Quality of the beer has been changing and going downhill for years. The service at the brewery is hit or miss, mostly miss aside from a few exceptional bartenders. The food has never been good and it has always been overpriced. They botched the Double Nugget Nectar release and then blocked me from their Facebook page because I spoke up. I've spent thousands of dollars on products from this company and I will never spend another dime on their products again. This company does not care about their loyal fans - this company cares about sales. John's apology for the botched Double Nugget Nectar release is weak at best and it's full of lies. First-hand knowledge says that most customers were buying multiple cases, not 2 4-packs which is what the limit should have been. John Trogner said most people were buying 2 4-packs and that is a lie. Highly unprofessional to block those who spoke out about the nonsense. This brewery is full of it. There are other good Pennsylvania craft breweries and their beers are cheaper. Try them out.
Edit They also keep making their popular old beers into "brewery-only" releases. What's the sense in this? Are you trying to drive merchandise sales as well? First Cut IPA did great in stores and I just read this year that it will be brewery-only. That makes no sense. After the botched Double Nugget Nectar brewery-only release, I will not be driving 45 minutes to watch the beer sell out in 2 minutes right in front of me.
Edit again Oh cool now you replaced First Cut with Joyous IPA. No one likes Joyous IPA. Why make First Cut brewery only and only make enough for 10 people to buy 5 cases each with no limits? You are losing fans.
UPDATE Now they're planning on releasing a Triple Troegenator. Once again, it'll be brewery-only with no limits. So there's a great chance you'll wait in line for an hour to get absolutely nothing as people in front of you buy 10 cases. Double Nugget Nectar all over again. It's like this company either doesn't learn from their mistakes or enjoys laughing in the faces of disappointed potential customers. What is wrong with you people in Hershey?
Update again Oh cool now Golden Thing is brewery only in a small batch. What is wrong with...
Read moreReally surprised to see the number of negative reviews. I live very close to Troegs and it is a go to when I have people visiting or a special occasion for me and friends. They serve some of the most interesting food in the area and the beer selection is diverse and tasty. If you can't find a style you like, you aren't tasting. I really appreciate this since I am not an IPAer but a stoudt, bocker! Yes, it is a pretty small venue and it does get very busy at times! If you don't want to wait/deal, there are plenty of other options in the area (but none with the same vibe/atmosphere or beer food selection - lookin at you Snitz Creek). Yes, you have to order food at the food counter - so what? Plenty of other places use this method which separates the brewery and kitchen operations. If you don't like that go to Rubber Soul. (Go to Rubber Soul anyway. The food is great! Beer is acceptable.) I've never had a bad experience with the staff, but have had to wait for food and drink when it was packed. I'd rather wait at Troegs than go to Fudruckers, Houlihan's or most of the other overpriced and substandard places in the area. Exceptions include Devon ($$$ but can be fantastic) Smoked (spotty but I've had great meals there as well), Rotunda. Yes, on occasion, I've gotten some food duds at Troeg's. The salmon baguette is terrible and should be taken off the menu. You simply can't put a piece of delicate salmon in an oversized hard crusted roll and expect it to be anything but disaster. I appreciate the nod to a healthy option, but this sandwich needs a serious rework!
If you've never been you owe it to yourself to go. If you had a bad experience, maybe try it again and at a time when it isn't bursting at the seams. Get the flights so you can taste the variety of brews. Some stand outs in the food are Brisket (my partner like this but we aren't hard core BBQ enthusiasts!), Duck Pate, Mussels, Cheese and Charcuterie....
Read moreHonestly, it hurts me to write this review because I love Tröegs beer and the staff was great. But the the food was expensive and a complete waste of money. 1st they were sold out of everything we wanted, but I believe they got slammed from a concert at Hershey Park so I can’t entirely hold it against them although that’s something they should consider. 2nd the “shoe string fries” were nowhere near shoe string they were normal hand cut fries although still tasty. 3rd the grilled cheese with sour dough… the bread was so over cooked it was like eating cheese between two rocks. 4th.. for the love of god if you are going to make something spicy, please indicate that in the description… the briskest sandwich was my fourth choice but due to the lack of inventory it was what I ordered. I like spicy food at certain times, but I didn’t want it tonight. I took 3 bites of my $17 sandwich and flew in the flag. I’m not sure if the kitchen made it wrong, or if they lack on their food descriptions, but please understand if you’re going to serve something that burns someone’s tongue and lips to the point where they can’t taste your beer, at least add that to the description… not to mention the brisket was ice cold the second the sandwich was handed to me.
Tröegs is great for beer, but my impression on the food was for lack of a better word a “throw-away” and I would have upsettingly preferred stopping at a McDonalds instead.
Not to mention, my fiancées glass was chipped and she cut her lip drinking her beer. Not acceptable an acceptable standard for absolutely any establishment serving the public. I’ve included a pic although it’s hard to capture that on an iPhone. This post will most likely get buried but I hope a decision maker at this brewery will see this and actually take this seriously. I know I would.
Drink their beer, don’t eat their food. I hope they can prove otherwise because I’m...
