I have gone here many times; I love the tacos and became familiar with the gluten-containing items, as I have a serious disease that can cause me to throw up and experience intestinal damage if I come into contact with just a little gluten.
Though I'd always had a good experience, I explained my restrictions to the cashier and asked if he could please tell the kitchen to avoid any gluten cross-contamination. He agreed.
I ordered a tamale for the first time, which was honestly very disappointing. The corn one was incredibly dry, and my dad's meat one was as well. Then, after I made myself finish it just for the sake of finishing, I noticed there was gluten in the tamales, a new change.
I asked the same cashier about this. He maintained there was no gluten in tamales until I pointed out the menu description. He had no clue about this important menu change and even more frustratingly, didn't seem to care. Even when I told him I might throw up.
If I was going to have a stomachache and intestinal damage, at the very least, I would have wanted it to come from something much better than the tamale. After contacting Guisado's, they offered me a full refund which makes me less bitter, but they also tried to gaslight me into thinking the gluten in tamales was not a new change, until I showed evidence otherwise
Still, if food allergies/restrictions aren’t an issue for you, I’d recommend going...
Read more6/1 Update: Came to this location for the second time, and gave it 3 stars pertaining to the review below. Giving it 1 star this time because I was sitting directly in front of a cashier, waiting for my order, when I got up to ask for the code to the restroom. Instead of using her context clues, the woman asked me if I had placed on order already, and I was extremely offended and embarrassed. I literally had to look at the Hispanic gentleman in the eye in the back of the kitchen, who took my order initially, for confirmation….just to use the bathroom, when I was sitting right in front of this woman the entire time. She basically assumed that I was loitering and trying to freeload, instead of just being a kind enough person to allow someone to use the restroom. The things that I go through as a black man is appalling to me at times. Never coming back.
Previous Review: I LOVE Guisados, and idk if it’s just me, but this location needs to put some more seasoning in their meat. These tacos were a lot more bland than what I remembered. Don’t be shy & bring out that flavor, the horchata was lowkey fire...
Read moreMy first introduction to Guisados was few years ago at the Downtown location. It was a memorable meal and kept saying I needed to go back; however, the LA traffic kept me away 😏. I was soooo happy when I saw that they opened a location in Hermosa, couldn’t believe it.
Last week went back to back. Wednesday lunch - sampler and a sweet corn tamale. I am so happy to see the elote (sweet corn) on the menu as it is unusual to find it around here. I got the melon/limon agua fresca at the recommendation of the cashier and it was very tasty and refreshing. Not overly sweet or watery.
The next day went with my hubby for breakfast. I had the chorizo, chicharrones and papas tacos, all delicious. Cannot decide on a favorite. Hubby had the chorizo and a pork tamale topped with an egg. The tamale was very good.
Service has been 10+ both times, fast, attentive and overall very welcoming. Location is nice. They have few parking spots which is always a plus in the area.
We are already planning our next visit,...
