Maybe some of the worst service ive had in LA. Came in at 10:30 to grab a bite and drink with 3 other friends. Asked the host what time the kitchen closed, he said 11pm and to order at the bar. Perfect I say. We knew what we wanted so we sauntered up to the first bartender. Waited for over 5 minutes and he never asked what we wanted. Never even made eye contact, and I was looking at him hard and ready. (Not like that). Got frustrated and moved to bartender number 2…one who was trying a lil too hard to pull off a whispy stache. 3 different times he looked at me and said “gimmie a sec” then disappeared completely to chat with coworkers. 5 minutes in and I was over it. On to my last hope, the girl bartender near the DJ. She had just finished making drinks and was charging a guy. I waited patiently as she finished the transaction. Once finished she immediately walked away. I waited and she eventually did come back. It was now almost 10:45. 15 minutes since I began my journey to order food. She looked at me and asked what I needed. Excitedly I said “2 breakfast burritos and…” before I could utter the other 3 food items and 4 drinks she said “kitchens closed”. I politely mentioned that the host said the kitchen closed at 11. She retorted back that she could ask them but she didnt recommend it. I laughed, said nah, i’m good. And we left. 15 minutes it took us to find out we couldnt do what we had asked to do from the start. The combined total of just ringing our food and drinks, which would have taken less than 30 seconds, was well over $100. I get late night crowds. I get kitchens close. I get bartenders are busy. But every step of the problem could have been remedied with better information and better customer service. But hey, they have beer pong. Hermosa Beach trying so hard to become Huntington...
Read moreI just visited this establishment with the hope to receive decent and appropriate customer service. I have a service animal and was treated like I was lesser. I immediately had a bartender tell me no dogs even after I specified I have a task trained dog. I kindly tried to explain that I my dog is considered medical equipment under federal law and I was met with “mmm I have to ask my manager” My animal was not vested but that’s not an ADA requirement but rather two ADA sanctioned questions can be asked:
Is your dog a service dog? What tasks are they trained for?
I was told an outdoor table could be arranged which would’ve been fine had the waitress not treated us so poorly. I’m not sure why but I was given a hard time about my ID and my brothers. I was asked for it multiple times. I had it bent and had a light flashed on it for a very long time; not sure if this was due to the dog incident. I then asked to speak to the manager (Cody I believe) to try to rectify the situation and suggest that may be staff should be educated on accessibility issues. He came out and met me with the most careless attitude. He barely looked at me or even listened. I was met with a “well you’re dog isn’t even vested”
A vest does not defined training As mentioned above, it is not a federal requirement.
Once I finished trying to state what was wrong, Cody half shrugged and left. I read excellent reviews about this place online and never thought that I would be treated so poorly. I’m not sure if this treatment was due to the fact I had a service dog or possibly (and I would hope this isn’t the case) due to my appearance or ethnicity. Either way, it is unacceptable and demeaning. Please educate your staff on the law and basic human decency. I do not come to establishments to be...
Read moreIt's very hard to consistently have a good experience here. I'm in Hermosa Beach everyday and always try to support the local business as they tend to have a lot of pride in there work. Sharkeez is a big exception. I try to avoid this place at all cost. Definately the food is never the reason anyone goes there. It's a place to be seen and to see people. The only good thing about it is that it is ALWAYS open. most good bars/restaurants in the area will close when there isn't enough business because it's expensive to hire quality workers. But this place is just a joke. Avoid this establishment if possible.
I finally had my last straw with this place when i was waiting for a friend and i was sitting outside. An older woman who was clearly drunk came over and started harrassing me. I told her to leave me alone and she threatened by saying that she was an "investor" and part-owner and that she could kick me out in 5 minutes. I told her i wouldn't mind if she did because at this point she had now come and sat next to me which seemed ironic since I was the one "annoying" her. The manager at that time asked me to leave and I told him what happened. He said it was a "sticky situation" and there was nothing he could do. To his credit he said he would comp me drinks the next time I come in but Even if they gave me an open bar I wouldn't come back. I grew up in Hermosa my whole life. Worked all day running a volleyball tournament for kids under 18 at the pier and wanted a beer and a place to sit.
Sharkess wants to change the enviornment down at hermosa, if they do then more power to them. But if my voice is heard at all I would hope they take there chain...
