Jacks Restaurant — Restaurant in Hillsborough

Terrible experience! It started off ok but u found a hair in my food. I’ve worked in restaurant industry and these things happen. So I asked for a new plate. The lady kept saying I don’t see any hair so I took the fork and showed her. Now I hadn’t even taken a bite out of the food before I found it in my corn. So no problem just new plate without corn. She gets 1/2 way through with making my new plate and my 5 month old starts crying so she said she would bring it to me. So it comes back and the hair is now in my BBQ. She took the fork that had the hair (that I was showing her) and slid the bbq onto the new plate with it. At this point I was like look I’m not eating here. I came with my papa and my son. We were getting a Togo plate and so she said just pay when you order that. I told her I would pay for my 4 year olds grilled cheese and fries as well as my papas plate and the drinks. How about this lady asks me well aren’t you going to pay for yours? Ummm… the 2 plates that I never touched that both had hair on them… literally not even a bite. Absolutely not. She then tried to say it was my sons hair. It was a dark curly hair. My son has brown hair that’s straight… no way was it anyone at our table. She then asked well was there a hair in your tea as well. I said no. I don’t mind paying for my tea even though I hadn’t even drank out of it…. I just simply wasn’t going to get a Togo plate or pay for mine that I couldn’t touch.

I then told her I needed the breakdown of what she was charging me because I knew she was going to charge me for the plate I couldn’t eat.

$1.79 (3 drinks)- NO problem $5.49 grilled cheese-ok $5.49 (sons French fries… that went with his grilled cheese) wtf 8.69- meatloaf & 2 sides

Tell me this lady didn’t charge me for the 3rd plate. I highly recommend not going here! Everything was fine until I found the hair. I was super respectful trying to tell her not around other customers. She then blamed me not once but 2x! If she would have gotten a brand new plate with brand new silverware and new food this wouldn’t have happened… she said well there was nothing wrong with the BBQ off your old plate… other than the fact you used the fork that I moved the hair with so she could see it and placed it on the new plate moving the hair to the new plate! I started eating at Jacks restaurant when they were located on old 70. Then the White's bought or rented the building and jacks moved to where they are at now. I've eaten at Jack's since 1987 or it could have been 1988. But I'm hear to tell you, it's country cooking and you feel like your grandma is back cooking you breakfast and lunch. If you have noticed that the old Jack's restaurant address is no longer there and it's a B.P. gas convenience store. I'm coming back to eat at Jack's soon. Be honest with you, i really have forgotten about Jack's because i live off old 10 the Durham area. I'm happy i ran across this.. I read a few descriptions of this place but here’s my version; I came here for breakfast, but that changed. The set up is alicart and it’s presented as soon as you come in. They had baked chicken quarters w/ Bbq sauce, meatloaf (that looked very tender) roast beef w/bbq sauce, greens, instant potatoes, baked sweet potatoes, corn and more. I went for the roast beef, greens and asked for a sweet potato- instead she put mashed potatoes then asked if I wanted gravy, I said no ma’am I wanted a sweet potato and she just put the gravy on and told me the price, I understand there’s a bit of a language barrier ( I think their culture is Japanese) My guess is they probably did a lot of cooking for our military from where they came from, let me tell ya they really know southern cooking/ home style cooking very well.
