Everything we could possibly want in a shave ice place. The ladies working the counter were friendly and offered everyone more syrup if they wanted as they got further down into their cups. They had expertly heaped the powder-fine shave ice into domes and thoroughly poked holes all over, so the syrup flavored every bite and we didn't have to take them up on it. We came in knowing what we wanted, but overheard the helpful staff explain to folks who followed us in the different flavors, so don't hesitate to ask for recommendations or explanations. If you don't know what Li Hing Mui is, just ask! (It's dried salted plum, and in my opinion it pairs beautifully with pineapple.) The coconut syrup might be stolen from heaven, and is a must-try for anyone who likes coconut. For an extra treat, a scoop of macadamia nut ice cream at the heart of your shave ice is never a bad idea. With or without it, this is a treat that will leave you smiling long after you slurp the last of the melt from the bottom of the bowl.

I can't get enough. They have the best ice cream, great shave ice flavors, and quality toppings. The people are really nice too, and offer more syrup if you want more as you eat. They offer a kamaaina discount and $1 off if you give your room key. The ice is fine like powdery snow. There is a walk-up window outside, or you can come into the shop where they have tables with holes cut into them for you to insert your shave ice. There are 3 sizes and they are not small. Like all shave ice, it takes a while to make. There are about 3 people working at a time, so if you have more than 3 orders, be prepared to wait. The ube and vanilla macadamia nut ice creams are to die for.

I first had Ululani's several years ago when visiting Maui - I liked it so much I went back to get some almost every day of our vacation. Now we're visiting the big island and I was THRILLED to discover they've opened a location in Kona. It seriously doesn't get any better than this - melt in your mouth ice, homemade fruit syrups, amazing flavor combos, and delicious ice cream. Get the mac nut ice cream topped with shave ice, with a snow cap. You'll be spoiled for shave ice forever! Note: it's a little hard to find - located in the little strip of shops behind the ABC Store next to the Kamehameha hotel.

Service was unprofessional and so slow. We got to the register ready to order, waiting for someone behind the counter to at least greet us and say “I’ll be right there” or something, but I got nothing and stood there waiting for a long while. A girl was right by the register tying up the trash and then lining the trash can with a bag all the while she could’ve said something to us to at least acknowledge that we’re there, waiting. I was ready to walk out the door until one of the workers finally told the girl to help us. She took our order, and we had to wait at least 5-7 mins for 2 Keiki ice shaves and there were no other orders before us!! I ordered another one after that because one of my kiddos wanted one and that took another 5 mins! By the time we got it, the ice shrunk/ melted and it pooled in the cup. Making ice shave should be real fast. She was moving painfully slow. I wish I had gone somewhere else and saved $30 on 3 ice shaves ($10 which included toppings). They were out of Vanilla ice cream too, which is what we wanted to put in our ice shave. At least the passion fruit flavor tasted good. But really, save your time and go to the Scandinavian Ice Shave...

This was the BEST shaved ice I have ever had. We thought it would be so cool to have Shaved ice In Kona but we couldn’t find any anywhere. On the way back we spotted it right next to our cruise port which was very convenient. We had shaved ice in many places in Hawaii, almost every island but nothing could compare to Ululanis. I’ve never seen a place so organized. The ice was so perfect looking and they came to measure it and it was a little small on one side and they happily re-did it. The system was amazing. I have no idea how they did it but the flavor never left the ice and it was good all throughout. The flavor was amazing and the ice was so smooth. I was extremely impressed and it’s not every day I think so highly of a place. This was the first place in America in a long time that I was just absolutely astonished. Never did I think I would be writing a review like this for a shaved ice place but you guys deserve it....
