This is our favorite place for date night when we are in Hochatown. I enjoy dining here on Friday nights as it is nowhere near as busy as it is on Saturday evening when they have live music, is super crowded and loud for those who are sensitive about those things. If you go to listen to live music you may just order appetizers to share. If you do multiple courses or want a more formal dining experience, I would stick with Friday evening or another weekday evening. You will also want to order multiple courses as you complete them. Order appetizers first, finish them and order the second course, for example. The last time we dined here, we ordered everything at the same time and just about everything arrived at the same time and it was a little overwhelming. It may be helpful to ask your server how the food timing is that night to determine your plan of "attack."
The wine list is small but more than adequate. They also have a nice beer list with local beers included. Hey! Back in the day, you had to purchase your wine outside of the restaurant at maybe Girls Gone Wine or local liquor store and bring to the restaurant before the laws changed! Pretty crazy to think about now.
We order the southwest eggrolls and the sauteed mushrooms. Man! The appetizer game here is very strong. I suggest the Sicilian Nachos too but we did not order them this time. The eggrolls are delicious and have a very nice cilantro dipping sauce. The creamy sauteed mushrooms; I am telling you, that sauce is to die for. We enjoy splitting the 8 ounce filet and we got the blue cheese and port wine glaze. It was served with sauteed spinach and lovely skin in mashed potatoes.
The star of the show for this meal was the wedge salad. It was absolutely incredible and I enjoyed the fried onion strings that gave some added crunch. It was the only item that we completely finished and we brought the rest of what was left back with us. I will be featuring the leftover steak, sauteed mushrooms, and sauteed spinach in a nice mushroom pasta dish for dinner this evening. I will be adding the leftover prime rib (from nearby Mountain Man Meat Market by the way) to the mix with the leftover jus to the pasta sauce. How could that be bad? Anyway, I digress.
I think it is important to note some of the other dishes that we have enjoyed during prior trips to Abendigo's. We enjoy the ribeyes, the Crispy Salmon (divine!), Chicken Madeira, Brisket Tacos, Pasta Louisiana and Truffle Fries. I enjoy all of the sides but from what I remember the Truffle Gouda Macaroni and Cheese was pretty special.
Our server Madison was so sweet, attentive and very efficient. I would ask for her again for sure. We have almost always had exceptional service here. The only time it was not stellar was when we were with a very large group on a Saturday night when live music was playing. That is why I made the recommendation above about keeping your dining experience more casual and just order appys to share and enjoy the music and the people watching.
Abendigo's does really nice homemade dessert and the best coffee. The owner has travelled extensively to research his coffee setup and it does not disappoint.
It was chilly out while we were there and the heaters and wind walls were out in full force and it looked so cozy out there. We dined inside near the bar. It is our favorite area to sit in.
Do not sleep on the gift shop located in the front room of the restaurant. I have gone a bit crazy in that gift shop buying Christmas gifts after that extra glass of wine. Oopsie! The items and displays are carefully curated and you are sure to find a thing or two or three to take home with you.
Bottom line.....WE LOVE ABENDIGOS and will return...
Read moreI'll start with we had six adults and four kids. We had reservations made several days in advance. It was 45 degrees, and they seated outside in the covered patio area. It had three upright propane heaters. One next to us ran out of propane. After restarting the heater, it soon ran out again. We later learned that the propane shipment was late. Moving to our waitress encounter. We all realize that these people do not have an easy job, and we respect them for the job they do. However, they still deal with the public, and they should greet each customer appropriately. We could quickly tell that the waitress was not having a good day. We do not believe this experience was the norm for her. She took our drink orders and brought them. She spilled tea on the picnic table they seated us at, that ran through the spaces of the table and onto my daughter. She turned and left. Hey, accidents do happen. However, it is the norm to bring a cloth to dry the customer off and clean the table. Upon her return, we ask for a cloth. She brought a roll of paper towels. We asked her for a wet cloth to clean the sticky tea from the table. She enrolled about 3 or 4 sheets, stuck them down in the water pitcher, and wiped the table. We were then asked if we would like any appetizers, and she did suggest some of the favorites. While contemplating what we wanted, she left, only to return a good bit later to take our order. A reasonable amount of time passed, and our food arrived. The food ranged from steaks, fish, chicken, and brisket tacos. It was all delicious and plentiful. I did ask for my coffee again, and she replied that she didn't hear my order. Hey, it happens. Upon paying out, we did ask to speak with the manager. He was very polite and also the one that came and tried to light the heater. We explained our encounter, and under the circumstances, we felt the predetermined tip was extreme for the experience. He did apologize and waved the tip. Was this the norm for this establishment? I would say no. We have dined there before. However, I feel that when I go out to dinner and pay those prices, I shouldn't be seated at a picnic table, in under an outdoor pavilion wrapped in plastic unless it was by my choice, treated somewhat disrespectful, and freeze the...
Read moreWhat a meal. We were in town for a quick weekend and decided to dine at Abendigo's- so happy we did! The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was amazing. Shout out to our waiter, Trystin! He was absolutely incredible and took extremely good care of us! He was attentive, polite, and friendly! He made sure our drinks were never empty and went above and beyond to make our experience amazing!
We had the fried calamari as an appetizer, and it came out piping hot! It was also very meaty, which was pleasant. The sauce it came with was delicious, it was creamy with a bit of a kick to it! It was also a very large portion, probably enough for 4!
We also got the wedge salad to share, and it was flavorful and refreshing. I was wishing there were more tomatoes, but it wasn't anything that made the dish less- they were not stingy with toppings and it made for a very delicious salad!
I ordered the salmon and my partner ordered the full rack of ribs!
The ribs were fall off the bone tender, moist, and extremely flavorful. His came with beans and potato salad, which were both great compliments to the meat!
My salmon was crispy on the outside and flaky tender on the inside! The lemon cream sauce it came with was absolutely divine and made a wonderful topper to the brocollini and roasted potatoes that came with my meal as well!
For drinks, they had a large variety of beer and wine, and I was pleasantly surprised that there were more non-alcoholic drink options than just water, tea, and soda! I ordered the Pineapple Breeze, which is a non-alcoholic pineapple juice and coconut cream drink. It was extremely refreshing!
I recommend making a reservation for this place, as it was extremely busy! Making a reservation was easy and it made getting in an absolute breeze!
There is also a nice gift shop to browse while you're waiting. There was some nice stuff there, definitely worth taking a...
