I used to love Portillo's, but every time I go to this location there is an issue. Since they were sold the food has gotten worse, smaller, and more expensive. However, the reason I won't be going back is the service. They are slow and consistently screw up the order. This location is right up the street from me and since I moved here three years ago they have gotten more orders wrong than right.
Typically I would have stopped going long ago, but I often have visitors who've moved out of states and when they come in they want pizza, beef, hot dogs. The last five visits they have screwed up the order. More often than not I haven't gone back because who has the time and energy to drive back and wait in line again.
Two weeks ago I was finally mad enough that I went back and complained. The manager apologized and comped me two free meals. I went today to get my meals, and other than the typical slow speed, they got the order wrong once again.
When I got my food the girl at the window read my order back to me. This time I counted the number of sandwiches, fries, and drinks. When I got home what was supposed to be a beef and a bacon cheeseburger, was actually a chicken sandwich and a hamburger with ketchup and mustard only... I mean what is the point of the employee going through my bag and reading my order if she's not actually checking what she's putting in there?
In any event, this food has gone down hill and costs way too much to have to perpetually return for mistakes. Go if you like, but you may have to go behind the counter and make the...
Read moreA Friday evening between 7:45 & 8pm, you'd think the drive-thru, not having near as long a line as during the dinner rush around 6:30-7, would move a tad faster, considering there would no longer be such a backlog of orders. And while there was a gal walking the line of cars taking orders, and mine was taken no more than maybe 10-15 seconds after I pulled up as the last car in line, the line didn't move for a couple minutes after my order was taken. It wasn't until I had gone completely around both left turns and was facing the lane with the windows that the cars kept moving every few seconds. Prior to that, we'd move a couple feet and then sit for like, 5 minutes. Move a few feet, sit for 5 minutes. And repeat. Not even joking, my car began overheating and thermometer was in the red by the time I was facing the take out windows, and just a TINY bit of smoke had begun rising from under the seams of my hood.
I mean, my car's not brand new or anything, but, I thought the purpose of drive-thrus (at fast food restaurants, mind you) were to get your grub lickety-split? If you're sitting there waiting to get through the line like you're sitting in downtown gridlock just trying to make it another block up for the turnoff to go home, but you're stuck in it long enough for your car to start overheating.... I don't think that's fast food. I coulda probly cooked it, myself, on my overheating engine in less than how long it took to get it from the dang...
Read moreI was shopping because I needed to stock up on some items. But, I had a big problem. I was real weak because I was sooooo hungry to the point that I was dizzy. I looked up and there was a Portillo’s. But, I didn’t believe it. I just knew that if I struggled to get there, it would disappear. It happened to me once before. I was barely walking in the desert and saw at a distance some palm trees surrounding a small body of clear spring fed water bubbling up from below. Once I arrived at this oasis, it disappeared. So, I was resigned to the inevitable fate of the Portillo’s being a figment of my imagination. I turned about face, but something told me to turn around again, head that way, and give it a try.. What do I have to lose? So I did. I went in and ordered 2 jumbo hot dogs with everything on each one of them. While I was standing there waiting on my order, I got dizzy again and started to spin around or was the ceiling spinning around? Then, I heard a little boy say to his mother, “Hey mom, that man is turning in circles like a ballerina”. I responded, “I’m just hungry ,young man!” My order came out and was that quick!! I sat down and savored each bite. The quality was truly there. I didn’t regret my decision to turn back around and proceed into this great...
