2.5 Stars. A Frustrating Inefficiency.
Let’s get something straight. My time is meticulously allocated. A 34-minute window for lunch is non-negotiable. It is a block of time as precise and valuable as the etching on a business card. The Teriyaki Madness in Hamden violated this principle with a staggering, almost theatrical incompetence.
The wait was not merely long; it was an exercise in systemic failure. There were three employees behind the counter, moving with the sluggish, disoriented pace of people who have never felt the urgent pressure of a quarterly report. I watched them. One seemed preoccupied with arranging napkins. Another stared blankly at the steam table as if awaiting a divine revelation about chicken. The line did not progress; it stagnated. I checked my Rolex Submariner seven times. Each tick was an accusation of poor time-management, a tiny, mechanical scream in the void of their inefficiency.
I had ordered the Chicken Yakisoba. A simple, logical choice. Complex carbohydrates for sustained energy, lean protein for muscle repair. What I received was a bowl of Teriyaki Chicken with white rice. The error was immediate, glaring. It was the gastronomic equivalent of presenting a cheap, vinyl-bound planner when one has requested a hand-tooled leather agenda from Smythson. The insult is in the lack of attention to detail.
However.
I was compelled to consume it. My schedule permitted no further delays. The chicken itself was... acceptable. The protein was adequately grilled, with a satisfactory sear. The teriyaki glaze had a cloying sweetness, but it was applied with a certain brutish consistency. The steamed broccoli was correctly al dente, offering the necessary fibrous bulk. It was fuel. It served its purpose.
The fundamental problem is one of control. They lost control of the queue, they lost control of the order, and thus, they attempted to strip me of my control. The food was palatable, even moderately satisfying in a primal way, but the experience was a shambles. I left feeling nourished but aggrieved. The taste was good, but the failure of process is what lingers. I may return, but only with a deep-seated resentment and a firmly adjusted time-block.
now please excuse me. I have to return...
Read moreI know that this place just opened, but my recent takeout experience left much to be desired.
It was a weekday night, around 7pm. I had already placed an order through the app, but the sight of the place being packed as I pulled in the parking lot was worrisome.
That several employees were standing around doing nothing was my first indication of potential issues. To make matters worse, my takeout order was not ready until more than 20 minutes beyond the promised time. (There was another customer who said they waited over an hour.)
The frustration of waiting was exacerbated by the apparent lack of efficiency among the staff. There were four employees in the back, seemingly making decent progress, but the three employess in the front had nothing to do. I am very wary of why the owner is paying this many staff.
(This one employee was filling sauce containers using only one hand; their other hand, as far as I could tell, was fine. They just seemed lazy. Even when they knocked over a few containers spilling the contents, the employee was still very chill in using one hand to try to fix things. One container was covered in sauce, and they just halfheartedly scraped the container on the side of a tray and put the container in the bin to serve later.)
When my name was finally called, they missed giving me one bowl. Good thing I checked before heading out the door.
Despite these mishaps, the teriyaki itself was passable. While it wasn't exceptional, it managed to meet basic expectations for taste. The veggies were okay for what you can get in New England, but the inedible stem of the cabbage ended up in one of my bowls.
In summary, my experience at this new joint was marked by inefficiency and tardiness. While the food was okay, the overall experience left room for improvement. The manager should definitely keep a closer...
Read moreI put 1 star due to the fact this was the second time in a row they messed up my food like horribly, for one I asked the for both of my orders today to put broccoli on side they stuffed it in my both of the orders then I asked for extra sauce and they didn’t give it nobody listens there also when I finally got my food the bag literally had teriyaki sauce everywhere in the bag literally everywhere my food containers and everything had sticky sauce stuck to everything it was a complete mess so not only was my food messed up two times in a row but they just shoved everything in there making a disgusting mess that I had to clean up for about 20 min before I could even eat and I see all theses bad reviews online and it’s the same answer from the business from each one some generic little pun about how they missed their mark or something but they really don’t care it’s just garbage really they should be held accountable for messing up orders we are paying them for with our hard earned money not just a generic apology that mean nothing
Why would you ask me to email you to never respond back this is exactly what I was referring to when I originally said you do generic apologies that don’t mean anything you really don’t care about your...
