Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Hayward

Not long wait time to be seated. When seated waiter was a bit standoffish. WE ordered our food. Didnt get asked how we wanted our meat cooked. We got out order. Out appetizers came same time as our food. However the were sitting ther. Why didn't they dish them out when they were ready? The way I know they were done is bc the motzarella sticks were soggy on the side that was touching the plate as it it was sitting there a while. The Maranara sauce had a dehydrated top layer. Also indicative that it was just sitting there in the warmer. Again, why didn't they serve it? Kind of gross to have slightly soggy slightly crispy motzarella sticks. The chicken plate was edible, the stake plate had good mashed potatoes. That's it. The meat had a weird texture to it and was not cooked evenly. It was rubbery and we done on the thinner side and the thicker side was nervy and chewy and rare. Why didn't we get asked how we wanted the stake and why didn't it resemble a cut that I'm familiar with really gross. We lost our appetite, after we pointed it was not well cooked. Then the waitress put in an order for anot her stake, but it took forever to come out, like at least 20 minutes. We decided to leave even if one of us was still hungry. By this time we we were ready to go with a headache because the manager lady decided to have her dinner break right next to us.... she was complaining about work issues regarding people who where working that moment, and talked down to employees that approached her. The other I suppose second in command gentleman having his break with her was soft speaking aND fortunately I couldn't hear his portion of the conversation. But the lady manager was loud and had no qualms about speaking work problems in front of customers. This was distasteful and frankly ruined my experience of the little good aspects of the food. I come to a restaurant after work to get away from work issues and have nice service that I am paying for... this was the opposite of what we were expecting to have. Never again. Pleasant Visit with Great Service at Applebee’s Hayward

I recently visited Applebee’s Grill + Bar on Southland Dr, Hayward, CA, on a Sunday morning, and the experience was quite positive. The welcoming ambiance, ample available tables, and prompt greeting set a pleasant tone for our visit.

The server stood out for her friendliness and attentiveness, regularly checking in with us. It was a nice touch, even though we didn’t require much assistance. What added to the positive experience was the discovery that Applebee’s gift cards could be used not only for payment but also as part of the tip—a feature not common with many gift cards.

Although we typically don’t dine at Applebee’s, a Christmas gift card led us here, and we were pleased with the flexibility it offered. We ordered two appetizers and two main entrees, all of which were enjoyable, leaving us with a positive impression.

During the checkout process, there was a minor hiccup when the screen prompted a $2 charge for a game. I recommend double-checking the machine before completing the transaction. Fortunately, the server swiftly resolved the issue by removing the game charge.

We came to this location 4/25/25 at around 7pm. My group was a party of 4 and it was some folks waiting to be seated in the waiting area. I noticed when I walked in it was multiple open booths,tables and high tables. Sooo after about 25 minutes of waiting hardly nobody being seated l asked about the open seats and specifically asked if we could go to the bar area with the open high table. I was told NO but I wasn’t given a reason why. After about 40 minutes we were finally seated and it seemed like now that I inquired about all the open seats they wanna start seating folks faster. Server was nice but she was very slow on getting the things we needed like utensils which usually come to the table when you are seated. We ordered and our salads came but we can’t eat them because no utensils. I asked multiple times and after about 20 minutes we get em. I ordered a burger and I like them well done but not burnt and mines was basically dry and semi burnt and absolutely no condiments on the burger.
