Revisited in June 2024, haven't been back since the remodel. Minami Sushi in Streamwood offers a serene, clean and casual dining experience with minimal modern design. Their menu boasts a variety of sushi, tempura, and noodle dishes, hot and cold appetizer selections and daily lunch specials. Our experience began with a refreshing house salad featuring iceberg lettuce, carrot shavings, and cherry tomatoes in a delightful citrus ginger dressing. Our server, Tammy, was thoughtful in guiding us through gluten-free options. I opted for the Tasty Ex and Loco Tako rolls, both safe choices for those with allergies. The Tasty Ex, with its layers of salmon, yellowtail, and spicy tuna, topped with a medley of spicy mayo and wasabi mayo, provided a subtle yet delicious kick. The Loco Tako roll, while visually stunning, requires a thoughtful approach to fully appreciate its flavors, especially the spicy octopus topping. Neither roll was too spicy for me. My husband enjoyed the Tekka Don, a generous bowl filled with mushrooms, tamago, tuna, seaweed salad, radish, and seasoned rice. The varied textures and flavors made for a satisfying dish, though we both wished for more gluten-free options to enhance our dining experience. Overall, Minami Sushi offers a talented staff, tranquil ambiance and delectable dishes, but could benefit from expanding their gluten-free offerings to accommodate a wider range of dietary preferences. Since there were few gluten free options, I may come back for the rolls I was able to eat. There are no desserts on the menu, so if I had to suggest one I think a simple ice cream or fruit to cleanse the palate would suffice! (Previous review: Not a mind blowing experience and just okay. Seems to gather a large lunch crowd. No gluten/dairy free notes on menu. Completely unaware about food allergies! Would not likely come again. I had a couple bites of the dragon roll and was not excited or tasty. It was bland and just okay. The booths had taped up seats and seemed a little unclean).

Minami Sushi is at the top of the list if you want supreme quality authentic sushi and Japanese cuisine at a price that won’t break your wallet! Lunch or dinner, they offer tempura, Teriyaki, Katsu, Udon, ramen and much more! I can see why this place is rated one of the very best in the area! It’s looks small and unsuspecting from the outside but the place has a very clean cool interior, simply decorated with a good vibe. I was seated right away at a comfortable table although they do have a traditional sushi bar if you like that. Maddi my server was very friendly and so helpful with ordering. They have sushi but also have more bento box options than anywhere else! They have very reasonably priced lunches! The miso soup came to the table hot; subtle smooth flavor with soft tofu pieces. I ordered the salmon teriyaki bento and they allowed me substitutions in place of the pork gyoza and the pork fried rice. They replaced it with veggie gyoza’s, a crispy delicious potato croquette and veggie fried rice which I very much appreciated. The chilled salad with the ginger dressing was very good. The California roll was made perfectly; not too much rice, rolled evenly and it didn’t fall apart! The miso paste was of very good quality as was the ginger. The salmon teriyaki in the bento box was served hot and had a light teriyaki sauce that complimented the fish but didn’t over power or mask the flavor of the fish itself. The salmon skin was perfectly crispy even though it was in the teriyaki sauce. How did they do that?? They have a full bar to order cocktails and drinks. I was so impressed to see that they have a full display of several professional sushi knives to cut the seafood perfectly as they do in Japan. They had a lot of people coming in to pickup carry outs too.

Don't sleep on this spot! This place won't catch your eye when driving past it, despite the fact that it doesn't look special it is still a fantastic spot for sushi. I first ventured here in the early 2000s and used to be a regular, but life happened and I was taken away by my career. Everytime I come home a make it a point to stop by! There is a reason they have been in business for over 20 years Through my many visits I have never had an issue with the service - the team is friendly, funny, and quick. Even when the place is packed the wait wasn't more than 15-20 mins. Seating has doubled since 2008 and they do have limited bar seating available. The menu has a nice selection of sake, cocktails, and traditional Japanese beers. A solid selection of warm and cold apps but you can't go wrong with the Gyoza. There are bento boxes, katsu plates, and a few other entrees. You can order sashimi a la carte or there are a few different variations of Chef's choice. The boat, while pricey, is also a great selection and a esthetically pleasing. Finally, there is a good range of specialty rolls for those who aren't ready to hop on the raw fish train. The rice is spectacular and this place has one of the best Philly rolls that I've ever had. Lunch includes some good specials. Parking can get tricky on the weekends.

I was visiting from out of state and came across this place on google... It's one of the best sushi places I've ever been to! Service was amazing, and food was even better. The atmosphere is very calm and inviting while still being stylish. I got the Driver and Summer rolls and added some yellowtail nigiri and was not disappointed. Although the Summer roll was definitely the better of the two rolls with very complex flavors. The nigiri tasted very fresh. I also got the white peach sake, which tasted like biting into a perfectly ripe white peach. I highly recommend for those that enjoy sweet drinks. House salad and miso soup were great. I also got the agedashi tofu as an app with the teriyaki sauce and that could've been a meal on its own with the serving size. Overall, I was very happy and would come back time and time again! Couldn't be happier with the quality of food and service.

My monthly pilgrimage to this sushi haven is a ritual I look forward to, and it's a place that has yet to disappoint me. Each visit is an opportunity to indulge in my favorites, starting with the spicy seafood udon soup. This dish is a harmonious blend of heat, spice, and a variety of seafood and vegetables, creating a flavorful and comforting bowl that never fails to satisfy. Equally impressive is their "It's Fire For Real" sushi, a spectacle served with actual flames, which not only captivates the eyes but also delights the palate with its heavenly taste. No visit is complete without their garlic edamame, a perfect appetizer that sets the stage for the culinary excellence to follow. This sushi spot has become more than just a place to eat; it's a monthly tradition that continues to exceed my expectations with its consistent quality and innovative dishes.

It was definately worth driving 1 hour from my home. This place imports fresh Korean fish directly air-shipped from Korea. It is a must sushi place if you want to try Korean style sashimi called "hwae" We had "A course" for 4 people which was $230, but the amount food was more than enough, we could not finish last bowl of rice with Spicy Korean fish soup called "Maeuntang" Every bite was a masterpiece and the fish was incredibly fresh and melted in my mouth, and the presentation was stunning. I was especially impressed by the variety of options and the chef’s attention to detail. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the staff were so friendly and attentive. Whether you’re a sushi lover or new to it, this place will blow you away. Hands down, the best sushi I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to come back!”
