Once I saw the amazing pictures of the huge desserts here I just had to go! I had already picked out what we were going to have for dinner because I looked on the menu online. Unfortunately, they didn’t update the online menu so some of the items were no longer on the menu. A good idea for the restaurant is to keep their menu online current. For appetizers we had the spinach and cheese stuffed bread and the mushroom rice balls. The spinach and cheese stuffed bread was out of this world good! The mushroom rice balls weren’t good at all! They were hard as a rock, and there was like a disgusting cheap tasting cheese wiz sauce surrounding it. For entrees we had the burnt lasagna edges and spinach spaghetti is pesto sauce. The burnt lasagna edges was DELICIOUS! It was so unique, and tasted nothing like lasagna. The cheese and the mushrooms they used gave it an incredible flavor! Unfortunately, the cheesy bread it came with was hard as a rock because it was burnt to crisp! The spinach spaghetti in a pesto sauce was good, but no were near as good as the burn lasagna edges dish! For dessert I ordered the cookie in a skillet. The waiter told me it was suppose to be a huge chocolate chip cookie. The only problem is there was no chocolate chips! When I dug into the cookie it was very mushy, and it looked like it wasn’t cooked to the right temperature. I called another waiter over, and he said that’s how it’s suppose to look. I also asked where are the chocolate chips? This waiter told me it was a peanut butter cookie, and wasn’t suppose to have chocolate chips. Overall the taste was still good. However, it would of been fantastic if it actually had chocolate chips in it, and it was cooked a little more. I’d love to come often to dine her, but the menu as of now is too limited. Definitely, add a few more appetizers, and add at least two more pasta dishes, a filet mignon or a strip steak, and another seafood dish to keep regulars. Another thing this restaurant needs is air conditioning! Last Sunday it was boiling HOT inside, and we were sweating profusely! I wouldn’t dine here if it’s over 70 degrees out unless they install an air conditioning system! Overall, Antique Bar & Bakery is a really unique place and most of the dishes were really good! I highly recommend...
Read moreI really really wanted to like this place but it was a bit of a letdown. If you do come here, it's for the atmosphere and scenes inside. Beautiful antique lamps, very dramatic lighting, an open kitchen with coal oven (you can see it from the table), and lots of curiosities and art to stare at. Came here for a going away dinner for a friend.
Menu is fashioned like a film script, which is kitschy but made it tricky to read. Our server came to our table quickly and gave us a very charming introduction to herself and the restaurant, took our drink orders, ... and then promptly vanished for the rest of the night. Normally I wouldn't care, but Antique asks you to order your next course as you finish your current one (e.g. you can't order your entree until your appetizer is on the table), so I would appreciate a consistent server to ensure nothing is forgotten (indeed, our replacement server thought we were expecting dessert when we were still working on our appetizers). Our replacement server was nice but not very attentive. We only managed one round of drinks - by the time he asked if we wanted a second, we were basically ready for the bill. Our entrees also took a long time to show, much longer than our entrees.
The food is good but not outstanding. My 1/2 chicken was a little overcooked but still very flavorful. The "fries Jenga" I ordered as my side was fine but nothing incredible. My friend's burger (indicated in the menu as very noteworthy) was very overcooked and dry. My other two friends ordered pasta entrees which they said were good but again, nothing outstanding. Given the prices I would have expected a more gratifying experience with the good.
The drinks (cocktails) were very watered down as other reviewers have noticed. I would not order them. Stick to a glass of wine or beer.
Overall not a bad experience but disappointing given the restaurant's charter and premise. If the prices were a bit lower I would probably recommend this place to someone wanting a really "sceney" dinner or Instagram fodder, but the food and service just aren't serious enough to justify a...
Read moreUpdated 2/10/24: Ignore my previous review, everything about our experience tonight underlines that my first impression was the correct one. Places like this seem to exist under the assumption that you, the customer, are lucky to be eating there.
The staff here does not seem to understand they are in the hospitality business. The service tonight alternated between outright rude to non-existent. For the money being charged, there is no reason we should be rushed out of there in under an hour. It probably would have been under 30 minutes if our server had not decided to actively ignore us for most of the time.
Despite the food being fine, we will not being going back. There are no shortage of places in town where you can find better food and service. In my opinion, if you're looking for a great time, look somewhere else.
My first experience here was right after it opened, and it left such a bad taste in my mouth, I'd vowed never to go back. This past Friday night my wife convinced me to give it another shot. The restaurant was slammed but we managed to grab twos seats at the end of the bar. We waited quite a while for service, long enough for my wife to ask if we should just leave. I'm glad we didn't. Our server Metti (sorry if I'm misspelling your name!) made all the difference on this visit to Antique Bakery. He was warm, outgoing, and incredibly helpful. From the cocktails, to the wine, to the food - he made sure everything came our perfectly.
I highly recommend the artichoke salad and the linguini and clam sauce, they definitely don't skimp on the clams. The meatball app is huge, and pretty good (but not as good my mother's, but Italian sons are all biased). Prices are kind of crazy, especially the steaks and whole fish. The wine by the bottle list is also crazy expensive for what's on offer, but given this is Hoboken's trendiest restaurant, who can be surprised. All said, we had a great time and will definitely be back thanks to the wonderful service we received. Way to...
