Huge disappointment at University Diner unfortunately.
We had dinner last night and it was mind-blowingly delicious. Absolute perfection.
So we see on the menu, the back, that breakfast is served til 2pm. So we decide to come back today for breakfast! Using the only information we have access to.
First it was a disaster with seating and waiting. I'll wait 30 mins for a table, but I wondered why there's 8 empty tables and we're all still waiting. Then we observe the table being sat before us being asked if they would prefer a booth or a table. When it was our turn to be sat, even though there were two tables completely empty and available, we were not asked this question and were sat at an itty bitty booth. When asked to move to a table we were told multiple times none were available which seems silly because yes they were. The manager then also hesitated and tried to pretend there were no tables (two clearly empty beside the folks asked which they prefer).
And then the punchline. Our waitress comes to take our order and surprise - they stop serving breakfast at 11am on Sunday. Weird choice, not sure if it's only Sunday. But there is nothing on the menu or inside the restaurant. Telling me you plan to change the menu doesn't help me NOW!
The manager was not ever helpful in any way, complete mess and then this bait and switch breakfast nonsense.
Mega disappointment for somewhere with the best diner food around. One day I may try it again but maybe when they're not more chaotic than a...
Read moreWe have been frequent patrons of University Kitchen for years, so we were excited when its sister location, University Diner, opened 5 minutes from where we live.
At first, we were super pleased. The food was hot and fresh and just as tasty as the Kitchen. I have eaten at the Diner probably 15-20 times since it opened earlier this year.
Recently, some of the food has not been up to the same quality as that from the Kitchen. The Kitchen has the best homemade marinara sauce (for spaghetti) and barbecue sauce (for ribs), but they no longer taste the same at the Diner, so clearly the Diner’s recipe has changed….if it’s even still homemade. My sister noticed the same thing about the marinara, and I hadn’t even said anything to her about it. The mac & cheese served today was dry and appeared to be reheated leftovers, not freshly made. It’s ALWAYS hot and fresh at the Kitchen. There are inconsistencies in other food items, as well. Super disappointing.
We would rather drive an extra 10 minutes to eat at the Kitchen, knowing their food is always consistent and delicious. I hope the Diner will make some improvements in their execution of food preparation, because we would like to see this location succeed.
I will add that the staff are always friendly and attentive (mostly), and the atmosphere is attractive and clean. Very pleasant...
Read moreWe tried this location after eating at the University kitchen in high point and loving it. We had high expectations based on said previous experience. As soon as we stepped into the restaurant we were met with cold and disinterested staff who gave the impression that we were annoying them for eating here. Once seated, we were greeted unclearly (I couldn’t not tell what the servers name was, I think it would probably be a good idea to include name tags). The food took a good while to get to the table, it looked good but did not meet expectations flavor wise. Once we were ready to pay, the person at the counter continued the cold behavior. The only excuse I could think of for this behavior would be that it was close to closing, however I believe that that’s is a stretch because we left 15 before they closed. Mostly it was just an uncomfortable and...
