The name is French (it means “Yum”), the owner is Albanian, and the cuisine is largely American (with a few Mediterranean influences), but no matter what you call it, Miam has all the makings of a very solid breakfast/brunch option. It opened recently in the former Cagney’s location near the Palladium, a spacious building with plenty of seating. Paintings for sale by local artists adorn the walls, and the interior is bright and clean.
Miam has no shortage of breakfast options, including lighter and (very few) gluten free offerings. Amid the various permutations of eggs/meat/bread, you’ll find plenty that looks familiar (omeletes, waffles, benedicts, etc.) as well as a few dishes that set Miam apart such as blueberry hushpuppies. Miam is also one of the few places in the area to offer a Monte Cristo on the daily menu.
While this variety is definitely appreciated, some of Miam’s naming conventions are idiosyncratic to say the least. The Mexican omelet is called The Mixture, and while The Island calls to mind Hawaiian, here it’s corned beef…with brie in place of cheddar (?!). This was too much of a curiosity to pass up, so I went with the Island and home fries while my wife opted for Red, White, and Blue French Toast.
Both meals hit the spot. The French Toast, which gets its name from the strawberry/blueberry/banana topping, was served on thick bread with fresh fruit. The omelet – meat, caramelized onions, spinach, and tomatoes inside/melted brie on top – was cooked to an appealing golden brown. The corned beef seemed to be made in-house, thankfully (the canned stuff ranges from passable to revolting), and the brie added creaminess to each bite. The home fries were nothing fancy, but they were nice and crispy.
Though Miam was decently busy when we arrived, we didn’t have to wait for a table, nor was the wait for our food terribly long. Bishma provided attentive service throughout the meal though I did have to wait longer than expected for the check. Miam’s prices are slightly higher relative to Cagney’s (our dishes were $12 apiece), but you do get plenty of food for your money.
Every so often, “Where can I get a good breakfast?” makes its rounds in local social media groups, and while the same few reliable options that get trotted out each time shouldn’t be dropped, Miam should definitely be added to that...
Read moreMy friend and I were very excited about dining at Miam. We were greeted with a warm welcome and the atmosphere was great. Everything took a turn for the worse for us toward the end. I found a hair in my hash browns and I bought it to the attention of our waiter. Who refers me to the restaurant manager. He comes over and looks at the hair, take his fingers and removes the hair from the hash browns. He they looked at my friend and I and said how do I know if this isn’t your hair. I replied to him this is not about a free meal. I just wanted to make you aware of the fact that I found Hair in my hash brown. He goes on with a long story about how people would lie, then goes as far as to show us a video of a black guy, pulling hair out of his head to drop in his food. At that point, I felt disrespected, and I felt as if because of my nationality that he was trying to show us,that this is what black people will do.I look at him and said I’m finished with this conversation ,as I said to you in the beginning, I wanted to bring this to your attention. I am not looking for a free meal. He interned say to me…Well, you two ladies look like you are nice ladies, so I will give you 15% off of your meal. I looked at him and said please bring me my bill and no thank you for your 15% off, but I will not be back. I also pointed out to him that there are cameras all over the dining room. Please go and check your cameras to see, if we would stoop that low to pull hair out of our head in order to get a free meal. He replied, I will and walk off.,as we checked out that once friendly staff became...
Read moreI wanted to like this more. This restaurant was recently updated or renamed and I had been to the previous version once with pleasant enough results. The online photos looked great and I'll admit, the food looked good. However, the actual food did not live up to its appearance. I was excited for my French toast on challah bread, two thick slices-yum? So disappointed when I cut into it and found it to be challah bread that was briefly introduced to the egg batter and slapped on the grill to get pretty--French toast should be way more saturated with the mix and grilled into gooey, eggy goodness. My spouse had steak and eggs and found the 6 oz sirloin cooked medium to be chewy and forgettable. Our eggs were done as ordered but lacked any sort of flavor. The atmosphere is typical family friendly brunch locale but the tables are poorly positioned (read 'too close together') and my chair got bumped into pretty solidly about a dozen times during our meal by both servers and patrons. We saw at least two tables near us that had to return food or get a manager over issues with food and/or slow service. Our server was friendly and checked in often with coffee but the runner who brought the food handed my spouse's plate across the table instead of setting it down in front of him without warning the plate was more than a little warm. It almost wound up in his lap. All in all, disappointed and we won't back, there's too many...
