Was very excited to try this spot after living in the neighborhood for awhile and wanting to dine here for a few years. The setting is really nice. There’s very few restaurants/cafes that are so close to the beach and ocean that are more casual-dining like Barefoot. The atmosphere is quality- they have plenty of tables (lots of options) and shaded/cooler opportunities. It’s very convenient to have such a casual but aesthetic dining option when you’re still in your swimsuit from surfing OR if you just want all really good breakfast/lunch option when in the area with your family. The staff was SO friendly and kind. Very accommodating. I witnessed them interact with a really frustrating and needy customer in the most well-mannered, respectful, and considerate way. I really appreciate the added touch they demonstrate by having the big community water dispensers have fruit in them! I LOVE when establishments do this. It adds a bit of flavor to the water and just looks aesthetically pleasing. In this regard, I also appreciate when restaurants include the flower and pineapple slice on the plate, which Barefoot does as well! There actually was a problem with my order though- which is unfortunate because everything else about this was a nice experience. I ordered avocado toast- and they informed me beforehand that they were out of a few of the ingredients for this meal (which is fine but surprising it was like this for more than one ingredient). I also asked for a modification which didn’t happen when I picked up my order. Obviously none of these were a big deal, just frustrating that so many little things happened. My friend ordered an iced almond milk latte and the eggs benedict. Everything came out great with their order and they really enjoyed it. There is a Biki station five feet from the establishment which is very convenient. Tourists are likely walking from Waikiki, but if you are driving parking may be “problematic.” The closest parking is probably the meters along Kalakaua (which is very inexpensive, but just hard to get a spot sometimes). Free parking is usually available at the parking lot(s) for Kapiolani Park/Waikiki Shell.

Barefoot Café – 4 Stars 📍Waikiki, HI Imagine starting your day with a fresh breakfast, ocean breeze, and waves crashing just steps away. That’s exactly the vibe at Barefoot Café—a sunny, chill spot that feels like a happy place for in-love couples, excited friend groups, and solo wanderers alike. Most of the seating is shaded, and it’s all first-come, first-served with a casual “order when you’re ready” setup. No fuss, no stress—just beachy brunch energy. The staff is super friendly and patient, even taking time to offer solid recommendations. Now let’s talk food— ✔️ I had the breakfast sandwich with my egg fried hard (because that’s how I feel most at home), and it was chef’s kiss. ✔️ The açaí bowl? Absolute heaven. Fresh fruit, perfect texture, and it genuinely blessed my soul. ✔️ I washed it all down with a pineapple juice and caught surfers doing their thing in the background. Honestly, it felt like a scene out of a travel dream. So why not 5 stars? Okay, let me be real with y’all… the birds. 😩 They are bold and not afraid to test your patience. I knew I signed up for outdoor seating, but the flocking was intense—like I had to eat fast before they tried to join me at the table. A little distracting, but nothing that would keep me from coming back. Pro tip: Don’t let the construction tarps fool you—this gem is open! Just walk around and find the entrance. Totally worth it. Spent a little over $40 for my full spread and left full and happy. 📱Follow me on TikTok for more food finds, reviews, and videos: @kaychap10 Trust me—you don’t want to miss this stop while in Waikiki!

Should have listened to the reviews - it’s a cute spot for lunch, however the wait is incredibly long. We saw a decent size line and figured we would try it out - how long could it possibly be? I think we waited a half hour to order with less than 15 people in front of us. It was then 1 pm. We got our drinks SO fast - root beer float (which was incredible) and the iced tea. There were also signs saying to be patient with the wait time due to labor shortages and be patient with staff if they are out of ingredients. However our food didn’t come until past 1:40. We ordered the vegan poke bowl and I asked for creamy sriracha but they forgot, along with the fries with Parmesan. I will admit mine was pretty good. My boyfriend ordered the Hawaiian BBQ chicken and it was just alright. He also ordered the garlic fries and they were so gross- I don’t know what they did but they were the total opposite of my fries, extremely greasy and soggy. It almost felt like his were sitting for a while. Wanted to try dessert but really did not want to get online again. I would only come here on a whim and if you aren’t pressed for time (I understand the labor shortage, but god it was a really long time). Did not take off a star for the labor shortage, just the quality of the food. Don’t expect much, just something decent with a wonderful view!

This place was our favorite place when we visited Oahu. Unfortunately, we only found it on our last day! The price for food was about the same as most other places on the island for breakfast, but the portions were fairly generous. We had French toast and eggs Benedict. The French toast was fantastic and the eggs Benedict was also quite good. We would have preferred the English muffin be toasted, but otherwise no complaints. Overall we would rate the food four stars (we are picky), but it was the best breakfast we had had on the island. We ended up going back for dinner since we enjoyed it so much. I had the steak and shrimp as pictured. The rice was a bit dry and the shrimp were not peeled (which I prefer), but the steak and shrimp were both seasoned very nicely and tasted great. My wife had the poke bowl which was also quite good. The dole whip was the best we've had. As far as the ambiance, the place is right on the beach and the views are lovely. We didn't stay late enough to experience any live music. From what I understand they have live music every night. Overall we would rate this place five stars. The food is quite good despite not being perfect, and it is beautifully displayed on the plate. We enjoyed the open air with ocean views. We would definitely recommend this place.

my visit here was so disappointing that I feel compelled to share. I ordered garlic fries, expecting what you normally expect from an order of Fries but what I received was utterly inedible - they were burnt to a crisp! I can’t fathom how a cafe can mess up something as simple as fries. My first bite was like gnawing on a charcoal dipped in regret. The experience didn’t improve with the acai bowl. Surprisingly, it was served in a glass instead of a bowl which I found quite odd. They said they were out of ‘bowls’ so were serving in a glass!? SoI decided to return it and asked for a refund. The staff took the glass back and promised the refund would materialize with the return of manager Randy, a mythical creature who apparently communicates via carrier pigeon. They even provided his number, as useful as offering a life raft on the Titanic. My calls and texts to Randy went the way of my appetite – straight into the void. It’s disheartening and unprofessional to see a business handle customer concerns in such a manner. I regret to say that I cannot recommend this cafe to anyone!! Stay away as far as possible!

I went here the very first day. We were able to find a table around 5:00pm, the band plays @ 5:30pm. I got a quesadilla, it was good! I shared the pineapple smoothie in the pineapple. Best one I've ever had!! I also came here the last day before I left Hawaii. I had to wait in line for 35 min cause the credit card machine was down, & the manager was trying to be fix it but had a line of people waiting which wasn't fair. They did let people in line know that the machine was down & to pay in cash. Except, we waited, & waited, & waited! When I was able to get food, I got the fish sandwich which happened to be a swordfish steak & a Sunrise Smoothie-strawberry, mango, w/ lemon juice. Both were fantastic!! There was no seating when we got there, but my fiance was able to kindly ask a gentleman that was sitting by himself if I could share the table w/ him since I had to put my plate somewhere. The manager really shouldn't have been trying to fix the credit card machine in between guests. I thought that was really unfair to everybody waiting in line!
