First I must give credit where it’s due, for a special evening out, the dinner and dessert were delicious, the drinks were excellent as well as the service. My main reason for dining here was because we were staying at the inn for a few days. Maybe I shouldn’t have been so presumptuous in thinking this inn would be more like a bed a breakfast than a hotel so I was expecting a more personal experience. I am used to meeting the owner, being shown around the property, having them present at breakfast chatting with guests, maybe even a little snack area or stocked fridge. There was a fridge with water and a coffee station but I don’t even recall seeing cream/sugar. There was no common area for guests to just sit and relax, just your room. (I was never shown around so maybe there was another area and I never found it?) When considering that the food at dinner is exceptional, I was disappointed that there were no meal selections for breakfast, all guests got the same small pastry, a parfait and a slice of quiche with coffee/tea. I was told that this is what they would be serving the following day as well except a different pastry and quiche would be served. None of the food tasted bad I should add, just the whole stay was not reflective of the charming, cozy, friendly bed and breakfast vibe you may get elsewhere but again maybe I expected too much. My daughter was supposed to be our third guest but she decided not to stay, thank God because my room had no provisions for a third person even though I specified there would be three people when booking the room. We were also supposed to have a discounted three course dinner for staying there but of course the bill came and this was not reflected on the bill. I definitely feel that the inn’s priority is more the restaurant than the inn. Nice...
Read moreSimply, it was phenomenal. I reserved a room there at the B&B for mine and my girlfriend's four year anniversary. My girlfriend called them up (secretly from me) to decorate the room and surprise me with it. They immediately were ecstatic to allow her to do so (of course with the condition of no open flames). When we arrived we were given a tour of the lounge area and the setting where we would enjoy our gourmet breakfast the next day. After that, we were taken to our rooms to get settled in. We were not bothered afterwards, which is a huge plus for me. My girlfriend and I spent the rest of the evening absorbing ourselves in the community of downtown Harrisonburg by grabbing dinner and then drinks afterwards. The night we spent there was relaxing and romantic. My girlfriend and I also read that it is haunted which was quite exciting for the both of us to stay up late and see what happens. The next morning we ventured downstairs to enjoy a gourmet breakfast consisting of fresh brewed coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, a fresh fruit and granola parfait (which was absolutely refreshing), and a lemon scone. After these series of sweet and fresh tastes, we were given a sauteed vegetable and egg frittata (it was vegetarian as we had requested during our booking) with a creamy sauce on top that I do not recall the name of. After several cups of coffee and relaxation with a beautiful view of the back yard, we made our way up stairs for the rest of our wonderful stay. I completely and utterly recommend this bed and breakfast. I also hear their restaurant is a "must" to trying it. My girlfriend and I are both JMU students so we already live in Harrisonburg, but it was nice to experience downtown in such an elegant way. We will definitely be coming back for...
Read moreI had high hopes for our stay at Joshua Wilton House (JWH) in Harrisonburg, VA, especially since it was a gift from our coworkers for a post-wedding Romantic Getaway for my husband and I. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing.||||Booking was complicated from the start—using a gift card proved difficult, and the staff’s knowledge seemed inconsistent. We had to make our reservation in person because the online system wouldn't accept the gift card.||||Our stay began on a positive note with a lovely dinner, but things took a sharp turn the next morning. We were treated rudely by Tanya, staff member, during breakfast, who seemed suspicious of us and insisted we pay immediately before we'd even finished our meal. The bill was incorrect, as the promised discount by the general manager, Bill, wasn’t applied—a mistake made by the Tanya. When I tried to address this, the staff member dismissed our concerns, refused to let us speak with the general manager, and even threatened to call the police.||||After much distress, we eventually settled the bill with Bill, general manager, who apologized for the employee’s behavior and applied for the discount he promised to us, but the damage was done. I contacted the owner in detail about this event, but my concerns were unanswered. Our special stay was marred by unprofessional and discriminatory conduct, leaving us feeling unwelcome and stressed.||||I hope JWH addresses these issues to prevent future guests from experiencing the same. Our experience was far from the high standards we expected, please train your staff so all guests feel welcome at this...
