Looking for good loco moco? Don’t miss this spot! Koji’s is a local spot, literally hole in the wall place for locals. No parking lot, but there’s plenty of street parking. It might not look glamorous outside (or inside for that matter), but the food is smackdabingly good! The prices are super reasonable and the portions are large.
We walked in during peak lunch hours so it was quite busy. It’s a small place, so really, standing room only. There are two seats in the corner for you to sit while you wait on the food to be prepared. We watched locals come in and out, many ordering the “special of the day” which was whatever they had ready in their buffet layout. If you order this, you’ll be in and out within a couple minutes. I ordered the Koji Loco and my boyfriend ordered the Teri Beef Loco. Both were fantastic and exactly as pictured in all the photos. They don’t skimp on anything! It was super filling so either come hungry or expect to be...
Read moreKoji was at the top of my list of restaurants to try at Hilo. With all their typical Hawaiian fare served out of a restaurant with a rustic vibe like that? Who could avoid Koji?!
We were really glad we avoided both the early breakfast crowd and the lunch crowd by going at 10 AM. We got the Koji breakfast burger and the Koji Moco. The burger was out of this world. Just the perfect amount of crunch, the patty was perfect and the bun served as a base that elevated the rest of the dish. Simple, yet glorious.
The Koji Loco was good but it did not hit the spot for us. It was just too salty. The Portuguese sausage was salty, the curry was salty, the patty was salty, and the sour cabbage was also salty. The only thing that was not salty was the Mac. But it still tasted decent.
Feedback to Koji if you're reading this -- reduce the salt and your restaurant will reach a higher level of cult status (than...
Read moreI am 34 weeks Hapai (pregnant) and the lady owner was rude and wouldn't let me return/refund or get something new off the menu as the corn beef tasted burnt and old like canned dog food (she claimed she opened a new can when she made my food). Then she said she cannot return anything as I touched it and that she won't make money and the homeless/houseless across the street do this to her all the time. She told me if I don't like it I can throw it on the street. I ordered fish and chips from her the day before and the fish wasn't fried but grilled. False advertisement. She told me she cannot do it as panko would ruin her fryer. I went back to give her the benefit of the doubt and left disappointed. As she said because I don't return what I don't like at other restaurants. So don't go here because the customer isn't...
