Greensboro firefighter Daniel Gray and his wife set up shop in this spot off Hickswood Road a few years back and have attracted quite a following since. If nothing else, the assortment justifies the hype. Uncle Cheesecake offers cheesecakes (including keto-friendly), cupcakes, bites, brownies, cake pops, dessert tacos (!!), lemonades, and slushies in a variety of flavors, several of which (such brownie bottom choco strawberry cheesecake and cherry Cheerwine cupcakes) are rarely found elsewhere. Anyone with a sweet tooth may have a hard time making decisions here.
The cheesecake here is on the tangy side, which may surprise those expecting something sweeter. This actually allows the flavors of the toppings to shine, and in most cases the combinations work well. The cupcakes are more of a hit (the aforementioned Cheerwine) or miss (strawberry daquiri ā it sounds better on paper) affair, but the weekly BOGO nights are conducive to trying out different flavors.
Inside, the bakery has little ambiance to speak of, which is hardly an issue given the amount of takeout business during a pandemic. Of a potentially greater concern: the number of maskless folks (owner included) you may encounter in a smallish space (though in fairness, this may not have been reflective of their norm).
Alex Amoroso continues to hold the Triadās cheesecake crown, but Uncle Cheesecake should not be overlooked as an alternative. A multitude of fun flavors and dessert options make it...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePBS-TV was fooled by Uncle Cheesecake. We drove an hour to try the delicious looking desserts on a Saturday at 3 pm with hours open 10 am to 10 pm. We were greeted by a very unwelcoming girl behind the counter who said there was no lemonade and no drip cakes which were items we were hoping to try. There were maybe 10 cupcakes left (we bought 3) and maybe 2 dozen cheesecake slices to choose from. We bought 2 slices to eat "in-store" but the unfriendly girl only had 1 fork in the store so I went to the Sammy's Tavern next door who graciously gave us another fork. Ridiculous and insulting service at Uncle Cheesecake. It definitely was not worth the 1 hour drive. The desserts were tasty but I can get some just as tasty where I live. The "icing on the cake" was the Bible verse Ecclesiastes 9:7 written on 2 walls. Surely Christians don't do...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was so excited to try this place. My daughter told me about Uncle Cheesecake coming to her school so I wanted to support their business. Unfortunately upon arrival my excitement turned to disappointment. Customer Service was Poor. It wasn't clean. Inside the refrigerated case it wasn't clean and had water leaking in it under the cheesecake containers. We ordered 2 cheesecakes slices a strawberry shortcake cheesecake and carrot cake cheesecake. They were old tasting and the carrot cake cheesecake tasted like pumpkin with a hardened top from being refrigerated for days. We sat down the table was covered with garbage bags. We left with stomachaches and disappointed. We really wanted our money back. We will not be returning. Please visit this place before blindly ordering so you can see the quality of the desserts. And where it's being made....
