I'm writing this after what was a deeply upsetting and humiliating experience tonight trying to check in at the Grandview Inn.||||I have PTSD, and travel with a Psychological Service Animal (PSA). Psychological Service Animals are different from ESAs in that they are working dogs who are trained to perform a specific function. In my case, it is checking rooms before I enter them.||||After traveling for hours to get here, I arrived after 10pm and was repeatedly told by the manager (Zubid?) at the front desk that the hotel doesn't take pets. I explained over and over again that my dog is not a pet but a working animal, and is protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act. He responded, over and over again, that most hotels in the area don't take pets and that I would a) have to pay a $500 deposit to have him in the room with me (which is illegal) and b) that housekeeping would have to come in every single day, at an unspecified time, to clean the entire room, because dogs are dirty (despite the fact that I would both be in the room still and would be working).||||It took all of my energy to not have a breakdown at how ignorantly this was being handled and also that I would have to find another place to stay this late at night. He flippantly kept telling me there were plenty of other hotels in the area. I searched online, calling one in front of him, and it was clear that I was going to have to scramble for accommodations and also pay more money because of something that is simply not my fault.||||When I told him I could sue for something like this (which I can, and exercised my right to share), he intimidated me by staring me in the eyes and making me promise I would respect him. It was disturbing and creepy, and naturally I got upset. He also told me there were cameras in the area, so he didn't care (okay? I don't know what that proves).||||If you are considering staying here, please know that they are discriminatory and have no respect for the law or the very difficult situation that guests with disabilities are in.||||I am mortified, heartbroken, and lastly, unclear where I am to...
Read moreThe Reservation: Called to make reservation after reading the Yelp reviews for the last 6 months. Spoke to Krishan on the phone who was very funny, helpful and accommodating.
Checking in: We got in a little late (around 8pm) Krishan was there to check us in, helped us with luggage/luggage rack, it was an efficient process, just as when I called for the reservations
Our stay: We stayed at GVI toward the end of our Spring Break (4 days/last week of March 2019), each day there were no issues, our room was clean, everyone employed there was helpful, non-invasive and friendly. Our double-queen room with partial view was exactly what we expected, a fair amount of amenities, comfortable, clean & quiet. Our patio was HUGE and we took full advantage of it.
Our check out: Our flight was not until 8pm out of SNA, Krishan made sure our luggage was kept safe while we spend the last day enjoying the weather and touring around town. The check-out process was effortless!
Above and Beyond: On the last day we bought about $300+ worth of souvenirs which we LEFT BEHIND IN A GIFT BAG AT THE HOTEL. We realized our mistake after our driver was about 20 minutes out of Hermosa. I called Krishan immediately asking if MAYBE someone was honest and turned in our gift bag... HE RETRIEVED IT and it was waiting for us at the front desk.
Full disclosure, The GVI was not first on our list of accommodations in Hermosa, we chose it based on the LOCATION and my initial customer experience when making my reservation! We will GLADLY stay at the GVI again, Krishan, his staff and the accommodations made this our favorite visit to Hermosa/Manhattan/Redondo area. Thank you for everything! The...
This is is a nice little hotel with large rooms, nicely furnished, and only steps from the beach. Literally.
It's not 5 Star in terms of high-end, but in terms of what you get for your money. There's no gym, no restaurant, ball room, room service or view.
The first time I stayed threw me off. There's no grand entry. Just a sliding door to the elevator and stairs. Upstairs there's a small check-in counter, and the owner's family lives in the apartment behind it. Ring the bell for assistance.
Once checked in, you'll find the rooms are modern and comfortable. I get a king, which comes with a desk, chairs ottoman, wet bar, and a fridge.
For me, the big thing is the location.
Walk out the door and turn right, and you are literaly steps from the beach. First you pass a small beach rental business, then an awesome little Mexican restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Really casual, has a patio out back. Good service, and margaritas, too. Inexpensive to boot!
There's a tiny park, and you are on the Strand. One block up is Pier Avenue, the economic center of Hermosa Beach. Lots of bars and restaurants, live music, shopping and more.
Walk about 2 miles south to the Redondo Beach Pier, or 2 miles north to Manhattan Beach.
This is our go-to when in Hermosa Beach. BTW, they've got this kind of shiny grey textured tile, which looks great, accept that they found out that it stains easily. I thought it was dirty and even tried cleaning it myself, but it seems permanent.
The area is surrouned by over-priced places with ocean views, but for the money, I'll just walk outside for my view. I don't spend a lot of time in the room anyway.
Get out...
