When searching for a lunch destination while traveling through Bham, we noticed the Little Donkey menu was not just typical Mexican fare and were intrigued by some of the options. When we arrived, parking was easy, and we were seated immediately. We ordered the pick two salsas as an appetizer, and liked the verde a lot. The habanero was sweet and had a thick consistency that neither of us loved. We also didn't care for the thickness of the chips and the lack of salt (there was no salt or pepper on the table). We both ordered the fried chicken with black beans and rice. The fried chicken didn't have much flavor, but the vinegar that accompanied it helped a lot. The chicken and rice were perfectly cooked, but the black beans were bland. We liked the pickled veggies, but one of the peppers in my friend's portion was so hot that he had tears running down his face for almost 15 minutes. It was so hot that he couldn't eat the rest of his meal, so be careful! Our waitress was very good and attentive. You pay on a handheld machine with the waiter or waitress standing over you while you tip, which we found to be uncomfortable. Overall, we were satisfied, but wish the food had been seasoned better.

We are staying at the hotel right down the road so it was nice and convenient to walk over in minutes for food, so from the curb appeal, to the decor inside of the restaurants, to our great waitress,Calli, who was so friendly and answered all our questions with knowledge of their food options, we started with a variety of salsas and chips, then got fajitas for two with Shimp and Steak. With that being said, we have to say everything was so tasty, tender, plentiful but not to much, just the right portion for two people. We had 2 different flavored Margaritas, they were just right to end our delicious meal! We are leaving the area but will Highly Recommend this restaurant to other people coming into this area in the future. We'd live to come back for sure!! Be sure to check this one out, you won't be disappointed!

Nice local Mexican/taco bar chain! No wait for a table for 2 just shy of 6pm on a Friday night, but was busy and filling up fast. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and food was ready amazingly quickly--probably had everything within 10 minutes. Note that they do not provide complimentary chips & salsa. Ordered a Frozen Bushwacker cocktail (Happy Hour made it half-price 4-6, Mon-Fri), queso dip, Smoked Pork Burrito Bowl, and La Cucina w/ BBQ Pork and El Pastor tacos. The cocktail was excellent, tasting like Ovaltine mixed with coconut creme and a hint of coffee. Queso was great and very cheesy, though could have used some more chile flavor. Burrito bowl and tacos were solid, though no flavors really popped. Rice and beans that came with the tacos were pretty standard, fine quality but nothing exciting.

I would love to give this restaurant a solid 4-star rating, but last night was a let down.

First, let me compliment the bartender on duty. Since we had to wait 30 minutes for our table, we decided to sit at the bar. She was so friendly and awesome. She also made a very tasty Manhattan. She was very attentive and we left her our customary 20% or more tip. Her nose ring and tattoos were also very cool.

That's where the compliments end. Our server obviously did not want to be there. She lacked any enthusiasm. It was reminiscent of a surly teenager who doesn't want to be in the backseat of the car on the family vacation.

After we (4 people) ordered, our food was brought to us in pieces. I received my plate a full 2 minutes before anyone else. Since it is rude to begin eating before others, by the time the others food came, mine was not warm. In fact, I don't think it was that warm when they brought it out.

We both had the fried chicken and we were disappointed. It was still good, but not as crunchy or moist as we are used to at the Little Donkey. My husband wondered if it had been sitting under the heat lamp for too long.

Our server disappeared and as we were wanting extra napkins, we sat for SEVERAL MINUTES (10+) without seeing her. My husband finally got up and walked over to a basket and fished out our napkins.

She never came back to ask us how our food tasted, if we needed additional drinks, or any extra napkins. In fact, I finally got up and went to the friendly young gentleman at the front and asked for a to-go box.

With the plethora of great restaurants in Bham, it will be awhile before we make the rounds back to the Little Donkey. I hope it improves greatly before...

I have been here twice. The first time I found a chicken bone in my taco. Good thing I take small bites. Last weekend on Sunday, 9/29, we went as a family and after clearly being next to be seated, the hostess asked the couple behind me how many. They were polite and said they're next pointing to me. Still wondering why I was initially ignored. We had a party of 5 and needed a highchair for my niece. The hostess took us to a table of 4 and said we could add a seat at the end for the 5th and could position the highchair somehow next to the end chair to make us all fit at a table of 4. My dad said this is not going to work so we walked back to the hostess stand where she did not follow us. No one was there to speak about suggestions or ways to solve the issue and we were even waiting on her to say let's see what we can do. She vanished! We walked needless to say and went elsewhere. I won't be back. The bone I got over and I gave it a second try but the complete incompetence of the hostess has ended it. She first wanted to deal with the small party of two before me who was clearly waiting first and then her ridiculous suggestion on how to squeeze us at a table of 4, left us hanging when it was not going to work, zero attempt to try at all... Was it the baby? Was it the party of 5? What was she not wanting to deal with? To management/ownership find better people to be the first face you see at your restaurant. Rude!! Ridiculous!! Inconsiderate!! And so on!!!!! Zero stars, better places in the area to spend your money and time while being treated...

We had been wanting to try it here and looked to see what time they closed because we had been to a haunted house and got out later than we expected. It said they were open until 10:30 so we get there at 9:55. The hostess was very nice and seated our party of 4. The server then comes to our table and said “well y’all just barely made it!” and proceeded to get our drink orders. As she’s getting our drinks we question if it was 10:00 or 10:30 they close so when she comes back we ask her what time they close and she said 10:00 and we look at each other and then she said I mean 10:30 (I guess she realized we KNEW it was 10:30). So she said do y’all know what you want? And we asked for just a minute to look at the menu and said because we’ve never been here before. So she then says well I’ll just tell you the quicker you get your order in the better chance of you getting what you want and walked off. We just all looked at each other wondering what that meant?? So we just walked out. I won’t give my business to someone making us feel like a burden for even being there! My family is in the restaurant business and I work for them sometimes and even if we have someone walk in right at closing time or even a little after if we still have customers we serve them just as friendly as we would if they got there at opening time! Very rude! And by the way we went to bartaco and got the BEST service. All very friendly and helpful since we had never eat there before either. Highly...
