I was sitting at home, thinking about the fond memories I had on the Big Island of Hawaii, and the sweet center of the sleepy, rainy, amazing, beautiful, authentic town of Hilo is Nector!
Great for the spiritual types, people who enjoy good conversation and vibes, people who care about the quality of their service, and great for people looking for an extraordinary experience from a "cafe." This place is so much more than that!
I haven't been here in over a year, but I decided to look it up so I could recommend my friend who is visiting Hilo, and saw what I thought to be a low rating on google for what I had CONSISTENTLY experienced there, which is nothing short of 5/5 service/quality/care/experience.
I don't normally take time to review things, but I was literally so appalled at the gall this of lady below who is essence trying to stomp on this businesses online presence and marketability.... over..... a small mistake?
like bro you're really going to commit to multiple one star reviews over that?
Also her, probably: Rates all Uber drivers 3 stars or below. "Because 3 means average." -Skimps on tips because "it's not my fault they aren't getting paid better" -Sits in the handicap area of a full bus, taking up another seat with her fake LV purse, forcing YOUR grandma to stand.
So in short, I absolutely DO recommend Nector Cafe! Good times.
I do NOT recommend making grammy stand. Rude, and...
Read moreThere are positives and negatives. For the negatives, I went to the cafe at the back of the store to order and I was asked by staff to back to the front of the store to order at the touchscreen "kiosk", so it which was a bit odd to walk back to the front and then back to the cafe again. The touchscreen is hard to see with its low light and glare due to being at the entrance. It would make more sense to have the screen right in front of the cafe area at the back and have a sign at the cafe saying "looking to order? Use the touchscreen just behind you". Unfortunately the coffee wasn't particularly great, although the staff did seem very busy so I don't necessarily blame the staff for that. I ended up waiting about 10-15 minutes for just a coffee & cookie which is one of the longest waits I've had in Hawaii in the few weeks I've been here. I ordered something else, but it was out of stock and hadn't been updated on the touchscreen. There's also no option to use dine in cups/mugs even if you intend to sit in; takeaway cups were the only option given at the touchscreen kiosk, but with how busy the staff were I imagine they wouldn't have much extra time to wash up glasses, etc., so it's honestly fair enough. On the positive side though, the atmosphere was really lovely! I enjoyed the art and colours everywhere. It's a great place to walk around and look at the art while...
Read moreOh, this has to be the oddest cafĂ© ever because when I asked for packets of sugar, the response was âwe donât have packets of sugarâ I could pay to have some type of sugar syrup (wasnât quite clear what she meant with that), but then she kindly offered me some raw brown sugar from some mini Tupperware things she got under the counter and put the sugar in my drink herself. Very odd. My cold brew that I had was excellent though thatâs why Iâm giving it three stars. I do have to ask how the department of health in Hawaii works because this place would be shut down in other states and cities because they donât allow paying customers any type of bathroom facility (where I come from if youâre a dining establishment with seating, you need to offer a place to pee/ wash your hands) . They told my elderly mother to cross the street and go use the bathrooms at the nasty bus station, which, by the way seems to be the homeless hang out place in Hilo. For me if a restaurant has excellent food and drink but no basic facilities I simply wonât go back because Iâll be too scared to eat or drink thinking I might need to use the washroom. I think theyâre lucky that theyâre in a town that has one off customers from...
