I’m sad to give this restaurant a low rating because it is one of the most beautiful environments. I just moved to the high desert and one of the things I left behind was the variety of amazing high class restaurant choices that I had previously. I lived in Sylmar so there were great choices in any direction from me, including in credible Mexican food. Now I’m not even remotely familiar with authentic Mexican food so I can’t review that specifically but I can say that this isn’t your “hole in the wall” food. I had looked at the menu beforehand so I knew it was going to be more upscale and therefore, much pricier. I didn’t expect it to be so….meh. I had the chicken enchiladas. They were plated beautifully and they weren’t bad but they just weren’t anything to write home about either. Again….meh. My fiancé had the ribeye and lobster. This was also plated beautifully. He said the lobster was good (I hate seafood so I didn’t try) and we both had the ribeye. He wasn’t impressed but I loved it (he is picky with ribeye). They forgot his tortillas and when we did get them, they were the wrong ones. Easy mistake…. That doesn’t bother me.
I had no idea about the entertainment on Thursday nights so that was a surprise. It was really loud but I didn’t care to have a conversation anyways so that didn’t bother me either. The band was wonderful.
It seemed that there were a few birthdays going on this night and the restaurant celebrates by coming out with fun blinking lights and high energy. I enjoyed that. Not sure everyone would but I like raves so flashing lights are always welcome to me. Lol 😂
They had a photographer and videographer going around all night. I thought this might be because of the birthdays or something but then the photographer came around and took our photos, which I thought was odd. Turns out, they come back with your framed photos to sell to you for $25 each. This felt incredibly tacky!!! I don’t do well under pressure and we bought one. This alone is something that would keep me from coming back. To put that pressure on a customer at dinner it’s just so weird. I’ve never had anything like that happen.
I knew the pricing was going to be high and was prepared for that… but again, food was just meh. OMG and the guac was soooooo tiny! They serve pork rinds with it, not chips. I get it…. They are a “fancy” but that was so disappointing. Even in other high class Mexican restaurants I’ve been to, there is the option for chips. I just wish I had known that before spending $14.
Overall…. Environment 9/10…. Lowering just because the photo sales are super weird. Food was 8/10 but pricing knocks it down a bit more and the lack of chips honestly ruins it for me.
The place seems like it’s more concerned with its social media presence…with all the beautifully plated food and such. But just not...
Read moreSeen a promotion on IG for Bichota paint night, so me and my friend signed up. We had to go in to pay before the event.
Day of event we went in, got there early cause we wanted to get good seats. Check in was easy. U have to scan a qr code on a cute little wooden heart for the menu. (I would prefer an actual menu, though). We had to wait a few minutes while they finished setting up. Then it was time, my friend and I were first, the rest followed behind and the hostess said it was open seating and we can sit anywhere. We picked our seats and were settling in, when another staff came and told us we had to move because the whole front table was reserved for a party. They moved us to the back, where one of us had our back to the painting. Neither my friend nor I wanted to sit there. They let us turn our small table horizontal. And we both sad on the bench. The actual party got there so late, we didnt start til almost 30 mins after the posted start time.
Took a while to get our complimentary glasses of wine. We had ordered margaritas in the meantime and food. It came sooo fast that we actually let it sit there until we were done with our painting. They also gave my friend chicken enchiladas, when she had ordered cheese, they fixed it right away, though.
Now the painting.. $40 for a glass of wine and to paint, seemed to be a decent price ( the most ive paid anywhere else and ive done close to 15 sip and paints), but then the painting canvas was like a small one with a pre-drawn picture in it, that we pretty much just had to color it in.
In comparison to some of the actual sip and paints I've been to this was far from what I expected and the price was not worth what I got. The artist, just started off by saying to paint the background and then that was it. She was good at entertaining and amping up the group, but I would never go do another sip and paint there.
My food was yummy, I had the sopes. It had chunks of chicken, i actually shredded it and took off almost half, but flavor was there. The margaritas, were fun to look at and cool for the ig shots, but taste could have been wayyy better. We had to ask a few times for napkins and even the group next to us asked us for napkins once we got them, because they didnt bring out any to tables.
With the painting, food, and drinks... it was hard to move things around because the tables in the back are small.
I ended up having to leave almost 3 hours in and got up to pay at the bar. As we're leaving the artist/host was bringing out hats for picture props and was going to do prizes. Sadly I couldn't stay. If the event had started on time, I would have been able to participate.
My friend and I still had fun, but the event was not worth the price. I would only go back to try different food, but...
Read moreDo come to this spot, I’ve traveled all over the globe from Japan to Finland and I’m a dude who was originally from Texas so I don’t say this lightly, this place is five star and gives a five star experience don’t let the location or somewhat rough exterior fool you this is a classy spot. I saw this place exiting the local target and when you walk through the door you are immediately immersed in this establishment charm. The lights are low and the windows light up the modern yet rustic interior. If you are a person who want to just enjoy food or have a great brunch dinner or breakfast this is the spot to relax and dine. If you fancy a drink they have a luxuriously stocked bar with tequilas lovers delight Clase Azul variety from the mezcal azul and much more. Yolanda was our server today and she was very attentive and kind and very informative on the food selection and was able to get the kitchen staff to make some incredible house salsas green habanero and a nice classic chile salsa. I ordered the lengua ranchera my wife got the shrimp ceviche my daughter got the chicken quesadilla and our appetizer was the best guacamole and pork chicharrones. Listen to say that this food was great is an understatement everything was seasoned and prepared to the nth degree. The appetizer has to have a local vendor for their avocados it was perfectly blended with the lime onions tomatoes and I believe mango the citrus was in sync and it just breathed freshness. My wife’s ceviche was beautiful and delicious with fresh shrimp avocados what I assume is a pickled onion and a spicy lime juice with their custom green tostada shells. My lengua was perfect the meat was perfectly cooked tender with green sauce I highly recommend you get the corn tortillas to make tacos. Lastly my daughter’s quesadillas was amazing the chicken cheese and perfectly crisped exterior made the bite amazing. All in all this is an awesome spot and my hat goes off to whoever though of this spot from the menu to the food and the set up of the restaurant makes this a very lovely and awesome place. So from eating to drinking or a spot to hang out and share some food this is the place. Also one of the key things to what I think makes this place successful the staff is happy in example I saw folks celebrate a birthday they danced and have the lights flashing for specific birthday celebration and a sound system that kicks. I also heard the kitchen staff singing in the back it was awesome for someone who cooks and travels I can say without a doubt when food is good it’s because the folks making it care and to hear them sing while they prep let’s you know these folks care. Thank you to the staff...
