This was my 2nd visit to Sushi Hiro, a tiny hole in the wall sushi restaurant located inside a shopping plaza. My 1st visit was cut short when the hostess said we'd have to wait 2 hours for a table. Which brings make me ponder why this spot is so popular.
My second visit, I arrived during a slower period, waited 15 minutes for a hostess, but then was told I can have a table, if I leave within 45 minutes. Now, what the actual f**k? I have never been to a restaurant that gave me a time slot. This seemed super unprofessional but I reluctantly agreed.
I was handed 3 menus. 1 for drinks and two for food which was confusing. The menus are cluttered and awkward and arranged by weekday somehow, it was just a mess. Then came pricing. Every item was grossly overpriced 2 to 3 times the price of even a great sushi restaurant, which again...why is this place so popular? Between the deadline times slot I was given, and the very over priced menu, that was enough for me to just straight up leave.
Sorry Sushi Hiro, but there are better, friendlier and more reasonably priced sushi restaurants on Eastern Ave that also don't...
Read moreThere is only one Sushi Hiro. It is best if you call ahead. They have the fresh fresh fresh fish you can't get anywhere else. SUPPORT SMALL BIZ... We met the owner on my daughter's very first sushi experience. Hiro and Yoshi are delightful, smart, funny, and possess the master craftsmanship i love. Yoshi was super cool and got me to try new stuff. I qont order a roll again... only fresh fish on rice for a true experience. Don't go to stay a long time. They do follow strict protocol, temp check, hand sanitizer, etc... these guys have served sushi to a few of our Radiers!! Also... if you wanna eat good between two people? No booze, ok.. just green tea and soda for us but we had like 13 or 15 pieces for around $105. But again... it was something I saved up for and considering I live near Nellis and Lakemead and drove clear across town based on one Good review... and we wanted to see the stadium.... so we ended up here at Hiro's. GO. SUPPORT SMALL BIZ. THIS PLACE IS CLEAN FRESH (romantic too)AND PROFESSIONAL. PLUS SO DAMN GOOD!!!! 10/10...
Read moreUpdate: I visited again (two days in a row actually) and can confirm/reaffirm the food here is spectacular. This is easily one of the best sushi restaurants in the US. Don't sleep on Sushi Hiro despite is unassuming placement in a strip mall in the middle of the desert.
I was skeptical as I’m a bit particular about sushi. Browsing online and looking at pictures I wasn’t sure about the rice as visually it didn’t fit my preference. But we were hungry and gave it a try and I’m so glad we did.
The miso is perfect with really fresh chunks of tofu and seaweed.
The fish is excellent and melts in you mouth. I’m a big fan of umimasu (sea trout) and theirs was fresh and soft. The hamachi (yellowtail) was excellent.
The rice is great - texture, taste, ratio (not too much!). The service is great, and we loved the entire chef line greeting us as we walked in and thanking us as we walked out.
My daughter enjoyed the bento box (and I enjoyed picking at her food when she wasn’t looking).
10/10 one of my favorite...
