(4.5 stars) Lose one bakery, gain another. The same weekend that Amorosoâs shuttered its Palladium location, Sweet Dough opened its doors a short hop down 68 next to Small Batch. Early impressions are favorable. Sweet Doughâs storefront is bright and clean with plenty of seating. The bakery cases proudly display a variety of goodies from cupcakes and cakes to cinnamon rolls to pies to puddings. Though sold by the slice, whole cakes and pies are available, too. The drinks menu boasts hot and cold coffees as well as milkshakes and floats.
For my first visit, I picked up banana pudding and a slice of key lime pie to share as well as a white chocolate mocha frappe. Pie prices run a bit high here ($5.50 for a not-huge slice), but there was otherwise no room for complaint. The staff were welcoming, and they will customize coffee drinks to your liking.
Both of the desserts went over well. If âbanana puddingâ calls to mind a bright yellow, artificially flavored paste, prepared to be amazed by how much better an authentic version can be. Here, itâs lighter and laden with real banana. The key lime pie was likewise legit, bringing just the right amount of tartness.
Though its locationâs previous tenants didnât have much staying power, Sweet Doughâs tantalizing selection of caringly crafted baked goods is reason to hope for...
Read moreWe went to sweet dough bake shop and ordered 6 cupcakes. 1) Red velvet: the cake part was a bit bland but the cream cheese frosting had a well-balanced flavor. 2.6/5. 2) Peanut butter chocolate: did not really hit the mark on the flavor profile. The chocolate cake base was a bit dry and bland and the peanut butter chocolate frosting was a bit too sweet..lacking the sweet & salty combination desired. 2.1/5. 3) blueberry lemon: this one was my favorite. The flavor was light but the frosting was nice and I recommend eating the lemon slice with it too! 2.9/5. 4) carrot cake: this one was okay. A bit dry and bland again. 2.4/5. 5) floral: not my style. Lacked the flavor profile one expects from a traditional sheet cake. 1.9/5. 6) death by chocolate: unfortunately, this was the worst of the bunch and I had the highest hopes for. The chocolate cake was a bit bland and the chocolate frosting tasted veryâŠsynthetic. 1.4/5. The service itself was nice! The bakery attendant accidentally dropped two of the cupcakes but replaced them right away! Overall, I would go back to try some of the other items because they looked amazing, but Iâd pass on the cupcakes. I expected more from $4+...
Read moređStop what youâre doing right now and go to Sweet Dough Bake Shop!! Seriously the best bakery Iâve ever been to.
From the time I walked in to the time I walked out then back in again because the sweets were so nice I had to go twice! Literally went back to my car to get more money to share this deliciousness with my fiancĂ©. So when I walked in one of the owners (Ray) greeted me instantly and made me feel so welcomed. He told me about the sweet treats and what was just baked fresh and gave me a choice on which piece I wanted. Literally asked if I wanted the center, edge or corner piece of the butter bar I ordered. I mean service doesnât get better than that people. Not to mention when I went back in Ray gave me fist dips on the cinnamon rolls that just came out the oven and an extra treat on the house. He and his wife Tracey (who I got to meet and was in the back baking!) own this beautiful bakery and when I tell you they both made my day! Going into this bakery and meeting Ray and Tracey was the best part of my day. I couldnât stop smiling and congratulating them for their success. My...
