Family of 6, 1 kid, 5 adults.
Food: Clucked- good but veggies and chicken were underseasoned but the sauce made up for it. Teristeak- good but steak is a little small, great teriyaki tho Shaka steak sandwich- mediocre but I did opt for no onions and bell peppers so that definitely changes the integrity of the dish, the Maui onion aioli was yummy tho, but the bread was already soggy when it hit the table Clam chowder- absolutely do not order. My mom is a clam chowder lover and could not eat more than a bite, my boyfriend was able to tolerate it cause he dipped his chili cheese fries in it Chili cheese fries- standard, basic
Now onto the service. Our server was Tara. I wanna start about by saying she was very personable and sweet with my nephew, it just seemed like she was a little in the weeds and struggling a bit to keep up with the amount of tables she had. While I know I was a little bit difficult, as it took 3 visits to our table for me to order. The first time (when the rest of the table ordered) I wasn’t quite ready and she asked if she could pop over to another table while I decided and I understood and said of course, she checked on a few tables then came back after maybe 5-7 minutes, I had a couple questions about the clucked dish, mainly about the sauce and had said I’d never had it and tried to tell her while I don’t like the texture of mushrooms but do enjoy the flavor, she shut me down and just said not to order it then asked to go check on another table- i said it was no problem the only issue was she walked by our table probably about 5 times after that, one of those times looking directly at us- i was no longer looking at the menu and playing with my nephew, clearly ready to order. She did not take my order until she brought the rest of the tables food (besides the cup and bowl of clam chowder my mom and boyfriend ordered). I will mention that we did modify 2 dishes and asked for my nephew’s entree to come out before his side (he’s 2 and won’t eat anything else if he sees French fries) now when I ordered I ordered the Shaka steak sandwich and she asked if I wanted fries for my side and I said yes, when my food came out, it was just the sandwich so the next time she came to the table I asked about the fries and she claimed I didn’t order them, and said she’d put them in, the next time she came to the table we asked about the clam chowder and she finally went and got those about 20-25 minutes after the first round of food arrived. And she brought the wrong size for my boyfriend (a cup instead of a bowl) no biggie, it wasn’t good anyways. But when we received our checks it was still a bowl on the check instead of a cup. I know that was fixed after someone at the table brought it up, but u was not there for that interaction. Then when I was using the restroom I overheard her talking poorly about our table and complaining about us to the food runner, so that’s cool. I also wanna throw out there that I have been a server for 10 years so I get it, but when you mess up an order, take accountability for it don’t just ignore it or blame it on the customer, and check on a table other than just dropping off food, ask if the food is good, especially if a dish is uneaten. I know I’m a little bit more on the difficult side, but I am always polite about my requests and indecisiveness, but the rest of the table wasn’t difficult and mistakes were made with their food as well. We still tipped just under 10%, unfortunately the poor service and lack of accountability did reflect in the tip. Personally had I given a table that service, I wouldn’t be expecting anything.
So if you’re thinking about eating here, don’t. All the food along that strip is relatively similar and with much better service, check out the cheeky tiki they’re...
Read moreService was great but the food and drinks were subpar. Our bill was $102 before the tip. I wouldn’t have any issue with that if we had received great food but that wasn’t the case. The Pipeline Poppers were really good. First issue was the drinks. I ordered a Pina Colada and my partner ordered a Blue Hawaiian. Neither tasted very good and both were weak. I ordered the Surf and Turf which was a 12 ounce Sirloin steak, grilled or popcorn shrimp, mashed potatoes, and vegetables. I chose popcorn and switched out the vegetables for onion rings. The shrimp and onion rings were awesome. The mashed potatoes were good but the portion was tiny. I was really looking forward to having a good steak at least but was out of luck there as well. I ordered a medium rare steak and received one that was well done with zero pink at all. It was also so charred that I literally was tasting charcoal with every bite. It was extremely disappointing. My partner got the Tsunami burger. It was dry, flavorless, and was also charred and overcooked. Fries were good. While I was finishing up the meal the waitress finally asked if we wanted another drink (glasses had been empty before our meal was served) and brought back two pina coladas that were nasty. I’ve never sent anything back in my life but we sent these drinks back and just requested the bill. The waitress apologized and said that the bartender quit and a server was filling in with zero bartending experience. We have been here before back in 2018 and everything was great back then but we were both extremely disappointed this time. Sadly, we probably won’t be back on...
Read moreWe chose Big Kahuna Beach Grill as our first dine out experience while visiting Kona. We were a party of 11 on a very busy night, so service was a little slow but that was to be expected. Our server was very very kind and fun, once he was able to take our order he made sure drinks were served quickly and that the kids got their meals first which was very thoughtful. Their was live music playing which was awesome, but it was incredibly loud and hard to hear one another which isn’t for everyone. I ordered the Bommie Poke and a cup of the seafood chowder, other orders in the party included 3 kids meals (1 grilled chicken, 1 chicken strip, 1 grilled cheese), club sandwiches, teriyaki steak, fish and chips, bbq chicken, and Philly cheese steak sandwich. Unfortunately the great waiter and service can’t make up for the underwhelming food. We were very excited to eat here based off the menu and were quite let down. I did like my food, and my mom liked her fish and chips, but the steak came back cooked to the wrong temperature , the chicken was full of rough and chewy bits, the sandwiches were bland, the fries weren’t crispy or hot, the kids meals were very small and bland, and my husband said the cheese steak sandwich was extremely disappointing. When 75% of your party doesn’t enjoy their food it is certainly disappointing after a long day and a steep bill!! These view and service was great, but we wouldn’t eat here again or recommend. Drinks were also good but quite small...
