I want to start this review by saying that I am a fellow server/bartender and I gave so much grace during this visit. For the overall experience, I'm giving stars to (1) the manager, (2) the vibe/music, and (3) the experience that I normally have at the other location, this may have just been a bad day.
My family and I had a party of 8 for a 1pm reservation and were seated upon arrival. The table ordered 2 strawberry lemonades, a mimosa flight, 4 mimosas, and I got a coffee -- it took a while for the drinks to come out for a restaurant that wasn't packed/busy. The server, Jalin W, was rarely attentive and never offered a refill on coffee until I asked for it.
For food, a majority of us ordered chicken and waffles, an order of a crab cakes and sweet potato fries, and two orders of steak and eggs. Everyone's food started to appear at the table and my plate was delivered, however, my pregnant aunt sitting across from me ordered the same thing so I let her have my plate first and I'd take her order, no big deal! The server acknowledged the "switch" and let me know she'd check on it. 10 minutes passed... okay maybe the kitchen is busy, no biggie. 15 minutes passed... no update. 20+ minutes passed... my table is nearly done with their meal, still no update and no server to check-in on the table. I got up from the table to speak with the hostess and request a manager.
She let me know the manager was most likely helping the kitchen, which was understandable! And she let me know that the manager said she would take care of my bill and they were working on my plate right then and there. Great! I walk back to the table and the server comes up to "update me" that the food would be taken care of and that the kitchen misread the ticket. Normally that would not be an issue because it happens! I work in the food industry so I know. The issue was she didn't come and check on the table at all to notice everyone had a plate except for me, to ask if we needed anything , etc. That was where my irritation stemmed.
The food finally came as the rest of the table was finishing up. It was fresh off the stove, which was appreciated! The manager even stopped by personally to apologize and reiterate that the food was on the house - she was so polite, kind, and got things situated quickly. The chicken was FRESH, but I wish it would've been more seasoned. The waffles were great! I'm midway through the meal and needed another syrup, I let the server know and 5 minutes passed... I just got up and went to the bar to request syrup. I was so over it at this point. She comes back to the table to start splitting checks, NO syrup was brought and I'm still eating my delayed meal.
I gave grace, I didn't get loud or merely show that I was very upset. I know how the food industry goes. This is not to say I'd never return again, maybe it was just a bad day. I write this just so staff can be aware that attentiveness is key! Check on your tables. Make sure things are going well. Be proactive and offer things before the...
Read moreOn July 26, 2024, on Friday at 10:30pm, we were a group of 10 friends who came together to celebrate our friend's 30th birthday and to get together because our whole group has not been with each other in so long. We were extremely excited to spend time and fellowship with one another. This was also most of the group's first time coming to canvas, so it was exciting to try somewhere new. We had asked for 9 shots of tequila, everyone is 21and older, our server checked our id's, and she came back and told us that "my manager said she can't serve y'all drinks, but she said she'll come over to talk to y'all if needed." Red Flag #1 Daja the manager on duty told us "I need y'all to sip on your waters and then we will serve y'all drinks." We told her none of us had anything to drink so we were accused of being drunk when we were all just excited to see each other and have a good night. We did ask for the shots again and the manager came back over to check our ids for the 2nd time and made security walked around the table like we caused a problem which we didn't. We felt extremely uncomfortable because we were accused of being drunk and feeling like we were unsafe when we did nothing wrong. It made us feel like the manager just didn't want to deal with us when we did absolutely nothing wrong. We asked the server for the manager's name and Daja came to the table very defensive saying "Someone needed me" in a very aggressive way and we just ask for her name that was it. So, then we were all just ready to leave at that point, but we decided to stay because we were all hungry and wanted to spend time with each other. Daja still tried to I guess validate why her opinion was right for accusing us for being drunk and we all stated to her how you are trying to handle the situation is unprofessional and its embarrassing because we did absolutely nothing but make a reservation, came in ready to have fun and enjoy each other and have some drinks. She stated she could not discount any of us for HER being wrong in this situation and she only offered us a song request. Like no we didn't want that because we were wrongly accused of something that we didn't do and was pretty targeted for no reason, and all we were offered to fix the situation was a "song request". It ruined my friend's birthday and our fellowship together. Our food also came out cold, there were 10 of us and only 9 waters came to the table, the manager also just was ignoring us most of the time until she heard we were complaining, asking for her name, and she came also to argue when we stated we are leaving a review. I did ask for the GM name or owner, but the server stated she would have to ask the manager and I just didn't want to have any more problems from the manager Daja. The way everything was handled was unacceptable, it made us very uncomfortable, and we will not be returning, but we do ask that this is fixed, and we have an update because as a 1st time guest it left a nasty taste...
Read moreI was here with my family on Saturday for my sister's birthday. The entrance is aesthetically pleasing for those who like a good IG shot. The flower wall and swing is gorgeous. The service however leaves much to be desired. We waited 2 hours for a table for a party of 15. We were told that a party of our size would back up the kitchen. No problem, we knew with that size of a party during brunch hours, we would have somewhat of a wait. Finally we were seated on the tail end of brunch so the crowd has slowed down. We were given one waitress, Yonna. She was polite, and ready to take our orders. Since we had two hours to review the menu, we were ready to go. She took both the drink and food orders. The majority of us ordered mimosas, which by the way most of the flavors listed on the menu, they don't have per our waitress. She disappeared for a while, meanwhile another waitress bought the mimosas "because she just didn't want them sitting on the bar". She however didn't know any of the flavors because whomever made them ripped up the tickets. So lemonade, pineapple and guava all looked similar and we had to play a guessing game of which was which. So everyone ended up with the wrong drinks. Yonna returns, I tell her the other waitress bought the drinks but several were wrong because the other lady didn't know which was which. She asked who, then ran to the bar to talk to someone. Apparently she had all of them remade, which I thought was nice and it eased my irritation......until the food came out. There were multiple items missing from multiple orders, no eggs with a meal that came with eggs, no gravy on the pork chop, a whole meal missing for the only child in the group. We were told the eggs and the kids meal were done but in the kitchen because they couldn't fit on the tray. She went to get them, but it took her a while to return. Turns out the kitchen "was working on them". The eggs finally come out, still no kids meal. When I asked her what the hold up was because most people had almost finished, she got a a attitude and said we act like it was her fault and she has been checking on the food, and offered that we speak the manager. The female mgr who was on her first day as a mgr, was kind, understanding, and tried to make things right which we appreciated. I will say, the fried salmon and home fries were seasoned perfectly, my cousin enjoyed her chicken and waffles and my sister enjoyed her shrimp and crab omelette. The food is great, I am not saying not to go but pack your patience because it seems like they are a work in progress. If you hungry, hungry this might...
