My boyfriend and I just moved to the area and were sad to leave behind some of our favorite coffee shops from Atlanta. (Rev Coffee & Java Cats if you are ever there!) That being said, this came up and grabbed our attention immediately. The name was humorous and our coffee was bold, great priced, and quick/great customer service. They offer curbside and pick up, and have a very cool vibe. I read that the owner is a veteran, so I will definitely continue to support this small business whenever I need a nearby coffee run.
It's better than Starbucks and Dunkin, and honestly the same price. I cant wait to try their prepackaged beans and to bring this home to my sister who adores coffee as much as me.
Update: I hate to do this, but I’m changing my review because they now allow people inside without masks. Even if they are eating, the shop is too small for this distinction to even matter. I inquired about this and they have changed their policy due to phase 3 guidelines despite the space being very small and not able to social distance from those not wearing masks. I have read the new phase 3 guidelines, and it clearly says that patrons need to be able to be six feet away from each other despite letting people not wear masks while eating or drinking. This is impossible to do in this small space. I love supporting small businesses, especially this one. I know this is silly but I used to look forward to going every weekend and now due to their policy and spike in cases in this area, I don’t feel comfortable knowing how rampant the virus is during winter and how easily it spreads. If there wasn’t a virus that was killing people I would let this go, but it’s just too important. I understand that small businesses have it hard, but these guidelines aren’t feasible for this cramped space that has way too many people in it at a time. I just don’t understand why letting two people eat inside at a time is worth putting other patrons at risk. Once the pandemic is over, I will revisit. I know they have two locations, and I’ve heard the other is bigger. That one isn’t open on weekends, so that’s very sad me. For now, I wanted to let those who were also concerned about coronavirus know about this specifically before visiting. Maybe I will order their beans online to still give them business, but the experience of having coffee made fresh I can’t...
Read moreWent to Weird Brothers on a bit of a whim as I was passing through the area. The shop itself is located in what sort of a feels like an industrial park (which I'm finding is somewhat common in the roasters community). Typically these sorts of locations struggle with parking, but Weird Brothers had plenty of spaces at 9am in the morning, which I assume is near their peak hour.
The first thing I noticed is that the shop itself is pretty small. The cafe, counter and kitchen are all located on the first floor which is probably about the size of a typical single floor apartment. Not huge. There's a bar looking out the window and a couple tables scattered throughout the room. It could have just been that we went while they were exceptionally busy, but we had a little trouble finding a place to sit that was private and not surrounded by people waiting in line.
Meanwhile, from what I can tell, the upstairs portion of the shop is dedicated to actually roasting their beans and, as far as I know, doesn't have any additional seating.
For me, space is really important in coffee shops. I don't mind being around people, but I like to have enough room to set up and do work comfortably without feeling like I'm being crowded by folks standing in line or at other tables. I didn't really feel like Weird Brothers provides that kind of atmosphere, which was disappointing.
So in terms of location, I wasn't a huge fan.
However, this place does make one good cup of coffee. I ordered their house drip and took it to go. The flavor was very good. Hearty, smooth and not too bitter. I also have to admit that I really liked their brand packaging. Anything that makes a Star Wars reference wins in my book.
All in all, I would definitely choose this place over a Starbucks, but only if you're looking to grab a quick cup of coffee. It's not great if you're looking for somewhere to sit and...
Read moreLike most of the places I travel to and find wonderful back road shops, cafés, and restaurants I found Weird Brothers by accident. When I walked in, the ambience was great. There was so much to take in and so many interesting things to look at that I felt as if I was in the right place for a local coffee treat.
I ordered a cup so that I could really soak in the vibe of this place and was interested in getting a bag of coffee as well to take with me.
I have to admit that it was a surprise when I asked the barista what kind of blend the coffee was and he answered "medium roast." There was no origin information on the bag. It felt a bit awkward to explain that by blend I meant where were the beans from not the roast level of them.
In the long run it doesn't really matter if the coffee tastes good, which it does. it's pretty easy to tell what's in the bag once it was brewed and it was definitely not disappointing.
What I like about the coffee here is that the roaster takes great care in preparing the beans. What I got in the bag is so toasty it's almost as if it was fluid bed roasted and not out of a drum-type roaster. The beans and chaff look like they were only heated up to just under a city roast, which is OK by me because it works for these beans; my daily-driver coffee is full city + because I like the bitterness. Thid coffee from Weird Brothers is a nice change from my day-to-day grind.
I would recommend this coffee to my friends in the area and I will definitely be stopping in again to pick up a bag on my next...
