I have been here several times (20 times at least), and have mixed reviews. It probably depends on who is at the register. The main restaurant (not the express grill) is beyond excellent, and beyond what I could ask for. And also closes pretty late -- which is great. Authentic food, delicious and quick. I don't really care if every single table isn't perfectly clean every single time. That's for the first-world-born cry-baby folks. You just get your food, and sit in whichever table you want among whichever one they have cleaned, that's it. This main restaurant is something i would call as truly authentic Mexican food. I also like the fact that they don't have a waiter that requires you to sit at a very specific table, where you end up waiting (and wasting) a long time for that waiter to finally serve you. You can sit wherever you want. And it's seriously faster without a waiter (which is a big plus). Like, almost as fast as fast-food. Even, I have gotten great food at express grill earlier, but not these days. The guy manager standing here currently cuts all the corners and cheapens it beyond what would have been okay (after already increasing the prices of all the items). Nope. If it's him, I would readily avoid if i can. If it's some other employee at the register in the express grill, you may get generous portions of nice food, without cutting any corners. Perhaps, you can totally ignore the express grill, and always go at a time when the main restaurant is open. The two stars is for the express grill alone (but I would give five stars or more for the main...
Read moreI had the combination #1 with enchiladas and tacos because I’ve had the same combo at the Ochoa food truck. It was not the same. The enchiladas were good and the tacos were ok but the rice had zero flavor.
What was notable was all of the dirty tables. They were sticky and the dining area smelled kind of bad. Like mold.
Also, I asked for red salsa only and was charged $3.50 for three 1oz ramekins of salsa and three wedges of lime then given tomatillo salsa anyway even after paying extra for only red. The service at the register was pretty bad, so I didn’t even bother asking for the right salsa. It was such a turn off and we won’t return.
I’m not sure who uses only 2 ounces of salsa for three enchiladas and two tacos, but not me. Rather than pay an extra $3.50 for the wrong salsa, I’ll just go where they clean the...
Read moreUsed to love this place. I brought my friends. Last few times, servers acted like they could care less. Asked for some more salsa for my chips, they brought me more chips and more salsa. 6.50. They said that's what they charged. Wouldn't change it. The soup had the minimum amount of meat allowed by law before it becomes a bowl of warm water on two occasions.
I did notice that they had a guy that looked like a chef in the kitchen most times I was there but wasn't there the last two times I came. He is bilingual and very friendly and makes sure everything is just right. My advice, call ahead to see if he is going to be there, otherwise there is Juan Colorado's, not as authentic, but always great food, great service and they speak...
