Paid $200 for four salads and four drinks. Experience was just ok. Not at all impressive.
The salads were small. The pear avocado salad was incredibly boring, with barely any avocado or pear, and a near flavorless dressing. The steak on the steak salads was good. Our beers were chilled, but far from cold.
The server didn't write down our order, which is always anxiety inducing. He got our order right (phew!) but didn't remember who got what, which created an unecessary awkward moment when food and drink was served, as it created an expectation that we all knew what everyone ordered, which we didn't. Writing orders down and noting seat position is the only way a restaurant that respesents itself as Zack's does should be doing it.
On multiple occasions servers and bus people tried to take our plates away while we were still eating. No less than three time we had to explain that we were were we in fact not done eat the food still on our plates. We weren't there for all that long, but were made feel rushed because of this.
The music was incredibly loud and there was a speaker aimed directly a our table. We asked if it could be turned down even slightly and the waiter said he could not do that in a way that made it clear this is a common request. Definitely not an oak room vibe.
The bathrooms were clean but showed sign of wear, with the sink support being heavily rusted and a broken towel dispenser sitting on a wet toilet top. Oddly the light in the little bathroom hallway was off while we were there, which created a disorienting situation for every guest in our party when we went to use the bathroom. I feel bad for the table in front of the bathroom as it is so close it was impossible to walk past it without brushing against the dinners sitting there.
Haven't been in 10 years or so, and based on my recent experience I would not return or recommend others to visit. A shadow of it's former self. Certainly not worth my...
Read moreUsed to be my favorite place in all of Hoboken, after tonight that’s no more. I’ve been coming here almost monthly for the past six years, but I don’t think I’ve ever been treated as poorly as I was tonight. The food is great here but after tonight I am contemplating never going back after the way our server Daniele and the night manager/bartender acted.
We ordered appetizers and entrees and two old fashions. We received two whiskey on the rocks instead. After waiting around for 20 mins for our server to come back around we very politely asked if there was mix up since these didn’t taste like they should. This is when the waitress verbally confronted us that we are making this up and that’s there’s no way their “award winning” bartender could’ve messed it up and kept arguing with us. We asked for them to be remade, which we thought that was the end of it. However a few mins later the bartender/manager (Ashleigh?) came over and started fighting with us that there’s no way it could’ve been wrong - again we’ve had it here 20x+ time before so we simply asked for them to be remade again. We weren’t looking for a comp or anything just to fix the drinks.
We got our newly made drinks and again we thought this was the end of our saga. Once we asked for the check, it came back with a charge for an extra old fashioned because they “already were being nice and not charging us for four”. mind you we took one sip of the drink before getting them remade. Had to call over the manager again (who is also the bartender), she made us wait 10 minutes and then angrily threw our check on the table saying she comped the drinks and stormed off. Again she completely missed the point - we were looking for good service not a free drink. Stupidly left them a nice tip but I guess that’s a small price to pay for a break up - since I’m not coming here again...
Read moreIf you want horrible service with a nasty attitude when you try to resolve an issue privately, then you should waste your money eating here.
I made a reservation at 5:15p on 12/17 for Zack’s and did not realize it was outside. When I called at 5:38p to ask about the reservation they told me they were booked for inside and told me we would have to sit outside. It was 38° outside, so I told them this was just not possible. Well, the hostess canceled it on their end and then I was charged $60 for not canceling with 24 hours notice by Resy.
When I called Zack’s to get clarification on this because the reservation itself was made with less than 24 hours notice… the person on the phone “yeah well it was canceled in less than 24 hours” I said “Correct, but I made the reservation today at 5:15p and called you within 20 min and then it was canceled by your hostess, because it’s 38°.”
The lady I spoke to on the phone then put me on hold. Then another lady told me there was nothing that Zack’s could do and talk to Resy, that Resy would need to refund me. I spoke with Resy and they said “No, Zack’s has to refund you, they can fill out a refund form and you can send it to us or you can cc, them on an email to us.”
I had to call Zach’s 3 different times, email them twice, and then message them on Instagram before someone finally got back to me- 5 days later. Not to mention their reply was extremely nasty and passive aggressive because they did not like the fact I called their policy “egregious” and suggested that they not allow same day bookings.
Your cancelation does not explicitly state- same day bookings fall under the 24 hour cancel policy and it should be much clearer when making reservations that they are outside. I will never ever eat at your...
