I came here for lunch:first time. The food is great, very thoughtful menu! I got a chance to meet the owner and hes very inspiring! I purposely ordered 2 different kinds of dishes to get a feel of the place; Both dishes were superb, especially for the price point. You can tell the chef really cares about your dining experience… hes also very personable…And I love that its black owned and local, the chef makes you feel like family!! Cons: so i didnt care for the bartender..he made me very uncomfortable… the place was empty when i came so i sat at the bar, but i caught him randomly staring at me/my cleavage when i looked his way which made it very very awkward. He was flirty and asked a bunch of intrusive questions in a forced socializing way; im all for small talk but when you see the customer isnt trying to engage you need to back off… i kept trying to look at the projector or my phone but he just kept talking to me…. I felt a way being hit on by a man whos fly was open? I think maybe they need to implement a dress code; aprons, etc…js have the employees wear distinctive clothing because it was hard to distinguish who works there and what they do… I really truly enjoyed the cuisine but came away feeling like i need to watch what i wear when i go here. I wont ever sit at the bar again alone for sure; in hindsight i should have just gotten a table because it really ruined the experience because the food is so great. I dont want to feel objectified or sexualized over lunch. After all Its 90 degrees in s florida! This just may be a place i order togo from now on, or at least go with friends...
Read moreMy partner and I were excited to check this place out for two reasons: first, because we remember the chef from being on Chopped and we are huge fans of the show; and second because we kept being told how good the food was. Short rib appetizer was meh.. it was tender and fell off the bone, but lacked really any flavor. The pickled veg on the side was good though. Got the jerk chicken penne, as I love Caribbean and was hopeful, but it tasted like one of those steam in the bag microwave dinners I used to eat in college that you find in the freezer section at Publix. My partner really enjoyed the beef kebab with the rice. His plate had a great presentation.
The service was absolutely terrible. Not sure if she was new or at least new to serving; I’m typically pretty forgiving, and I always tip at least 20% even when the service sucks. If we needed something like our water refilled we had to flag her down like an incoming plane on the tarmac because she just stood and talked to the bartender most of the time.
Atmosphere was interesting. Tons of tables done up real nice like a fine dining establishment but we were one of two parties there. If you’re sober and ask for soda be ready to be given a lukewarm can of cola and no cup of ice. Very bizarre. Especially when you ask for a cup of ice and she stares at you like a deer in the headlights and just say forget it.
Heard that brunch is a better experience but not sure I’ll be back...
Read moreI dined at the restaurant Saturday, March 15th. This was one of my worst dining experiences in years. Service was extremely slow. The server failed to listen when we requested cancellation of one appetizer to be replaced by another. We ended up getting both appetizers. The humus was good. The humus was probably the best part of the dining experience. Regarding the slow service; I saw another diners leave due to the slow service. They were seated but the server never took their drink orders. I order the "beef" Kebab. I have no idea what type of "beef" it was but it was the toughest, fattiest piece of meat I've ever had. Taking a bite of the "meat", I found either bone or gristle and was lucky I didn't crack a tooth. I stopped eating after that. I also inquired if the restaurant had steak sauce. No. The server was so clueless, he didn't ask if anything was wrong with my meal. The server failed to check on the table. Request drink refills never materialized. No one in my party enjoyed their food. The restaurant decor is nice. Based on the menu and decor, I was expecting a nice dining experience, unfortunately that wasn't the case. I do not recommend this restaurant. There are too many excellent restaurants in the area to...
