Maybe I have too high of expectations but I have been to many Mexican restaurants from California all the way through the coast to Washington and never had been stopped from getting more salsa without a $2.00 charge, these bowls are pretty small to be charging $2.00 for another mini bowl of salsa. Let’s add this up. The atmospheres is only as good as the service, and the service is very poor! Did not get more chips, had to ask, did not get any more salsa I had to ask, needed salt had to ask. If the service is poor, then the atmosphere is poor! Then we have to look at the food. One of the reasons I needed more salsa is because the food was slightly dry so I wanted the salsa to pour over the burrito and the rice to have a little bit more flavor, The rice was pretty bland. This was our third attempt because I was optimistically thinking this place has to be better than my last visit but it’s very very disappointing! How does this place have such a decent rating with a guy that doesn’t even engage with customers and good being pretty bland.
If you’re new here to Hillsboro there are better places to eat than here. Try Peppers Mexican grill on Baseline, good food and very friendly staff.
Don’t waist your money or time for dinner. Maybe a good quick lunch place at best not to expecting service or tasty food.
The owner SEEMS to care with his responses but see reviews, he doesn’t take accountability for experiences. He also dismisses many many low star reviews as if it only one opinion but there are too many to ignore. Also I never ask for free food I just describe what I see and taste but this owner again is trying to excuse my low star review as a reason to ignore. Also my wife’s stomach did not feel good when we got home and honestly either does mine!
Both the locations are mediocre at best. This review is not to put this place down it is just an opinion of mid to low quality service and low quality taste.
There are places I highly recommend as they have GREAT service and good to great food like the Margarita factory. The service is amazing there and UNLIMITED salsa if you want it. The server named Blas will become your best friend. Other restaurants really care about great customer service. Unlike Amelia’s who our server stopped the kind lady from bringing us more salsa.
I have over 72 million views of my photos so there must be some credibility to what I see and write. I have never thought of myself as a food critic I am just your normal guy who loves good food and good service.
Cannot recommend this place.
(Previous visits) We had high expectations for this place based on the ratings but it was kind of forgettable but I will try again to make sure I didn’t miss anything. The service is ok or below average, chips and salsa was pretty good. Off format dining area but has decent seating. Not a personable place to eat, no greetings no conversation or friendliness just a simple meal which deters me from going back but I will give it another opportunity.
At this point I cannot recommend this place unless you are very hungry and want a large...
Read moreEDIT: 05/10/2025 It seems as though the owner has no idea of the things going on in their own restaurant. This houseless person did place an order, payed for it, and was escorted out by employees! Way to deflect from the other issues I mentioned as well! This is not an exquisite dining experience, the staff do not care about you, and most certainly don’t believe in making situations right. I still have yet to be apologized too for our horrible experience. The owners reply is just deflecting from the situation once again and trying to make excuses. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!
We came in at about 4:50PM. This was our second time coming here. We had the same server as the first time. We were the only people eating in this establishment at this time. The waiter took our order and the food was fast to come out. The food was delicious however the service was beyond terrible. Shortly after being here a women was seated outside with her dog. Our server did not check in with us once. He however did proceed to check in with the women outside a few times and give her a to go box and check. we were ignored and not checked in with once to see if we needed anything. We sat patiently waiting for our server to bring our check and to go boxes at one point just staring at them waiting. We were blatantly ignored the whole time. Not one offered for drink refills or more chips. nothing. On top of that a houseless person came in, not one waiter greeted him or asked if he needed anything. They ignored him until he asked if he could order something and the first thing anyone said was “do you have money to order something”. Absolutely horrible! They didn’t ask me if i had money to pay for my food and they actually spoke to me when I entered their establishment. It’s obvious this staff has to deal with houseless people a lot but have some decency and be polite! I asked to speak with a manager but apparently they don’t have a manager. They also don’t have a phone number for any supervisor, manager, or owner. Apparently our waiter had left and the other waiter figured he had already closed out our table but we had been sitting there for 30 minutes already waiting. Plus this waiter that claimed the women outside was his table didn’t even seat her or give her the menu or take her order, our waiter did! Horrible service and we will not be...

I worked directly with Benjamin and the issue has been resolved. Management investigated my concern in a timely manner, and they believe there was a bad batch of avocados. I was issued a check for the total I spent and received a gift card to use later. I was told the staff that normally works, was pulled for a catering event. Benjamin went above and beyond to make the issue right and was kind throughout the whole process. Based on my experience with him, I believe they have a wonderful staff, and the temporary staff onsite was not how they normally operate. I look forward to using my gift card later. Thank you for taking ownership of your error and making a horrible situation a lot better.
Original review (below):
I had high hopes for Amelia’s Exquisite Mexican restaurant that fell flat this weekend! If you’re looking for an environment that is welcoming, I suggest you look elsewhere. From start to finish it was horrible and very disappointing. The staff seemed bothered by the request to sit outside to enjoy the sun. Close your patio if you don’t want people requesting to sit outdoors.
The waiter was rude and literally had nothing to offer when I asked for recommendations on the menu and a margarita. When our appetizer arrived, I had to go inside to ask for plates to eat the appetizer. Keep in mind I was also handed the menu/silverware and told to seat myself. I had to ask twice for salsa to enjoy the chips and appetizer. He never came out once to check on me, or to see if I needed anything. The bill was brought out and I again had to ask for a pen. If the experience above was not enough – I felt horrible all day with stomach issues. I randomly mentioned this to my friend, and she experienced the same issue and felt crummy. I suggest driving the 5-minutes down the road to a place called Pepper’s Mexican Grill. You will be greeted by staff that want you in their establishment and food that is next level fantastic.
I hope this establishment takes this feedback to heart and cuts a few of the bad apples out of the picture. I’m not buying into this “tip culture” and tipped myself for all the work I did, seating myself, getting my plate and pen. ...
