December 11, 2014, Cafe Zupas, 1381 West Sunset Road, Henderson, NV 89014 How could you Zupas? I haven't been this disappointed and embarrassed in a long time. I had finally talked my friend into coming with me to my favorite restaurant, Cafe Zupas. I had been bragging about the awesomeness of the food for some time, telling him how delicious it is, how amazing the ingredients are, and that I just loved going there to eat. I was sure he would too. I ordered my favorite soup and sandwich, Wild Mushroom Bisque and Pesto Chicken, the choices I made the first time I went, the ones that made me fall in love with Cafe Zupas. My friend ordered the Yucatan Chicken Tortilla soup and the Honey Cilantro Carnitas sandwich. He was ahead of me in line, and so I watched in disbelief as I saw the server put some watery liquid in the soup bowl, then a pinch of broken tortilla pieces, and a small scoop of guacamole that seemed to be about a tablespoon, and I didn't see any chicken. Later I tasted his soup and it was tasteless, watery, and blah. I've seen and tasted that soup before when other friends had ordered it, but what my current dinner companion was served wasn't even close. Then, after we'd eaten a while, it looked as though he was leaving most of his sandwich on the plate. I assumed he planned to take it home in a go box, but when I asked about getting a box he said he didn't need one because he had already eaten all the meat. Most of the rest of the sandwich just went to waste, and I knew that what had looked like a generous sandwich, had turned out to be mostly bread and fillers with the meat taking up the center of the bread only. Now, about my soup and sandwich. I looked at my sandwich when we were at the end of the serving line paying, and I wanted to ask right then what had happened to it? This sandwich was less than half the thickness of any I had been served on previous visits to Zupas. It was a flat, pitiful looking thing. So I was flabbergasted even before I got to the table. I sat down and eagerly took a spoonful of my soup. It already had looked a little different, but I was totally unprepared for it to not taste anything like the soup I loved. I've had this soup at least 4 times previously, and every time it was the best soup I ever tasted. But not today. If my soup and sandwich had tasted and looked like they did today the first time I came to Cafe Zupas, I never would have come back. The price has always been a little high for my budget, but the food was so good I felt like it was worth the price. But now the price has not only gone up, the quality has gone WAY down. I'm not likely to return again, and my friend just thinks I'm nuts for raving...
Read moreI've come to this location several times and I've noticed that the online/phone orders are very inconsistent with timing. Sometimes, it will match the estimated time given (usually 12 minutes after), or you'll have to wait an extra 15-20 minutes. I attached a receipt from my order today as an example. For context, I placed my order online at 12:00PM, I arrived at Zupas at the esimated time on my order (12:13PM), but my food wasn't ready until 12:28PM. My order was the try 2 combo (Ham & Smoked Gouda / Lobster Bisque) and does not need to be cooked or heated, it is a cold sandwich that is assembled and a soup that is pre-made, so I'm not sure what took them half an hour to complete this order.
It seems like the staff here is unable to multitask when it gets busy and they choose to prioritize orders being placed in person instead of chronological order. While I was waiting with 8 others (also waiting for their online order), I noticed that the customers who came in after and ordered in person received their food before anyone who had placed an online order.
I would recommend against ordering through the phone/online during busy hours (lunch/dinner) if you're short on time or else you'll have a long wait and overextend your lunch break. If your order requires things to be heated or cooked, expect to wait even longer. It should be okay if the restaurant is...
Read morePlaced order at 7:12pm & waited until 8:04pm for order to be ready. This said, when people are onsite waiting extended periods of time, it would be considerate for them to at least offer people drink cups or a strawberry. Something to ease the long wait time (inconvenience) for only 2 sandwiches, 2 soups and an already prepared dessert.
Also, it would be nice if the app could push out order pickup time if they are backed up, or getting high order volume. I would never have ordered and then waited that long had the app given a more accurate time when placing the order. 40min longer than promised pickup time. Yes, 40 min (see texts).
Food: All tasted good, except disappointed with the brisket sandwhich. I'd never tried it, but now know that you get like 2 tablespoons of meat at best. It was tasty, but very skimpy. I showed them my sandwhich before leaving, asking if that was normal/right and they said yes. I legitimately wonder if they decrease portion for "try two" items because the picture when ordering is very misleading. Ultimately, I was disappointed I waited so long for a sad sandwhich that they didnt offer to even remake. If it was better, the long wait would have been OK,...
