Second review. We decided to try this place again and ordered take out. She again went for the Veggie Fajita and I went with Vallarta and also ordered a Med size Mild Salsa since that is what she really likes. She liked her Fajita it was filled with yummy veggies and I liked the Vallarta, the pineapple bits with the shrimp, scallops and chicken actually went well with it. When you pick up your order they have it tightly wrapped in a bag so I asked since we bought a Med Salsa in addition do we get extra chips ...NO you have to buy them she said....hmmm. BUT it didn't matter because when we got home and unpacked our order there WASN'T the Medium (8oz) Mild Salsa that we PAID for!! The ONE thing she specifically asked for. NO... NOT in our order. I can't write what she said. Disappointed isn't the word.
This was our first review. Was very optimistic about the new location, we went on Friday night so it was busy as expected so there was a small wait. Seated in a booth, wobbly table, so I shoved a napkin under one leg to stabilize it. Warm chips and chilled salsa showed up as did our sodas. Waitress was, well... dull and that's ok except we had to tell her our order twice. I got the Macho Burrito and asked for extra Pico de gallo on it and my wife ordered a Veggie Fajita, less onion, more tomatoes. So the wait began, and waited...and waited. Two salsas and two basket of chips later our dinner came. No, tortillas for her, and I got a huge side of Pico, just wanted some more on the burrito. The Fajita was ghastly to say the least, actually looked like a hot pan was laid on top of it. What gets me is where is the pride? The Cook and Server both had to see it, right? Yet there it is, repulsive. Yeah had to ask for another, wasn't much better. Thoroughly...
Read moreHands down, Pueblo Viejo is the best Mexican food around (or at least in Hillsborough/Durham/Mebane area). I am always greeted with a smile and a friendly atmosphere. I cannot figure out why there are so many negative reviews (I assume it’s due to ordering cheap/plain menu items or coming during busy hours) when they have great service and jumbo margaritas in addition to well-seasoned, DELICIOUS food. If anything, they are better than ever at their new location and I’ve been eating at their restaurant for over 10+ years. It’s one of the true gems of Hillsborough.
The white salsa is something I’ve never had at another Mexican restaurant and one of the reasons I keep returning (imagine like a spicy/creamy bold ranch); the red salsa is good too and well blended, not chunky (personal preference). My menu recommendations are the “pollo chipotle” or “ribeye steak and shrimp”. I usually add green peppers, onions, and mushrooms as both come with rice/beans, guacamole salad, and tortillas. Basically like fajitas, but elevated. Any of their signature menu items are worth the price. They serve hefty dinner portions so it’s really two meals for like $15 bucks. It’s safe to say I eat here at least once a week and will continue to do so since they never disappoint. If you’re not a fan, Taco Bell is literally right across the street as well as like 5 taco trucks that are posted up in the area, but none hold a candle to...
Read morewell, I had the fajita quesdilla, it was amazing, I thought. My Husband had the Chipotle Shrimp dish and he said it was OK. Queso was ok, could have used more flavor or something. Had we had good service this place would have gotten a lot more stars. I'm hesitant to even give them 3! but I really liked my quesadilla.
We went on a Monday night - I am not even sure who our server was - the bartend, and un enthusiastic dark haired girl, who I think was american but could never really hear her speak, came and got our drinks, then disappeared entirely. I think she may have also been bartending because she was chillin at the bar area a lot but not moving very fast.
Someone else brought us chips and salsa. We had to get the (very nice) manager to take our food order. The hostess was kind enough to get us drink refils, and another time another server got us more water. My husband didn't get his flour tortillas with his meal - which its hard to eat wtihout, and I didn't get my sourcream. We tracked down someone for the tortillas but I never received my sourcream.
I am not sure we will be back with so many other options in the area I wouldn't want to risk getting service like this again. This was on a Monday night, so I can't imagine what a weekend would look like.
Also, they don't have outdoor seating like one reviewer...
