I hate to give a low star review. In giving two stars today I feel I am being generous. However, my rating is based on what I have come to know as authentic Mexican food. This place to me and my tastes as well as my families taste is a throwback to some 1970's version of Mexican food.
I give one star for how clean the restaurant is. Extremely clean and a very nice decor. The tables are a bit small. The bar area is very nice. One negative is the light in the bathroom constantly turned off. It turned off on me five times while I was using it. Apparently you have to dance whilst doing your business so that the motion sensor will keep the light on for you.
I give one star for the wait staff. Friendly and attentive.
I take away three stars for the food and preparation:
My children ordered burritos. The did not want them "wet". Both asked for no sauce and no cheese on top. Both got cheese on top. To be fair the menu does state all burritos come wet. It doesn't seem like omitting sauce and cheese from the top of a burrito would be that tough though. My son ate all of the meat out of his burrito, he loves Al Pastor and he liked it . My daughter ate her whole burrito, she said the meat was plain but tender. Neither kid ate breakfast. Both said they would not want to go back if it was their choice.
My wife had taquitos. She felt like the shredded beef had no flavor. She also thought the guacamole tasted watery.
I ordered the fiesta platter, a giant appetizer with enough food to feed four or five people. It came with taquitos, flautas, quesadilla, hot wings, nachos, potato skins, beans, sour cream and guacamole. The price on this was very good for the amount of food you get. The problem was everything was so plain. The guacamole did seem watery and bland. Plain avocado slices would have more flavor. I'm not sure how someone could mess up avocado/guacamole but they did. Nothing was seasoned. I had to ask for hot sauce. The brought a house made salsa and Tapatio. The house salsa was a dark salsa made from tomatillos and chili pepper. It had the most flavor of anything we tried. It was very fruity and not spicy. It needed some salt, onion, cilantro and more chili. The wings are seasoned before frying. They were very crispy. Wings that are seasoned before frying are generally frozen wings. I'm guessing that's true here as well. The potato skins come topped with shredded beef and cheese. I had a huge gush of grease come out on first bite. These seemed to be deep fried. With Tapatio and salt they were good. I suspect the actual potato skins were a frozen food product.
Chips and salsa. This is the cornerstone dish of most Mexican food restaurants. The chips are made from a box of thin precut tortillas and are pretty standard. The salsa needed seasoning and some heat. Just plain. I added salt and it helped some. Good chips and salsa can cover a lot of sins in a restaurant but these were just average.
Now the portion sizes, the amount of cheese, is all very good. There is a market for this type of Mexican food and if you are part of that market my review won't make sense to you. If you like authentic flavorful Mexican food you should...
Read moreUsed to love it here and come frequently to the Hesperia and Wrightwood locations. However, today, upon entrance to the establishment I was greeted by an untrained host who proceeded to tell me my service dog “didn’t look like” a service dog and would need to call his manager. He continued to berate us and instead of calling his manager he stood at his computer sending an order. Now I understand a lot of people attempt to portray household pets off as service animals and it is making it more and more difficult for establishments, however, one asking me if he was indeed a service dog and me stating yes and that the service he provides is seizure alert for my epilepsy that should have been the end of it. I have come multiple times with the exact same dog who accompanies me everywhere including theme parks and airlines and have never been made to feel so discriminated against. Please if you have a service animal be prepared if coming to this Establishment, I was so humiliated I wanted to cry. Please see attached photo of the dog who “doesn’t look like” a service dog laying under the table as he is...
Read moreI ordered Wings and the waitress asked me if i wanted them Beef or Chicken. ????? I should of left then and there. Got wings smaller than my thumb cooked in dirty oil. Ordered 6 butterfly shrimp ala cart for $22 dollars. SIX burnt hard nasty shrimp by themselves for $22 dollars. Should be ashamed of yourself for bringing me burnt shrimp at that price. Ordered the Fiesta platter and got something that looked like a Fiesta Splatter. SMH!! A tray wrapped in foil paper with nachos that looked like chilaquiles topped with some flavorless taquitos, a quesadilla, and some more wings. A total mess brought to me by the manager himself. You should be ashamed of yourself. How could u serve a customer such a sloppy dish. I could tell you dont care what you serve in that restaurant as long as the money comes in. This is not Mexican food cause they dont care what they serve here. and Caring is the number One ingredient in Mexican food. No se aproveche de que su clientela son Americanos ya mayores que talvez no saben lo que es verdadera...
