I was excited when Fuku Sushi opened in Hazlet NJ on Rt 35, and not just because of the provocative name. Chef Mike and Chef Dave offer consistently excellent sushi at a startlingly low price.

If you're an adventurous eater, order the "Omikase", which is sort of like the Chef's Special. Sit at the sushi bar so you can talk with them about your preferences, and you'll get some of the best sushi combinations you've ever eaten. Omikase literally means "I trust the house", and it's a great way to experience foods you may not have thought to order yourself.

The sushi burritos are an interesting option if you want a quick but filling bite. Basically, it's a maki (roll) sushi served without being cut into discs. They're filled with both traditional sushi ingredients as well as chopped veggies, making the burrito connection.

Pay particular attention to the daily specials menu, as it always features the freshest ingredients, and is always delicious.

There are other good sushi places in the area, but none offer the innovative creations or the Omikase you can get at Fuku.

Our first visit was wonderful! My family and I came on a rather busy night. The poor waitress was flying all over the place!

I loved the decorations more than anything else. (They even had a Christmas tree!) The size of the restaurant was nice and small, which made it feel special. I ordered the eel poke bowl, which was good for the most part. Something in the bowl tasted a little too sweet, and I wasn't really a fan of the edemame beans. (Perhaps I should've chosen the salad with my eel instead?) If I could just order that eel, I probably would!

My dad liked his tuna poke bowl, and my sister had no complaints about the shrimp poke bowl. If you're not a big eater like her, you may not be able to finish any of the bowls. Luckily, they had to-go containers.

Shout out to: our waitress, whose name I do not know, for supposedly getting me another eel poke bowl because I didn't realize the seaweed salad had sesame seeds!

XOXO, Timmy's...

Second time I ordered from here, I did enjoy the first time as their lunch specials are very reasonably priced and I found the food yummy.

Today, however, I ordered (via DoorDash) their three roll lunch special. A few bites in and I realize there is something sharp and hard in my spicy scallop roll... I pull it out of my mouth to reveal a STAPLE had been inside of my roll!!!

I called to let them know what had happened... the answer I got on the phone was "well what would you like for us to do about it?" I asked that they let the manager know and that they please get back to me. I also let them know that had I not chewed as thoroughly as I had, I could have wound up in the hospital!!! Never heard back.

Sadly this spot I was excited about will be a never again for me. I hope no one else has...

Wow! Awesome place. Low key, comfortable atmosphere. As for the sushi burrito, it was amazing. It definitely had the right amount of everything. I didn't need one bit more of spicy mayo. I never had spicy mayo so perfectly dispersed 😍. I tasted it with each bite, yet it was never overwhelming so you still tasted every other flavor in there. Thank you ! Unfortunately, I did not get to eat any of their sushi rolls, but their menu looked to die for.

Excellent menu options, friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Mango chicken lunch special was very tasty, $1 extra for brown rice. Friends got other lunch dishes and all very happy, including a Pad Thai rave from one of our more picky buds. Ordered a 'Christmas Lights Roll' for the table that was as beautiful as it was delicious. Hot tea also very good. Lots of parking and a very convenient location to my office. We'll certainly be back.
