Big River Coffee — Restaurant in Hillsboro

While I am not the most particular in terms of my coffee tastes, I’d say the demands to meet my level of satisfaction for coffee goes well above the average Starbucks. Big River coffee delivers in many areas, while also leaves room for some improvements. The taste of the coffee was among the highest I’ve had, even in the Portland metro area, which is an impressive feat in itself. The atmosphere and vibe of the building and staff are also quite immaculate. The wood aesthetic and high ceilings combined with the glass windows and spacious table area all combine to make a real comfortable vibe. The drive through is also impressive at a location this size! The service is about what one would expect at a coffee shop such as this. All the staff wore smiles (which was impressive for my 6:30am coffee run) and were hospitable and friendly. Finally, I’d say the one piece this coffee shop could improve on is the price of their coffee. While I think it is not the most wallet friendly, you certainly receive a quality product and service for what you pay for. I do not feel that this place is “overpriced” as another comment reads, though I definitely think it could be improved on. Overall, I give this coffee shop 5 gold stars. I have mixed feelings on this review and it really bums me out.

I've been coming to the Big River on TV Hwy on and off since it opened a few months ago. It's been a nice alternative to the overly crowded local Insomnia locations whose customer service is often hit or miss, and it's also been a great alternative to the local Black Rock drive-throughs. A chain that has become increasingly corporate as it has grown and expanded, retaining little of what made it special compared to say, Dutch Bros... It's still good for what it is, but as a patron for many years, the change is undeniable. Plus it's just a drive-through.

But I digress. Back to Big River.

Five stars for the coffee, the atmosphere, and the customer service at Big River. The ambiance feels more like a place you'd find in Central Oregon, rather than the Portland suburbs, so that alone makes it special...

However, and this a big however... They raised prices overnight between 08/06/2024 to 08/07/2024.

Case in point: A medium blended mocha went from $6.00 to $7.50.

An increase of $1.50. OVERNIGHT.

That is absurd.

It's all a matter of value and what a person is willing to pay for; that's up to each individual, of course. But rather than raising prices incrementally, they surged - overnight - without any warning. Zero stars... As a consumer, that's just insulting.

Overall, a very disappointing turn of events for what had been a promising, excellent...

I’ve watched this place break ground what feels like ages ago. Sitting right between the Chick-Fil-a on one side, and my favorite Kaddy car wash on the other…. I was pleasantly surprised to see a coffee shop being built.

First time coming in, about a week after its grand opening. The first thought was “I wish this was open sooner when I was studying for my exams.” There’s an upstairs area with plenty of seats and tables, as well as a cozy downstairs area right next to a fireplace.

As of writing this on October 28 at 3pm, there are about 4 different people on their laptops up here. Downstairs there are two. It looks cozy. I will say, being upstairs, there’s a lot of noise that travels up here because it’s above the coffee making… so bring headphones if that bothers you.PLENTY of windows for beautiful natural lighting. It was probably the first thing I saw.

I’m not a huge coffee drinker, so I opted to try their gelato. I got the chocolate flavor and it was rich and delicious. Would come again and try the affogato.

Plenty of parking at this time in their free parking lot, they also have a drive through. Upstairs seating has no handicap access, but plenty of space downstairs too.
