It's a bit hard to rate this and I have kind of dwelled on it for quite some time now, I'm going to leave good stars but I kind of need to get this off my chest. There were so many great things about it all, but also a couple things that were a bit off for me. The staff was quite friendly and gave great education. I loved not having to leave from the harbor. The boat was clean and comfortable and the mantas were awesome, save for being next to a couple potatoes that didn't know how to float in the proper position and were flailing all about the whole time. Now onto the parts that seemed weird as a customer that paid just as much as everyone else. There were a couple larger groups of people on the tour and a few groups of couples. It seemed as if the staff paid extra attention to the larger parties when offering drink service and mostly ignored the couples (save for one but I'll get to that in a moment). They made it a point to be overly generous in offering mixed drinks and refills, where as I had to ask for a single drink after I was only offered a water by guy handing them out. When I asked for a drink, one very kind staff member seemed eager and pleased to make one for me when different a staff member seemed annoyed and told him to go do something else and that he would make it for me. It was apparent that they knew they would be making more money off drinks from the large parties than the few straggling couples and I was most definitely not a priority to what seemed like a more senior staff member. That same staff member that was burdened by my drink also seemed quite keen on a woman that was on the tour, with another man, though the staff member seemed to treat the guy as if he was invisible, only spoke to the woman and made some questionable remarks to her. This staff member also made a point to sit directly next to this woman and exclusively offer her drinks and "anything she wanted free of charge", fetched solely by him. I had also been quite looking forward to a warm drink on the ride back after getting so cold in the ocean, but the only thing that came was a choice between some sweet treats or Ritz cheesy crackers or something. After the way I felt I had burdened the staff about a drink on the way there, I dare not ask about anything more on the way back, though the site had advertised a warm drink on the ride back. I know it seems weird to be bummed out about no hot chocolate but it honestly was one of the perks that made me kind of excited about using this company. On the way back, after feeling like I was a less important customer due to my 2 person group, I was just ready to stop seeing the staff member trying to schmooze this woman sitting next to me, with the awkward guy she was with becoming increasingly more awkward, and get off that boat and get home. The one staff member was really what put the worst taste in my mouth. It was extremely off putting to see the whole situation unfold. Maybe I had higher expectations, maybe I am too observant of what's going on around me? As I said, I had stewed on this for a while to give myself a moment to see if I was just being sensitive or something. But here we are 6 months later and it has really stuck in my craw and made me reluctant to use this company again with how many other options there are in Kona. This review is not to deter others from using these services, as many others have had a vastly different expierence. I just needed to put this out there for the...

Kona has tons of different companies you can take a tour with as with any tourist location what sets Kona Style apart is the Kona Style family. From the moment you show walk through the doors to check in they are already treating you like family. Tea and coffee are offered and several people greet you with a smile ready to help.
They are knowledgeable and fact oriented about so many different facts, legends, myths of Hawaii. Completely fascinating and you haven’t even seen the boat yet.
The boat is SPACIOUS yet elegant and simplistic. Absolutely breathtaking. Captain Jacque and the crew Dion,Bert, and Kelsey were a blast.
Dion brought a child like energy to the experience that had me laughing the whole time. The Captain kept the music selection on point. He read the room and knew just what to play to keep the vibe going. Kelsey was behind the bar serving it up…. Yes there is a full bar, plus a parfait station for breakfast.
The ride was breathtaking. You the wind in your hair, the sun, the water and the sound of waves… out of body. You have full range of the boat. There really isn’t anywhere you can’t hangout or walk. The few rules they do have they go over in a little safety briefing in the beginning. There are two bathroom on the boat but id disnt use them so i cant elaborate. I spent my entire trip up on the bow of the boat feeling like a bird!
The ride Kealakekua Bay was about little over a hour. Although I wouldn’t have minded if it took all day. The bay is gorgeous. The water pristine and crystal clear. When you arrive they give you a briefing about to cans and can nots. You have a hour to snorkel, sunbath on the boat or what have you. Lunch is then served. When you booked your tour you got to pick your lunch. It was delicious.
After that you settle in for the ride back. Be sure to bring a towel and a hoodie so you stay warm because now you are wet.
All in all I would do this tour over and over again. Like I said before it was the company, the staff, and the boat itself that made this tour stand out...
Read moreWhere to begin. Between cruises and other vacations I’ve been on a number of excursions in a number of places. This was quite possibly the best company I’ve ever been on an excursion with. Bottom line up front - We liked the first excursion so much that we got off the boat and within 24 hours had booked another excursion! The boat was immaculate - I mean seriously immaculate. The staff was insanely professional and ridiculously knowledgeable about everything Hawaiian as well as everything in the water. They could tell you everything from the sleeping habits of dolphins to the history of a myriad of places on the island. We went on the morning snorkeling tour (they’re one of only four tour groups authorized to go into the waters off the state park) and our son and daughter (ages 6 and 3) went with us. These guys could not have been nicer. My son asked a million questions and they never got sick of him. They were amazingly polite and patient. Our three year old insisted on checking out every inch of the boat and although we watched her as well, they always helped her on steps and always had an extra set of eyes on her. And you can’t even say it was a one-off experience because my husband and I went on the sunset cruise and manta ray snorkel two days later with a few different crew members and that staff was amazing too! Captain Dan was our Captain for both and he was awesome. No one knows how to navigate that catamaran better than him. In addition, he has a great sense of humor and an infectious enthusiasm for what he does. If you weren’t enamored with Hawaii already, spend a few minutes talking to Captain Dan and you will be! All of the staff has a tremendous respect for Hawaiian culture and the environment, which I really appreciated. On the first snorkel they served delicious sandwiches, pasta salad and chips. Sodas, juice and water were complementary, and drinks could be purchased. I wish there was something I could say that needed improvement, but both experiences were perfect - and you can’t improve...
