My wife and I visited One Hot Mama's one lazy Monday. We arrived a few minutes before noon and there were several tables and booths available for seating, both indoor and outdoor. We chose indoor and were escorted to a booth with seating for 4-6 people, depending on size. Our food server soon arrived. She was friendly, welcomed us, asked if we had any questions with the menu, and took our drink orders. I ordered an iced tea and my wife had lemonade. The beverages were served in modest plastic drinking glasses with straws, which fit the vibe of the restaurant perfectly: comfortable and casual. My wife said that her lemonade was good, and my iced tea was crisp and clear, not bitter or cloudy. For lunch my wife ordered a lunch special, which consisted of a meat choice along with a choice of three sides. She chose pulled pork with mac and cheese, collard greens, and baked beans. I chose a different lunch special that came with a meat choice and a salad. I chose smoked fried chicken with a chicken pecan salad. We both sampled from each other's plates, and enjoyed everything we ate. The pulled pork was pulled well, with no globs of fat that needed to be manually removed. The smoked fried chicken was moist with a pleasant smoky flavor. The chicken pecan salad had mandarin oranges, strawberries, pecans, chicken, and crunchy noodles served with romaine lettuce with an interesting citrus vinaigrette dressing. The dressing was tangy-sweet and complemented the salad perfectly. Of the three sides that my wife ordered, I enjoyed the collard greens the most. The baked beans were good, but not so exceptional that they were a "must order" for future trips. The mac and cheese was also good, with the cheese velvety smooth in a way that reminded me of processed cheese (which is not a bad thing, in my opinion, for mac and cheese). Both meals also came with a slice of cornbread drizzled with honey. It was very good! We felt that the price for lunch was fair given the amount and quality of food that was served. All in all, we enjoyed the atmosphere, the friendliness and helpfulness of the food server, as well as the quality of the food. It will definitely be a place that we add to our rotation of...

Read moreMy friend and I were excited to try this place as it has good reviews and we like BBQ. On arrival the place had a great vibe, what you'd expect for an American BBQ joint.
Initially our server seemed friendly enough and recommended that the place was known for its brisket, pulled pork and wings.
Although the rating I gave the place is low, credit where credit is due, the starters we got were good. Mac'n'cheese bites and chilli cheese fries. These were both delicious.
For main I had pulled pork and beef brisket with jalapeno corn bread with stuffing and mash & gravy. The mash and gravy, again was delicious. The corn bread was okay. The pulled pork was pretty tasteless until overloading it with the table BBQ sauce. The brisket I did not enjoy, it was nearly all fat and that was the only taste it left in the mouth. A shame as the little meat that was present pulled apart wonderfully.
The big issue with the food was the chicken my friend ordered. It came out bleeding near the bone.
This is when the service plummeted too. When this was politely pointed out, our server stated "it's okay because it's smoked" In a dismissive tone. When we explained that the chicken was not edible if it's bleeding she continued to be dismissive and offered to "take it away". I had to ask her to replace it with something else (beef brisket) which she did. She then charged the additional $2 for upgrading the plate to beef brisket, not something I perceive to be good practice after potentially poisoning a customer.
The overall experience with the food and attitude of staff left a lot to be desired. Not a restaurant I would recommend based on...
