Dunn Brothers Coffee — Restaurant in Hastings

I hate coffee. So writing this a surprise to me too say the least. The answer was too. I mean, if you are thinking 'why are they doing a coffee shop review'. Well I was surprised too learn two things. They do a pretty decent bagel which is painstakingly wrapped and lasts forever. Handy. They need more interesting cream cheese flavors though. Plain just fall short so often. Secondly and most importantly they make a durned good turkey bacon sub. Yes better then every one else in town, even the old bakery we lost. It's about the same price as other high end subs but the attention too detail and freshness really make a big difference. As well as the sauce which surprisingly reminds me of Italian seasoning yet works very well. I feel they get a bit overlooked as a sandwich stop. Here's some credit were it's do. This is absolutely the WORST Dunn Bros I've ever been to (and I've been to a lot of Dunn Bros). They have the slooooowest staff I have ever experienced. Today, Saturday night, no other customers- it took them 7 minutes to hand me my latte AND they messed my drink up. They never greet a person at the drive up window until the drink is ready; so you just sit there oddly waiting (which is a good thing at this point because I've had to pull away too many times waiting for my/our drink(s). If I had another option in this one horse town, Id take it. Most days I drive up to CG to get a decent coffee instead. Ps. never not one time have I arrived here this fall and asked for an apple pastry and they have had one - they have been out every single time, no matter the time of day. This is our favorite place for coffee and we’ve been going here for 10 years, so normally I’d rate it higher. That being said, in the last year we’ve found that the brewed coffee has been terrible about 75% of the time. The baristas have been inconsistent with their beverage quality and the new hires don’t take the time to greet us. The lattes have been all foam and the coffee is watered down. Have some taste tests, raise the starting wage to get some motivated employees, and please make this coffee better than caribou so we can support local again. We hope to see a change so we can better enjoy it when we visit!

Edit: 12/2021 Not sure what changed here exactly but I’m so happy about it! Every time I’ve had coffee here in the past few weeks it has been phenomenal. Staff is super pleasant again...
