Me and my friend were coming back from a wonderful trip in Colorado. On the way back we got a little hungry and were running low on gas, we decided to stop in hays after fueling my friend looked on Google maps for a place to eat. we see a small place with good reviews and decide to take the risk, what's the worse that can happen? We thought having no idea what we were about to get ourselves into. We pull up and walk into order, the restaurant was empty but had the aura of an old little ceasers, we look at the menu and laugh to nearly the point of tears. Taco supreme? Sanchez? Sancho supreme? We say to ourselves utterly befuddled by these items. My friend is vegetarian so he ordered the cheese enchilada and I order the borracho. After a small wait we take our items to go and open them in the car. We slowly unveil the box only to see a truly horrific only comparable to the horrors seen by soldiers in Vietnam. The enchilada looked to be covered by a combination of ketchup and canned tomatoes, the tortillas was not even close to cooked. The cheese was completely cold in the enchilada presumably sourced straight from the nest of an emperor penguin. The borracho was even more abhorrent. We did not know what to expect from it as this is not a real Mexican dish to either of our knowledge. Opening the Togo box I see a perplexing sight, my only thought at the time is who could've possibly came up with this specimen of a dish. Two "fried" tortillas with ground beef, sour cream, and tomatoes in-between. The beef I can only assume was scooped off the side of the road next to that winters road sand it was so dry. I cannot comment on the sour cream or tomatoes as they were both sourced directly from the walmart half a mile away, they were edible. My friend begins to eat him enchilada and starts crying actual tears. He has been driving for nearly 5 hours at this point after an already tiring day and his only motive keeping him going was maybe just maybe he would be able to eat some food with any sort of nutritional or flavorful value, alas, he was stuck eating something not even a swine would look twice at. I begin eating whatever my dish was called and go into a psychotic state pretending the food isn't actually that bad, after months of reflecting I've come to terms with the trauma I've experienced at this location and am able to accept that the 12 dollars I paid for the meal would've been better spent given to the crackhead living under the I-70 overpass. After unluckily succeeding in eating the slop my friend drove directly to the Arby's in town with no concern over traffic laws in-order to get their signature Jamocha shake which I can highly recommend. Going from eating the taco shop slop to slurping down on the Arby's Jamocha shake gave me such intense whiplash of flavors I cannot begin to describe. Imagine if Dante went through all of inferno and all of Paradiso in a matter of 15 minutes, skipping purgatorio. Despite being long done with the food my friend still has pure rage going through his veins not being able to conceptualize that he spent almost ten dollars on what could've went towards a bag of Cheetos or maybe even a new windshield we oh so desperately needed at the time. He spend down the Highway reaching a top speed of almost 120mph, thought impossible to do in his Pontiac. This memory still haunts our dreams as Sanchez sometimes appears in my nightmares, I don't think it'll ever go away. This review is left as a warning to all the unknowing travelers visiting Hays, Kansas and thinking they might have found a decent place to eat, the same way we foolishly...
Read moreLived in Kansas for a long time and I had no idea this place was here. I am glad I found it now. Live out of state and will definitely come back when we are in the area. We had the combo #2, two corn tacos, and a bean and cheese burrito. My wife is an ice snob and loved their ice! The staff was very friendly and the place was clean. Definitely a local favorite as the place was steadily busy the entire time we were there. Inside and out. For as busy as the were, the service was fast. The only complaint I had which is minor, was the food could have been a little warmer but, the food tasted great. I definitely recommend it. Also, the salsa bar was a nice addition and the jalapeños were tasty. If you are in the area you should go check this place out. Good food and...
Read moreAtmosphere and cleanliness were good but service was only fair. The cashier couldn't tell us the difference between some of the menu items and when the food arrived it was not very authentic. My son and I had the number 2 combos and the enchilada sauce was from a can and almost tasted more like Chef Boyardee ravioli sauce. My cheese enchilada was not even warm enough to have melted the cheese inside it and it was just a mild, shredded cheddar. My wife had soup and said she's was pretty sure it came from a can as well. The taco shells were very good. Thinner than most and nice and crisp. I should have just had the 6 taco plate and avoided the enchilada and Rancho. Overall we were disappointed and will not return. Lots of more authentic...
