recommend Altos de Jalisco i will definitely be...
